I think we will be seeing mostly medium mechs with a fair ammount of heavys and lights. Assaults will probably be few and far between because they are sitting ducks. There is a possibility that some of the lighter assault mechs will be a little more common, you know, assault mechs that are closer to their heavy mech counter parts than their 90/100 ton big brothers.

If we're playing CBT canon, assaults are fairly rare, but they have the ability to destroy lights and some unlucky mediums in a single pass. Most House use mediums, backed by heavies, as workhorse units. Lights are everywhere simply because they are cheap to replace and resupply.

Would be willing to play any class. But to be honest green pilots (which is what we all start as) are very very cery rarely given assaults so I would not expect even steiner to allow such an expensive mech in the hands of a noob.

I prefer heavy mechs, the Atlas in particular, as it always was a childhood favorite. I am no noob, I just like it  And I know to guard my rear and keep an eye on the fight and don't give my opponent a chance to strike back. "Victory favors preparation." Besides, dat cockpit :L Anyhow, I wonder if the Uziel will be back in MW:O. It was a very nasty little mech, if used properly.

Stop staring and don't get between a mechwarrior and his mech.

I think that we will see a lot of people piloting non-assaults if they get this game right, which doesn't necessarily mean you will stand toe-to-toe with an Atlas using a Stinger and expect to win.

Yep, correct, open beta stage has been finished and the game will be released next week. The big release party will take place in an exclusive resort on the Hudson Bay according to leaks inside PGI. Expect sort of a "beach bar" atmosphere on the sunny shores of the Hudson Bay...

Also the lucky ones who had a spot in the closed beta testing will as a sign of appreciation get a random assault ClanMech with 3055 tech for their efforts. PGI hopes you enjoy this F2P product coming to you next week for the modest fee of 125 US$. (They never actually stated it would be "free to acquire", just "free to play".)

Interesting topic.

All classes will be needed. Lights, meds and the big ones. Have to admit i have no idea on what mechs will be ingame, but i am one who like assault.

For me 80% of the game time in previuos MW`games have been in assault. Somewhere i read that there will be the few who can use assault in a good way, not sure, but i might be one of them. Fafnir are my favorite, and i have been doing fairly good in it even against lights. But i might "degrade" my self to the mediums when MWO opens up for mayham.

Everything depends on how the game ballance the classes. But in war you always need the MBT`s so somewhere there should be room for us big fat slow ones  But for me the dream would be perfect if Fafnir enters the playfield

It dosen't matter to me what I pilot. How I do it is this: I find a chassis that just feels right to me for each class and drive it till it feels like an extention of my arm. So when I get into combat I can decide what is really needed in a game. What?!?! we are being spawncamped?!?! This is NOT the time for a Raven!! Get my Warhawk that says "Pimphand" on it and sweep them out!!!!

It's not about using or not using Assaults, it about using the right class for the right job

Back in MW4 mercs I was epic in a Templar, yes i know it is an assault mech but i always upped my speed.

That being said however I cannot wait to try my hand in a true centurion or better yet the Tempest and penatrator. I just always love playing with as many mechs as I can.

I also love just goofing off in a flea, I remember I tied up 4 assault mechs in a flea during this game with a frakking newbie, the guy kicked me after that. It was one of those awesome moments of gaming which I absolutely love to have.

This really is a silly topic and of course your refering to MW4 again as a assault based only game(give it a rest)When MW4 vengance came out(i dont know why i have to tell the real history of MW4) there were about 10 good leagues going from MW3 so they adapted into MW4 leagues and this was on the MSN zone or ingame servers. No one just played assaults the games were varied and all mech types were used no matter if it was a solaris league or a planitary league or stock league. This same concept applied to MW4Mercinaries retail. If you ask all the millions of PC players that played MW4 they would say it was a great game and you all are nutjobs that think different .Having played all the PC game series MW1-MW4mercs each game had its own play style and sim-arcade like aspects. You cannot deny even Mechassault has its fans and it was liked by millions of Xbox players which i hope return for MW:O.It maked me mad when the most posted comments are by distractors to our main goal(unite all Battletech,PC Mechwarrior,Xbox,Fans and players)to MW:O. As for me and what this OP stated I personnally as a Mechwarrior pilot learned how to pilot a 20-100 mech to the best of my abilitys and be familiar with all mechs so i had the best chance to win a match or a team match with any givin mech chassis nomatter its tonnage.Just play the great NBT league your drop commander will put you in anything he has avalable and think you have the best chance to win in.
