For me, the sweet spot was always somewhere between 60-75 tons. Although if I can't ride an honorable Clan Timber Wolf, even a stravag Inner Sphere Bushwhacker makes a decent mount...

I prefer heavy-class.

Fast enough that I don't get frustrated.

Enough firepower to give my eyes a treat.

Enough armor to where I can shrug off a few hits.

Mediums for me. I am not adverse to taking a light mech and doing some scouting, though, and you might see me in a heavy from time to time, but I hate assault mechs with a passion.

My imaginary cockpit has an atlas doll with a few burn holes and dozens of pins and needles sticking out.

+1, I'm all about my medium mechs, and some of the lighter heavies too :)

I would love to pilot anything, but my heart and soul shall forever and always reside in a Centurion.

+1 medium here as well. I'll probably try to get my hands on something autocannonny like an enforcer, clint, centurion or hunchy. Missile and electronic mechs are just too much for my brain.

Here's a good question - Who's willing to take a config that doesn't boat ppcs or gauss? :)

ShadowCat for the win. That 'mech is so close to perfection it hurts.

I like hit'n'run tactics with small but angry mechs like wolfhound and panther, and electronic warfare platforms like raven or loki/hellbringer, and hiting backs with hunchback's AC. So... Assaults? Nope. Never heard about.

I'm quite comfortable with something lighter and more mobile. Especially with high jump capacity, considering the urban terrain we're all going to be friends with. Whitworth, please. I'll take an -S.

Willing sure. What I prefer depend on the interface. If I'm going to struggle to get full mobility out of a design using just a mouse and keyboard (on a laptop with no numpad no less) then I'll go for something where mobility isn't as big a deal. I loved running circles around bigger mechs in MW3, but found it difficult to do so effectively in MW4 without a joystick, there I tended toward the 70-90 ton range, which I prefer in the board game as well.

I'll probably be in a medium class Centurian as soon as I can get there and probably stick to that as much as I can. The only heavies I might consider are the JaggerMech or Catapult. The assault class is not meant for me, I'd just get ripped to shreads, it takes a certain level of crazy to walk into a battle with lead boots on.

So, here's to the crazies who'll be doing it, my heart goes out to ya. :)

I've always liked the Timber Wolf design. Heavy (75 tons), good lasers, powerful rack (of LRM20s), and can put jump jets on it for a nice surprise.

While there was a brief moment in time where I too used Assaults, I was quick to become a Medium 'mech specialist. The capacity to choose when I want to engage is indispensable, and Mediums monopolize the perfect blend between having that capacity and still being able to fight toe-to-toe against fatties.

Except for the "I too used Assaults" , I've never been good/enjoyed them....mediums are where it's at...

Heavies if you just need fire power, with still some flexibility

How cool would it be to be in a lance rolling with my Timber Wolf. Our dual light Scouts are reporting back information for me and my other Heavy/Assault lancemate to move on and address... Information warfare!

I like the idea of the Conquest maps. They are objective based and if the maps are large enough, can sometimes require that lances split up. There will be epic moments when I'm moving to support my light Scout once he's been found out and is in trouble.

"Aegis: Bravo Kilo, I'm moving to assist, ETA 40 seconds, just hold in there! You GOT to defend that objective til I can get to you, over!"

Ah yeah, the war memories are going to get made... in spades!

That reminds me. Us over at the Mektek forums REALLY need to get the workings of a Merc/Great House group together. I would love to battle alongside such great warriors, especially if the game is going to be like its described! I want to rain death down with my comrades!

I certainly hope mediums receive a lot of love.
Can't stand to lumber around.
If agility is really weighed in then mediums and lights will be boss.
