Not really. This isn't world of warcraft, where you go into a dungeon with a tank, a healer and a damage dealer. In this game, everyone gets to choose what mech they want to play and how they want to use it. Some mechs are more flexible than others, but if you expect everyone in a light mech to take a beating because the rest of the team didn't want to defend, then you're in for a surprise.

You don't want others complaining you are not doing the role YOU CHOOSE when you dropped in a mech (remember, you choose the role by picking the mech, not us) ... Yet when you trail a wolf pack to us and we ignore them, you'll QQ up a storm that we are NOT doing our jobs.
Are you assuming that I'll complain and then calling me a hypocrite for something you imagined I did?

You choose ... you either play "single player" off on your own lone wolfing it ... or you play with / for the TEAM. Just don't be a Hypocrite and LEECH off the team, yet not support it.
I don't ask people to play the game how I want them to. I generally complain very little, and the few times I do complain, I really shouldn't.
Whenever a game expects people to do something out of the kindness of their heart instead of rewarding them, then the game is flawed. That's why games with healers tend to reward the healers for doing their job. Whenever a game expects people to do something dull (like running to the other side of the map and standing on a square) for the benefit of others, the game is flawed.
The assault mode is flawed. Don't blame the players.

This kind of attitude is why most of the people in this game play heavy or assault mechs. And it's killing the variety in the game.

I can't tell if you're agreeing with me, but same here. I honestly don't care about losing by cap, as long as it was a good fight.

If we have a good battle going on and some Spider from the other team wants to play Capwarrior, I'm not going to waste 5 minutes of my life chasing him, while my team mates get to fight.
People who don't want to lose by cap should either cap or defend their own base. Me, I'm going to play this game however the hell I want, regardless of what mech I'm in. Don't expect me to do the job you don't want to do.
Worst post I've ever read

I really think the game needs another game mode that somehow promotes combat instead of "go stand over here far from where anything exciting is happening."

Cool, we have jobs in this game now! If it's a job, then I'm looking at compensation - gyros don't recalibrate themselves ya know? [pops off to look at the job rate sheet]
Hmmm. It looks like defending the cap is somewhere between unpaid intern and volunteer opportunity, while damage/kills/component destruction is the moneymaker.
Wonder if that could be the reason? Well, that and the condescending attitude and superior demeanor of pilots in the bigger weight classes. I'd be a rich man if I had a nickle for every time I got stepped on, and then talked to like I was filth for bringing a light. You want team play? Treat your team like an actual team rather then your servant.

Actually I would more equate it to:
Those who are currently fighting in Heavies and Assaults have "zero" chance to get back. So, unless the Lights and or Mediums Pilots are absolute Newbs, or play like poster #3, it is pretty much up to them to resolve the issue.
But as noted. Many do not want to Win, they just want to Fight, Lose, then Whine in chat about how they had a ****** team.
Lord forbid they would do anything to help prevent a Cap lose though.

That's OK - I have big shoulders. Feel free to blame your lack of strategy and tactics on me.
Realistically its PGIs fault for making a terrible objective system and then rewarding people more for ignoring it. You're just the poor ignorant one that actually thinks what he's doing is "strategic" rather than "trolling".

Whereas everyone in a heavy or assault mech is selflessly sacrificing themselves for the greater good, crying bitter tears for every light mech that dies trying to defend base? Or are they just playing the game in the manner they find most entertaining?

I'm happy to say that there's a third group of players who don't care about winning or losing, but just try to have a good fight and have a good time and let other people play how they want to. Incidentally, that's my approach to all kinds of competition.

If you pilot a light or fast medium, it IS your JOB to go back and defend the cap.
But to the OP: Yeah, this happens all the time. What do you expect? People are dumb. The average IQ is only 100. That's really freaking dumb.
I typically don't RTB because if there is someone capping the base, chances are good that it is a damned Jenner or Raven. And, in a 1v1 situation, my Cicada is going to end up losing. Whether I'm in my 2B w/ 4 Mds and 1 Lrg or my X-5 with 4 Mds and 2 Streaks. I'm out gunned and out meneuvered. So, I stay with my team to prevent them from getting ganked knowing that I'll still have enough speed to get back once we're clear.
