I got the x5 and i am disappointed. Anyone have any suggestions for it's build? It just seems sad. Maybe I am missing something.

Ironically, the default build is optimal.

XL300, SRM6's and 3 tons of missiles. Keeping the lasers and everything else as is.

Maybe use the missiles slots for streaks and rest just medium lasers.

Streaks are too conditional now, and do too little damage. SRM4 or 6 is a better choice currently.

<aside> love the YouTube vids.

Not sure how the weigth works out, but if you can get the srm6's and ml's and still keep a good speed then yeah it's better. I was thinking the streaks as repellents against light mechs that might want to duel you.

Thanks B).

I like streaks a bit more then srm6. I might lack skill, but I find it very difficult to land all the salvos where I want them and still dance around avoiding hits. With SSRM I can just shoot and immediately make a sharp turn.

Anyway, it's one of my favorite builds.

I pulled the missiles and put 4 Pulse Med laser in it. Its a blast to please , just glue down the ´w´ keys and do straffing runs.

You could do that in pretty much any non-3C Cicada. Other than the c-bills boost, I don't see the benefit of getting the mech in the first place.

This is a good build for the Cicada 3M, but it's a waste of the X-5.

Listen to Sedant - that's the build I use too.

X5 stock build is fine, L2P.

I didn't have a 8.0 K/D ratio with it through magic.

Sad? I got 5 kills in my first drop with it. Of all my Mechs it has the 2nd best kill/death ratio of 2.83 to 1. Mine is mostly stock. I found it ran a little hot so I took out 1 ton of SRM ammo and put in an extra DHS.

I personally think it is very powerful, my average is 685 xp a match and 2 to 1 k/d and I dont consider myself a great player. I run a high ping so ditched the SRMs for Streaks (2T ammo) and 12 DHS.

the x-5 is by far the best assault mech killer in the game ( that is under 50 tons)

get 4 mediums
2 srms 6
3 srm ammo
double heat sinks
both ferro armor and endo skelly and an xl 300 engine.
get 2 extra heat sinks in the engine
and do your best to max out the rest in armor

then go around rear armor coring mechs

you do 38 alphas in rapid succession enough to core most heavy mechs in two volleys and most assult mechs in 3 volleys

the x-5 is one of the few hero / founder mechs that are actually worth anything.
it (thank god) has no ballistic slots .

if you want to fight light mechs well then switch out the srms for streaks , replace the 3 srm ammo with 2 streak ammo and throw on extra armor and heat sinks ( or get a bigger engine).

The best part about streaks is that they allow you to aim your lasers accurately without having to worry about how to hit with the streaks. As soon as you go over to SRM's, you have to lead the target and all that, which fowls your ML aim. It was actually easier to hit with both of them before HSR was implemented: you could use the lasers to determine the lead length for the SRM's.

I went with two SRM4 and 4medium lasers, top speed at 133 (speed tweak of course). The X5 is not good for fighting lighter mechs so don't try, use it as a hit and run platform and hit larger mechs in the back. I have great success doing that with it and poor success trying to battle ravens and jenners.

4x ML, 2 SRM 6, backstabber :P = WIN! Don't try and go after Jenners and Ravens as they will eat you alive, their torso twist is far better

That's pretty much what I found. I bought it, took it for a spin as-is, got a kill and a couple victories, and then put it on the shelf of "I'll get back to it, but that felt solid"

It's a heavy Light, not a Medium. Don't try and fight like a Medium, fight like an extra-big Raven.

Not really, they are more useful than SRM2s, those are a real joke. Getting locked out isn't that huge of a deal really,

If you have an ECM mech around, hang with it.
