Thanks! It used to be in the new players forum and had better exposure because... it's really the first question a new player asks... but...! :)

About to do my tier list on twitch.tv/kaosmavrck

Reposting again for easy reference:

Quote

From GaussDragon in the "KaoS Legion (currently the most successful competitive unit) joins Koreanese in resigning from active competition" thread:

The bottom line is that we want a richer game experience that takes balance and role definition seriously and it seems we've just been moving away from that with each successive patch as of late and we finally got too frustrated and stopped.

We're hoping that these issues will be resolved and that community warfare will be something to behold, but like I've said before, we've been disappointed a lot over the past year so our expectations are understandably trepid.

Nice video, was very interesting to watch.

I love that you keep expanding this list and the videos to include tactics and other cool stuff.
Keep up the good work :P

P.S. Can't wait for your verdict on the Orions

Wait, Stalkers went from Tier 1 to Tier 3? They're still quite viable with many laser builds.

Added resource! A very nice and easy to use mechlab in which you can save your builds!

http://mwomercs.com/...b-mechlab-tool/

It has a sustain fire dps graphing feature which I think will help everyone understand how to play the game optimally too!

Its a completely subjective list and should be viewed as such. I don't agree with a good portion of the list and based on actual competitive drops and scrims, neither does a lot of the units currently active in league play.

You should include weapons in the list they hold more relevance to the effective matrix on the mechs, they pretty much represent "abilities" in other games except all mechs hold access to them.

also could pair that up with the tiered mechs like ranged / brawler kind of how other lists in other games have (LoL mid top bottom) new players might look at the list and think "oh centurion is a teir one mech it must be good" then take ranged on it and just be terrible at top teir.

That's a good suggestion. I'll need some help framing this. Brawler - light medium heavy assault? etc etc?

prob best to label them as roles scout / support / ranged / brawler / pusher (tanky front liners like atlas or high dps ac5/ppc highlander)

could label them

for example id class ecm / bap / lrm as "support"

raven, scout | support
jenner, scout
atlas, pusher | support
highlander pusher | ranged
cent, brawler
phract, Ranged
Catapult, ranged | support

group weapons and all gear into roles also (not listing everything I cba) but example.

ranged, erppc | ppc | erl | lrm
pusher, uac5 | large | laser | erppc
support, LRM | erppc | ECM | Bap
brawler, srm | ac20 etc etc etc etc

along with tier off the individual weapons.

as for the balance stuff pgi can fix it by simply emphasizing on the whole role warfare by using the canon descriptions and the pilot trees to buff and balance certain under powered mechs like the awesome by allowing it to dissipate heat more effectively exclusive modules to certain mechs seismic etc, problem is tonnage and weapons are all that matters, its really bland and boring and its not changed for years. like you said why take one build on an assault that you can have on a lighter mech some mechs are actually support in canon you could give them airstrikes on a cooldown or say UAV on cooldown on certain scouts this could all be in the pilot trees instead of it being collect them all.. the agility buffs to mediums as well im confused to why they did not apply changes to the things that matter like turn speed accel and decel all could be done without changing canon builds and keep everyone happy.

My suggestion?

Drop Artemis, drop the 3 SRM6s for 2 SRM4s (Three SRM6s will fire as 1 volley of 12, 1 volley of 4, and 1 volley of 2), and swap the MLs to LLs. You'll get more consitant damage and gain some range.

Mav, now that PGI has fixed the center torso hitbox, does the Kintaro have any room on your list in a new role?

Thanks!

Hey Diamond - I talked a bit about the Kintaro in the video... Overall, I still feel like the CT is a liability (like the Orion currently)... Some variants can be strong but it's symmetry is ironically not an asset! It's a well-rounded mech overall but not a top-competition build.

Check out page 1 for the full list or my twitch.tv/kaosmavrck site or reddit.com/r/mwo/comments/1ml6cz/mavrcks_mwomech_tier_list_launch_week_of_17092013/

Speaking of mediums... we had a match with centurions recently - top-level competitive players in a 12-man having fun during Launch Day! Check it out:

http://www.twitch.tv...avrck/c/2950866

I think you can easily see how top players can use torso-twisting and the Centurion CN9-A to its fullest potential... the commentary also describes the tactics we use to defeated a heavier, longer range team...

All the games show really advanced level gaming at its best. Grats to Trev for winning Paul's Day of Premium Time too!

Le0 and I get to discuss this tier list, this game and best of all... I get carried while leveling my Orion! Some really great ideas come out -- Le0 really has some 'amazing, creative' ideas that could improve MWO!

It's a great video to watch. Hope you all enjoy.

(Do I need to say that was sarcasm?)

I also want to bring people's attention to Li Song's mechlab standalone program --- it's really really good -- send her some love!

Thanks again, MavRCK.

Makes me sad, I dearly wanted the Kintaro to be my 1st mech...I have 15 million cbills, and no mech, lol!

I like to move above 75 kph, do enough burst to tear out a component or better, and not crumple if I get pegged hard a couple of times ducking and running for cover.

I'd argue that the 5D spider is the best light ECM variant these days...specifically for its survivability and maneuverability. The 3L's legs just fall off so fast, I don't know why anyone bothers piloting them. The lack of jj's can also make them a liability when running around with a bunch of Jenners.
