C'mon, Lights And Mediums, Don't Be Cheap

The battle has been raging somewhere in the middle of the map. I have and the other heavies and assaults have been going toe to toe with the opposition. Our team is winning, and we're closing in for the kill on the remaining heavies.
But then, one of the opposition lights has run off and started to capture our base. Instead of our lights running back to stop our base being captured, they've stood in a circle around the main battle, taking pot shots from the sides at the damaged heavies... It looks to me like they're trying to get in the lucky last shot and claim the kill.
Meanwhile, our base gets captured, and our team loses.
Come one, light and medium pilots. If someone is capping our base, get back there and stop them! You're the only Mechs with enough speed to keep us from losing to a base cap. So bug out and go stop them. Fair enough that you harass the enemy assaults and heavies while the battle is raging. But when the time comes to stop a base cap, don't let us lose the game just because you want to add .01 to your K/D - you're better than that!

ALL. THE. DANG. TIME.
I suspect (hope) this will change dramatically when CW starts counting and the final WIN ! is all that will matter.

If we have a good battle going on and some Spider from the other team wants to play Capwarrior, I'm not going to waste 5 minutes of my life chasing him, while my team mates get to fight.
People who don't want to lose by cap should either cap or defend their own base. Me, I'm going to play this game however the hell I want, regardless of what mech I'm in. Don't expect me to do the job you don't want to do.

Pfft ... what did you just fall off of? was it that turnip truck that just went by?
You are also giving the average player some undue credit ... like assuming all of them have this thing called a "brain" and have used it for something more then figuring out how to find **** on the interwebs.

If you pilot a light or fast mech, it IS your JOB to go back and defend the cap. (And it's your teammates' job to make it back to help, if asked to). You don't have to kill what's there, just delay long enough for others to come and help.
But to the OP: Yeah, this happens all the time. What do you expect? People are dumb. The average IQ is only 100. That's really freaking dumb.

OK this one I can get behind. If someone has run off to cap, my team's lights (or fast Mediums) should go back and make it costly to do so.

We know your kind ... there's generally a term for it: Hypocrite.
You don't want others complaining you are not doing the role YOU CHOOSE when you dropped in a mech (remember, you choose the role by picking the mech, not us) ... Yet when you trail a wolf pack to us and we ignore them, you'll QQ up a storm that we are NOT doing our jobs.
So, just remember not to be a hypocrite .. if you don't want to do your Job that is fine, but don't LEECH off the TEAM by hanging around us for Support ... hanging around us for ECM ... expecting us to kill stuff that is chasing you, etc, etc, etc.
You choose ... you either play "single player" off on your own lone wolfing it ... or you play with / for the TEAM. Just don't be a Hypocrite and LEECH off the team, yet not support it.

Yeah, lights are so fast it takes them no time at all to get anywhere, but pugs will pug.
The only real solution is to either 4 man drop and have a fast mover or just take a turbo Cent or turbo Treb and make enemy lights life miserable.

Whenever I am
in one of my fast mechs,
I always go clear the CAP,
or at least die trying.
What I hate
trying to get off the CAP though,
is that D-DC that
managed to get there
unseen...

Ahh, no. This thread still doesn't solve the confusion that results from battle. If you want something to happen in game, then you need voice that action in game. Again, if you don't tell someone to do something, they are most likely going to assume that it is being taken care of by someone else. Its human nature. You as well make this mistake as described in your first post. You assumed that a med or light would head back, and it never happened because you never told a medium or light to head back. Your expectations were not met because you failed to take any action otherwise. Now if you told a med or light (at this point you might want to call them out by name) to do so, then you have at least tried to fulfill those expectations.
