In any time whatsoever, where any weapons whatsoever existed over the basic time needed to make it a standard field weapon, variations of said weapon exist. Always. If there is a machinegun, there will be a light machinegun and a heavy machinegun. If there is a gauss rifle, there will be heavy and light variations. This is not rocket science. Someone throws a rock and two other dudes throw a heavier and a smaller rock. Right away.
To bind this to a timeline based solely on the issue how long it took a bunch of mediocre authors to figure that out is complete nonsense. Battletech was born in the cradle of tabletop and rpg games. A metric ton of horribly shortsighted mistakes were made in that time, covered up slightly with errata and additions that stretch things that should have been fixed right away over a fictional timeline. There is no need to carry them on. Any game such as this profits massively from variation and such variation should be deducted from the most basic of logic and common sense instead of dogmatic formula.
On top of that, a computer game makes it comfortable to handle a LOT more variants than a tabletop does and the same logic as above applies. If there is an AC/10 and an AC/20 in any given world (fictional or real), someone will build an AC/15. Someone will also build an AC/1, AC/3, AC/4 and so on. If there is a Large Laser and an Extended Range Large Laser, someone will build a Short Range Range Laser and to make the step from SSRM2 to SSRM6 does not require any genius to figure out, but that might be a real can of worms, considering how SSRM work in MWO and how non-streak SRM are broken and pointless.
TL;DR: Ignore timeline restrictions for all one-up and one-down weight classes of existing weapons. Also add in-betweens.

I'd like to see the canon weapon systems of the late 3050's and 3060s (MRM, LBX/Ultra ACs of all classes, ER Laser, Light/Heavy PPC, SnubNose PPC, Streaks, Light Gauss, Magshot, Rotary and especially Light ACs, Heavy/Light MGs, alternate munitions), but before introducing them, the exsiting weapons should be fixed.
E.g.
LBX: with the current model LBX-2/-5 would be loughable (very long range, few pellets)
Ultra-ACs: cooldown should be identical to standard models. You want to like see a UAC/20 firing every 3 seconds (and the ability for a second shot)?
Streaks: -4/-6 would break the game with the current logic (after increasing (S)SRM damage)
Don't speak of MGs etc...

And I'd like world peace.
I honestly don't know which one is more likely. I'm leaning towards mine.
EDIT:
Not trying to be demeaning, mind you. Just stating a sad fact.

But as for any other weapons, they won't put them in until the corresponding year they came out.

I'm guessing they haven't put them in because they're still working on the basic mechanics.
Getting SRM damage right in the first place precludes, (or at least logically it should), the adding of additional types of SRMs.
I'm not saying it's a bad idea, because I personally want as much content as this game can possibly handle. But they do have other priorities.

Well, I can agree with that. The core weapons needs to be fixed and stabilized FIRST, and I have no objection to that. But once they have the core weapons done for both Clan and Inner Sphere, they should explore this and other different forms of ammo.

Obviously it's not a weapon but I think C3 should be available *now* but I'm not really sure how that could be implemented in-game, AFAIK most of its canonical functionality is basically subsumed into the current targeting system anyway.

C3 is not a weapon as you said, it's equipment. But they are planning on adding it in down the road along with MASC later on in the next coming month or two I believe. As for them skipping a couple of years, that might happen once the game has stabilized for the next year or two sticking with the Clan invasion, and then I could see them skipping from 3052 to 3055. At that point, they could add in the stabilization of the Ultra AC/5 on the Inner Sphere side, and DHS at that point would go from 3 slots to 2 slots by then I think due to canon lore to where NAIS reverse engineers them to make them 33 percent smaller to match the clans.
From that point new weapons would be added every year or so and they could skip years down the road if needed.

This thing would be interesting. Plus when you use it you get to scream "IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZOR!" :3
Edit - On second thought it needs to be a mech Kamehameha!

They can't balance what we have now. Adding more will just make it all worse. Adding a weapon in now is change for the sake of change, and that's never a good thing.

More weapons will be available in the future depending on how PGI handles the time period. I think we can all agree that they cannot keep to the 1:1 format and will have to fast forward periodically. I believe they have even stated this. So upcoming are:
Streak 4's and 6's
Snub Nose PPC
LBX and UAC's for more Autocannons.
Rockets
Plus more that I cannot think of atm, go check Sarna --->.
