If I can have my dual gauss Summoner/ Thor with its jump jets and enhanced optics, I'll be the happiest guy in the Inner Sphere.

Anyone who restricts themselves to a single Mech will simply be salvage. Mech choice should be based on the mission/team tactics employed. Open country an Atlas is a great idea, in built up areas a lighter Mech would be a better choice. Saying that though an Atlas lying in wait while his Lance draws in the enemy could be devastating (can you say Alphastrike). Each Mech will have its strong and weak points but with the right tactics any Mech should be viable.

Just want to point out, that maybe an assault isn't as safe as you think when the Clans roll around. I know I want something that's pretty **** fast when I have to close that range gap, and isn't a sitting duck for their superior weapons :)

Hopefully they will find a way to balance the game so that all mech types are viable. Ideally, we would see one or two assault mechs teamed up with some light and medium mechs.

What I don't want to see Shadowcats Online again. Give us some diversity and give us a reason to use all mech types.

I've always preferred the 35-55 ton range. Especially now with the IW (information warfare), I'll be aiming for that range. Unless I suck at it, lol.

Pre-note: sry for wall-o-text and rant.

Every Mech to do the job they are needed for. Sure I will pilot an Assault, if I am defending a static location or attacking the same. I will be happy in a Light if I am doing some raiding or the assault force needs some eyes out front. In general I personally prefer the harasser type Mech. Something with good speed, enough armor to not die from a stray shot, and a decent primary energy weapon (large laser or PPC). Something I can put dents in with or punch through lighter back armor. Wolfhound, Griffin, or the Cicada version with the PPC are my goals. The ultimate pick though will be determined by how the damage resolution from weapon fire goes. IF it is more like the simulator versions of the Mechwarrior series then it will be harder to stay away from the big boys since a single large laser or PPC rarely records any significant damage since damage output and recording are designed around the fact that most of the time large groups of weapons will all be hitting the same place. It would not be uncommon for 6 medium lasers to hit the same torso at the same time. That is 30 damage to one spot. In the Mechwarriors that but "damaged" a medium or heavy mech when in the board game that is catastrophic to anything but an Assault. If they can find a way to keep the damage system closer to the board game somehow I foresee a lot more lighter Mechs used. (crosses fingers hopefully)

I'm happy to use a Jenner, it packs a good punch for it's size. In the right hands it can definitely take down a medium, maybe a heavy.

well i can tell you right now we all will prolly start off piloting light mechs. we will then have to train up to piloting mefium, then heavy, then to the assault mechs. that is if they keep the rpg aspect they were talking about.

Honestly I can see starting out in a standard medium since that is what the majority of mech forces are made of. Lights tend to be scouts and use a whole set of skills that is specialized to that. You don't send a rookie out in something that expensive that can't take a hit.

Look at the tutorials for the previous MW games and I think we will be seeing what we will start with. I hope that the different houses have different starting mechs that fit their lore and that the mercs get something that fits their lore as well.

I used a summoner with an ER PPC, AC 10 and 4-5 IS medium lasers with chain fire enabled in mechwarrior 3.
But i believe i've matured enough as a player to prefer a Stormcrow with a similar weaponload.

As for what kinda IS mech i would prefer...maybe a Hunchback or a Shadow cat.

I have played MW 2-4 and I dislike the fact that piloting lighter chassis ceases to being a viable option as the campaign progressed. Based on what the developers have said about MWO it seems that they want to create useful interactions between the different mech classes so hopefully this will be implemented in a way that incentivizes their use as opposed to forcing it with weight limits or other means.

lights and mediums have always been my bag. Given the option, I'll stick to 55 and under, except for the Guillotine. But the guillotine fights like a medium, anyway.

I like mechs between 55 and 75 tons, so heavy mechs like the Hellbringer for me.

Most of my favorite mechs to utilize are in the medium to heavy range, thought I grew up playing 3025 mechs in Battletech. While assault mechs have their obvious advantages, more often than not they can be maneuvered around and exploited, the most notable of which being the slow movement speed of general assault battlemechs. Given the option, I will likely be out in the field in either a Cauldron Born, or a Warhammer; here's to hoping I can get inside either of them come game time.

Can't use an Awesome? I'll take a Warhammer. No? I'll use anything with a couple of PPC's.

The Uziel isn't available at this time, correct?

The Pheonix Hawks speed, jumping, and the punch of that large laser was a killer combination in a force-recon mech. For heavier combat situations though, I'd be happy in a Crusader. Playing table-top back in the day, the Crusader always seemed to pack a hell of a lot more punch than it looked like it ought to on paper, and I've always loved running one. Very versatile (and who doesn't like living on the edge, on top of all that ammo?)

I would pilot a Jenner or in the medium catrgory a griffin, pheonix hawk or a dragonfly.... there are actually lots of light, medium and heavy I would consider depending on the era/tech available!
