And sure, there's nothing to be gained from running; but then, what do you gain from fighing, or winning, or anything? Its just a game, and if you can't tolerate other people, play a single player one.
Repair isn't in the game, so preserving your mech doesn't give you anything. This game is currently a "Win at all Costs!" scenario. Trying to "preserve your mech" is (usually) just an excuse for stat padding.
Fighting means you do damage and get more c-bills and xp. If you get a kill, you might even give your teammates extra c-bills and xp in the form of assists.
Winning gives you and your teammates significantly more c-bills and xp.
Capping does what winning does, but also gives you (and anyone who helped cap) an even more signficant c-bill and xp bonus
Running (if you're trying to string out the enemies to fight them 1 at a time, or if you're trying to cap) can lead to more of the above three, and I have no issue with it.
Hiding gives you nothing, gives your team nothing, and takes up more of everyone's time. (one exception being conquest hiding to win via points)
In the OP's second post, he mentions that eventually the enemy assaults went and capped to win, so it kinda sounds like he was just staying away and hid while he let them win, which is ********. If the assaults are trudging to your base, then cap their base in the meantime. If they split up so they can both defend and cap, then try to kill whichever one is by itself. If all else fails, and the enemy is about to win via cap, hop into your base and do as much damage as you can till you die. Doing so gives you (and possibly your teammates) a bigger reward.
However, for every person who hides to pad their stats, there is also a person who charges in and dies, then whines about their team without understanding that their team is still trying to win. It's annoying to watch someone hide just to pad their stats, but it's even more annoying to be playing to win while some dead teammate whines at you to give up already.
