Stop staring and don't get between a mechwarrior and his mech.
I think that we will see a lot of people piloting non-assaults if they get this game right, which doesn't necessarily mean you will stand toe-to-toe with an Atlas using a Stinger and expect to win.

Yep, correct, open beta stage has been finished and the game will be released next week. The big release party will take place in an exclusive resort on the Hudson Bay according to leaks inside PGI. Expect sort of a "beach bar" atmosphere on the sunny shores of the Hudson Bay...
Also the lucky ones who had a spot in the closed beta testing will as a sign of appreciation get a random assault ClanMech with 3055 tech for their efforts. PGI hopes you enjoy this F2P product coming to you next week for the modest fee of 125 US$. (They never actually stated it would be "free to acquire", just "free to play".)

All classes will be needed. Lights, meds and the big ones. Have to admit i have no idea on what mechs will be ingame, but i am one who like assault.
For me 80% of the game time in previuos MW`games have been in assault. Somewhere i read that there will be the few who can use assault in a good way, not sure, but i might be one of them. Fafnir are my favorite, and i have been doing fairly good in it even against lights. But i might "degrade" my self to the mediums when MWO opens up for mayham.
Everything depends on how the game ballance the classes. But in war you always need the MBT`s so somewhere there should be room for us big fat slow ones

It's not about using or not using Assaults, it about using the right class for the right job

That being said however I cannot wait to try my hand in a true centurion or better yet the Tempest and penatrator. I just always love playing with as many mechs as I can.
I also love just goofing off in a flea, I remember I tied up 4 assault mechs in a flea during this game with a frakking newbie, the guy kicked me after that. It was one of those awesome moments of gaming which I absolutely love to have.
