Piloted lights through Heavies. Personal favorites were the Wolfhound and Bushwhacker though. The Wolfie was just one heck of a nimble mech with great firepower, and the Bushwhacker could outfight mechs alot heavier than it.

Shadowcat, Uller or I may stretch to a Hellbringer.

As for IS tech, I'll take a Rifleman, Shadow Hawk or Catapult at the tech level the game launches with. :)

I think what I decide to pilot in the end will probably depend on the feel of certain mechs. While I love Assault class, mediums are usually the most versatile.

I am partial to Heavies and Mediums, especially those of the 3025-3039 era. As cliche as it is, I love the Warhammer - especially dropping the MGs and SLs for boosted leg armour and Heat Sinks.

It would be interesting to see mechs like the Quickdraw, the Clint, and the Trebuchet, and I very much hope that the premise holds true and the game does not become a cycle of trying to climb up the ranks to get Assault mechs. A game of choosing to master specialist roles would be much more to my tastes.

I'll fear anyone who masters a Trebuchet or Archer then.

Nova, Marauder (if it actually makes it in), Archer (again, if it makes it) and anything with a Gauss Rifle or three :)

Unless you're charging into a heavily fortified installation, you do not NEED to be in such a hefty class of mech. This explains why the MW4 multiplayer's "biggest is bestest" standard really annoyed the **** out of me. Although I'm not sure if Clan tech will be featured in this game(I really hope it is, though.), the only assault mech I can see myself piloting is the Gargolye (Man-o-War) since its basically a heavy with a couple extra crits tacked onto it.

The only real way I see Assault Meches not being ran for right out of the box is if the operating costs of them are super expensive and the player has to pay out of pocket, rather than one of the Successor States.

well i can tell you right now we all will prolly start off piloting light mechs. we will then have to train up to piloting mefium, then heavy, then to the assault mechs. that is if they keep the rpg aspect they were talking about.

Personally, I'd like to see the Battletech standard of 30% Light, 40% Medium, 20% Heavy, and 10% assault be enforced in this game, with faction preferences scaling them, appropriately. It might make the under-60t designs significantly less unappealing.

Given the choice, it all depends on exactly how Jump jets and zippy 'mechs are treated in the game. MW4 style jumpjets with the aerodynamics of a cinder-block works well for assault 'mechs, but they tend to make light mechs more a target than anything else, which puts a design like a Spider, Jenner, or Assassin at a disadvantage. Give it the Mechwarrior 2 treatment of being able to really maneuver, and it will be considerably better received. I just hope that if they do the MW2 route, they eliminate the skimming-along-the-surface-of-the-ground-at-400kph quirk of the system.

Likewise, in MW4, speed really didn't do much in the way of making your 'mechs hard to hit, so much as the smaller frame did. Even then, you had to be in a VERY compact design (such as the Uller, Flea, or Raven) to be a small enough target that the local jumpsniping Gladiator regular can't easily hit you at 600 meters with that one-hit-kill alphastrike. Beyond the benefits of covering more ground and getting terrain between you and the big guns sooner, I'd like to have speed actually make 'mechs harder to put the crosshairs over.

Granted that this game ISN'T going to turn out like every other "Bigger=better" games, I'd be glad to take a recon or striker role, running in and out quickly, not dealing much damage, but spreading confusion and making enemy Awesomes unsure if they should turn around to face the gnat at their rear, exposing their haunches to the Stalkers trudging down the middle. Also, taking out point defenses and other lightning raids sounds like fun.

Can't use an Awesome? I'll take a Warhammer. No? I'll use anything with a couple of PPC's.

The Uziel isn't available at this time, correct?

I am more than willing to pilot non-Assault chassis, as long as it is on the basis of playing smart and not repeatedly running in and dying. Light mechs are meant to be used as scouts and long range flanking harassers, to use one up close would not be a smart choice as they die too easy and are not meant to be the ones taking damage.

If they do it right the scout mech should be doing the electronic warfare part of the team role. Maybe it is the scout who can call in air strikes? Maybe theer are capturable points that give in game bonuses or a ticket system liek battlefield. A fast light mech can sneak behin the lines and cut the supply, take assets, harrass and hinder without engaging an atlas in a ******* contest.

Or is that just my mecha wet dream ...

Greetings all.

I played MW2, 3 & all 4 releases

I played most of my games in an assault (Yes you guessed it!) the old Gladbag! and hey I played that mech consistently and let me tell you I've been killed by all weight classes from lights up. Its not a question if "Oh he can only pilot an assault" its a case of that is my forte just as one or two pilots I could name regularly game me a good battering using only a medium.

Anyone who has played against me on the old NBT Sunder server will bare me out I used to get slagged off for using me Glad and often others came to my defense stating I always used it. But I also used lights, meds and heavies dependant upon the opposition and map normally a CB.

I used to belong to [AS] Alphastrike who brought you several maps and missions and all of our in clan and inter clan matches and missions where FFP puretech and standard loadouts and be honest anyone that has played that type of game is allowed to let their hair down when on public servers.

But hell I can't wait to see how this pans out. :)

I personally tend to play things that has a nice blend of firepower, survivability and mobility. The two first are Assault-class criteria, but few Assaults have the mobility I love. I'll most likely end up playing mediums or heavies, but it all depends on how things pan out.

I like mediums, give me a Wolverine or Komodo and I will be glad to cover a fire support unit or try to bring down the big boys.
