The tears come from those who could have put a toe in the base square just long enough for those heavy and assaults to make it back, after "selflessly sacrificing themselves for the greater good". If they are entertained then there is no need for said tears you speak of right?
You lost me. You're saying that if I just return to base to win the game, then there's no need for said tears?
If that's what you're saying, then you're basically just repeating your earlier point, which I've already addressed. But to reiterate, if there are some light pilots who enjoy defending base in assault matches, that's great. If there are some light pilots who don't, that's great too. The beautiful thing about this game is that everyone gets to play the way they want to.
If you prefer being a lone wolf assault mech pilot who just go after the kills, you can. Sometimes you will lose a match because you were outcapped, but it only takes you 60 seconds to start a new match and get backto what you enjoy. Brawling and killing.
If you prefer working on a team and doing whatever's necessary to win, you can. Just join some kind of mercenary group or fanmade clan, get involved with that community and treat the game like a team sport, if that's the way you like to play.
If you prefer to play this game as a lone wolf mercenary, not caring about anyone but yourself and your own pay-day, you can. And not only is it a possibility, it's actually perfectly in keeping with the setting of the game.
You may begrudge the lost C-bills of a defeat, or being beaten in a game with set rules, but I'm more worried about asking people to play a game in a manner they don't want to. If I want to roleplay in Mechwarrior, I join a roleplaying guild / clan. I don't demand that strangers join me in my roleplaying. If people want to join me, that's great. If they don't, that's fine. I won't start a thread complaining that the world doesn't conform to my expectations.

You're serious aren't you? I would guess, with that attitude, you never played competitive school or organized sports. Oh wait, you would have never made any competitive organized team with that attitude, so your good to go in Pixel town...

I'm not sure what I said to earn an ad hominem argument, but I think it's best if we don't compare e-peens by listing all our athletic credentials. Suffice it to say, I enjoy sports and I enjoy competing.
I would also say that this game offers more variety than, say, basketball. There's many things you can do in this game, many roles to play, and so people tend to have a wider variety of expectations than if they're on a basketball team. People don't tend to join a basketball team and then refuse to play defense. Though I'm assuming that's what you're implying I would do.

That is the 4th group of players btw. Why do you act surprised. You play your way, despite what others may require of you, in a Team game, why can't they do the same. Sounds kinda pot and kettle like...

I'm not sure I understand the hypocrisy here. So you're saying that anarchism is a kind of tyranny, because anarchists are telling people not to tell them what to do? In a way, libertarianism is kind of hypocritical, because by wanting freedom, you're depriving other people of their right to live in a society without freedom, where everyone conforms to a set ideal?
