they abandoned that for elo, it cannot take into account player skills, organized teams, AND be able to match tonnage. It would take 10 minutes to match.

They did Abandon it yes but you even look at the link?

all the rebuttal arguments thus far boil down to "I'm awesome so there". Well I'll see your "I'm awesome" and raise you an Alpha in the back(I can use the leet skill you did to guess where you'll flank because we're not all newbies) from my (insert equally super-fitted Heavy)... guess what? I just blew your arms or side torso out... second shot... oh, your legs almost gone...

No more leet skills arguments please

Can't remember PGI ever said "We promise...", but role warfare is simply nonexistent.

It's been killed off by a combination of elo matchmaking (in that it doesn't account for weight or general make-up) and ECM which was put on both ends of the weight spectrum... then they were used mostly to cover brawler approaches, kill off LRM effectiveness (such that it's a near extinct beast) and made light's into hunter-killer packs of rabid beasts.

The mechs they did try to put in for role warfare (like the Spider) are sub-par for their weight, or the Jager/Catapult which are support mechs both indirect & direct... but their mostly kitted as brawlers or the new gameplay style of snipers. You wait till 12v12 where you'll see light mech companies just rolling competition.
