I think we should just forget about who attacked who. I made a mistake, others have made mistakes, we all make mistakes.

This thread isn't being locked, though. I contacted the Support Team regarding the topic of this media article and paying for Merc Coprs; I am asking to see if they plan on commenting or making some kind of feedback thread.

lol kinda like "Um guys, the players saw the article. There are pitchforks and torches at the ready"

Except it is supposed to be free to play.

Team Fortress 2 and League of Legends are both examples of highly successful F2P games that offer cosmetics for money, and ALL of the gameplay to EVERYONE. The truth is PGI is slowly but surely selling out the founders.

You all are getting your panties in a bunch.

What they described already works as it does now. Pay Premium time to get Premium bonuses. The only difference is there is an incentive to do more with those bonuses to get more bonuses.

That isn't pay to win, its pay to play. There is still a free game, meaning you click launch and shoot things. The competitive players will actually have to buy into the game to compete. Every other MMO is like this.

Everquest 2 for example does something worse. F2P characters cannot used Legendary or Fabled Gear. You CANNOT survive in level 90+ dungeons without such gear. Meaning no groups, no raiding unless you become a gold member. That would be akin to MWO requiring you to be premium members to use the mechlab, or use Trial Mechs only.

Simply said, there is a free portion of the game (Faction warfare and Lone Wolves), and pay to play Merc Corps. You probably won't even play against most paying players as a free player so there's no big deal here.

We really need more information about the differences of being in a Merc Corp instead of just Faction warfare. I'd expect there is content you'd get in being in a Merc Corps, which would not be the same as now with premium time since that's just more CBills and EXP and not a question of differing content.

I fail to see how adding a paid subscription model to the game is in the "p2w" argument. Am I missing something? You're paying $10 per month to play the game...

For the record, I have no problem with their current hero mechs (I even have a couple) or other premium content. But charging a monthly fee is distinctly non free-to-play.

I am guessing it will be a max of 4 to make a lance for House aligned players as they have talked about organizing by lance recently. I am further guessing that those aligned with the "Lone Wolf" faction will either not be able to group or have more limited options (like 2 or 3 group cap).

More like:
PGI: We're making a AAA F2P mechwarrior game! We plan on having the core game be community warfare, but we need you guys to back us.
Community: Ok, but don't make it P2W, don't put in 3rd person, and don't put in coolant flushes. We didn't like that about MW4
PGI: Deal
Community: Here's $30/60/120
PGI: Thanks guys

MONTHS LATER
PGI, I know we don't have CW, or DX11, or a tutorial, or any of the other things AAA titles have, but here's some coolant flush for MC, we're working on 3rd person, and community warfare is gonna cost extra for the good parts.
Community: Hey, that wasn't the deal
PGI: I know, but the truth is that was our position at the time.

hey hey hey, look for a silver lining... if things do, indeed, go the way suggested... then all the Mercs without Corps can just go to FRR and kick those Clanners in the teeth! :)

do you expect that merc corps will be fighting only other merc corps with 12 players each ? or have the complaints of Premades vs pubs not been screamed enough about on these forums.
Not only is it pay to play its pay to farm pubbies and f2p players

An additional reason not to go down the pay-to-play road, especially in 12v12. A merc corps wouldn't need planetary bonuses if they can drop 3 lances an steam roll houses/clans.

Merc Corps will bid for contracts posted by Houses, since mercenaries always get paid more than regular army. Payback comes with those perks, a "subscribed" Merc Corps. gets a small additional XP/C Bill bonus for members participating in the battle. They will never know if they are fighting another Merc Corps or a House group.

Think of the "subscription" as Union dues, get a lot for a little extra money a month.

theyve changed their minds about not letting us fight on storyline worlds? Cause all of the FRR's ARE storyline but like 8 given we cant have players changing the invasion.

WoT does this and they make quite a bit of money.

That said, I'm 100% against it and would never, ever support it. Even if I did use premium time, simply because they are excluding people who pay money for mechs/paint from playing.

Though I seriously doubt they would follow that model, simply because you end up with the worst elements of the community in a critical part of your game.

No. WOT does not do this. They require premium to form a team but anyone can play in that team.

"And then you have the Merc Corps. These are the guilds, these are the clans, these are the guys who come together, band together, fight together and play together and actually want to control as much territory as they can through their actions.

The lone wolf play style is what players currently have in the game today; the NPC factions will be free-to-play; the Merc Corps, on the other hand, will be monetized. "We're looking at possibly charging a one-time setup fee," Ekman said. "This is just to make sure there's not a flood of one-player corps.

We really want people who participate in this to be as engaged as possible. And we'll probably require them to have a premium time account, as a kind of dedication level." That premium time account can be purchased in quantities ranging from daily to monthly to bi-annually, with the 30-day pack costing $10.

This is totally insane.

Like bat-**** insanity.

Some of the corps are hundreds and hundreds of players. You expect them all to pay for premium?

Free to play can thrive by having free players playing with their friends - some of whom pay, and by playing with their friends they play the game more and get more enjoyment out of it. Put barriers to the fun and content for free players, and they will leave, and the paying players will leave after because the free players were a large part of the reason to continue playing.

I don't think IGP/PGI understand how the F2P model is supposed to thrive.
