We'll be celebrating this thread's birthday soon..

I've only been in an assault mech once. I'm usually in a jenner or a catapult : /

If it is done right the recon aspect of the light mechs could be a great part of this game. I am really excited to try it out.

I guess that would depend on the mission parameters. Mechs are usually designed with particular missions in mind (unless you have an Omni-mech, then you're a bit more flexible with what type of missions you can take since your load-outs are easily re-configurable.

Here is (IMHO) a list of what type of missions a particular weight class would probably be good at:

Stealth and Recon ("I am very sneaky, sir!") - Light mechs
Lightning raids ("We'll be in and out before they know what hit them.") - Light and Medium mechs
Escort mission ("I'm a mechwarrior, not a baby-sitter!") - Light and Medium mechs
Front line assault ("I need you to punch a hole through that!") - Heavy and Assault mechs
Base defense ("I'm just a walking turret.") - Heavy and Assault mechs
Of course, this is a very simplified list. Some missions you can't go at alone, you will need your buddies with you. Depending on mission parameters, it may require the lighter mechs to be the main force on the mission while being supported by their heavier brothers, or vice-versa.

I would love to see missions where lighter scout mechs are linked to heavy fire support artillery mechs, and the scouts would paint targets for the heavier mechs.

What are people talking about? I avoid assaults and heavies like the plague. I prefer the speed and agility of the light/mediums. Sure, the Dragons can haul, but they just have horrible loadouts...

Assault are WAY too slow for my gameplay style, Heavy Medium is the best ^^

I've been running a Hunch until recently. I've switched to a Centurion and will probably try a Cat or Dragon in a bit. I don't think I'd use an assault very often.

All I can say is the more metal between me and my enemy the better. Give me a 100 mech any day. What can I say I'm a tank.

WIll be overjoyed when NARC's are introduced. But that is how I've always played my Lights. I will probe and try to ID what the enemy has, light up their rear armor in support of what ever teammate they are engaged in. Go to their base and cause some of them to pull back to deal with the problem while teammates deal with those still engaged Or tie up a mech or two reducing their combat effectiveness against the rest of my team until I get support (which has happened) or I get popped (which happens more often).

Mediums and Heavies. My old-school choice would be an unseen like the Archer or the glass cannon Warhammer. The Catapult and variants fill that role, but looking forward to other favorites from 3025 -3049 showing up.

I stick with medium mechs most of the time, but do run heavies from time to time. I rarely ever use assault anymore. They're just not worth it.

I haven't gotten to play this rendition yet, but back in the day I used to beat campaigns with Jenners and Fireflys....I see no reason to stop now. I prefer mechs under 40t with high speed and jump jets.

Give me a Centurion, Wolverine, Grasshopper or Centurion Maximus and I'll be happy. Medium to Heavy suits my playing style more than the lights or assault. I need some speed but I also need punch. The only assault I will drive willingly is a Kodiak, as far as lights, a mercury.

Comming from MW3 I've always felt best within the 40-70 ton range of mediums and heavies.

When we get to the point where Adder/Puma is released, I doubt I'll run anything else though.
It's just about the only 'mech I have special feelings for.

A Catapult would almost certainly be my primary, if given the choice. I love my LRM's and I love my jump jets-- few other mechs have that wonderful combination.

Apparently I'm with the minority here, but I usually go with Assault or Light mechs. If I'm not in my Atlas for maximum power/defense, then I'll be running a Jenner for maximum speed/maneuverability.

I prefer heavies mainly. Good armor, good weapons and decent mobility and speed. Cataphract I shall hopefully be piloting at launch. Although this is the first MW title that I have actually really enjoyed using a light mech, so I shall have one of those in my mech bay as well.
