Most of us agree that poptarting is bad and needs to be nerf/fixed/resolved, but the way it has been done is making alot people motion sick and I'm done for the night after three rounds.

I still feel fairly sick an hour later, no other game does this to me.

Fair enough...if it proves to be a widespread problem, I agree that they should reduce the effect, or just have the reticule go wild. I will spend some time in my Jenner F...who knows, maybe I'll make myself sick and then join your side! I admit, I 've been having a bit of fun on the forums today because I was so waiting for this nerf to happen. IMO, poptarting was ruining the MWO experience. Probably went a little overboard with the schadenfreude. But making it painful to jumpsnipe in any mech greater than 50 tons needs to STAY IN THE GAME.

Well there you have it everybody. If there was an issue their crack team of ace internal testers would have caught it like they do all the others.

Yes they were due a nerf and your solution was to give everyone motion sickness and eye strain? Really?

Dont poptart then..

View PostKymlaar, on 04 June 2013 - 11:21 AM, said:

Any physical side effects are, I'd imagine, an unexpected change. Motion sickness and Eye strain are matters of difficulties with the physiology of individual players, and not something that the programmers can easily predict.

If it causes problems for you I might suggest looking for a setting you can adjust such as motion blur, or attempting a new personal adjustment to this, unfocusing slightly when the motion is occurring to avoid said eye-strain.

Or just dont poptart then..

THE POPTARTING ERA IS DEAD!! CELEBRATIONS ARE AT HAND!!

if u r experiencing these symptoms try using JJs less and try a bit of variety.

Exactly! Pretty sure this was the point of the change...

I would seriously rather that they make it impossible to shoot while jump jetting than have my screen shake like this which makes me dizzy as hell in minutes.

Yeah, apparently Steve doesn't suffer from motion sickness.

To discourage using JJs? Have you seen the mechs that are coming out?

If they wanted to discourage JJs, they probably shouldn't release so many freaking mechs with them...

Or make a portion of your community uncomfortable and unable to play....interesting theory.

No...you can absolutely use them...you just can't use them effectively to jumpsnipe anymore(which is really what most of the QQing is about, save for the light pilots who are probably getting too much shake). They are now in their proper role of occasional use for increased mobility and not an exploitable crutch for low talent players to use.

PGI this sounds like a health and safety issue requiring prompt attention. I suspect the motion illness is real and being caused by tje frequency and amplitude of the shake. This is likely where the solution lies.

OK guys, if it really makes you sick, and you're not just trolling trying to get your poptarts back, then you guys would be perfectly fine if they removed the ability to fire weapons while the mech was in the air and reverted the shake. Right?

What is it that you cant take a shot from a jumping mech,or you dont know how to use cover.Jumping Mechs have always been in mechwarrior. All im saying is that they did something that didnt need be done (as in shake`n of the screen) And if your one that cant take a shot from a jumping mech maybe this game nor series is not for you.

Except it doesn't, because you can still take out anything with streaks and jump and murder at will...shake means nothing for ms timed missile locks.

But it makes the game look like balls, and that is never a good thing, for a game that has really nothing more going for it right now than the art.

I don't give a damn about poptarts, use them, don't use them, they are more a staple of MW than half the people in here, it's a tactic, remove it, nerf it, keep releasing mechs that excel at it and wonder why it's an issue, whatever.

Actually past 300m, a little shake goes a long way (especially without zoom) and makes it hard enough to hit anyone, adding more shake (to the point my convergence starts going bonkers) is silly.

As far as the drinking slowly advise....pffffttt! ;p

I've been using mainly non-JJ mechs since CB...game still looks great to me.

But JJs are fun to use on lights, and they took (another) hit with this idea, is all I'm saying.

Well, lights were still OP...but nerfing their JJ ability too much wasn't the way to fix it IMO. That should probably be adjusted.

None of our internal testers reported this issue, but we will be monitoring this thread as it ruminates.

Possible Workarounds:
A ) Turn on lights.
B ) Sit further from your monitor.
C ) Take a 10 minute break whenever you start to feel ill.
D ) Ginger capsules or other anti-nauseants can be effective. Consult your field medic.
E ) Don't press Space.
F ) Un-equip Jump Jets

ok. this kinda ****** me off. would you tell people something like this?:

"None of our internal testers reported getting lung cancer from secondhand smoke, but we will be monitoring this.

Possible Workarounds:
A ) don't hang around smokers.
B ) don't go where smokers have been smoking recently.
C ) Take a 10 minute break whenever you start to feel ill.
D ) wash your own clothes daily to get their smell off.
E ) if you have smokers where you work, get a new job to avoid them.
F ) don't breath at all."

i agree that poptarting needed a nerf but it's really gone too far. people who were fine playing the game are suddenly getting ill. doesn't that tell you something? the screen shake is too much. i believe the reticle shake is just redundant in conjunction with the random firing offset but if you kept both of those it would be fine. just get rid of the screen shake.

I find it a bit odd that Niko would insult the paying customers of MWO, he should definitely lose his mod status for that.

What's more glorious than the stream of tears as the artificially inflated poptarter ELO crashes to the ground? Not much... Not much.

I'm gonna crack open a 12-pack and enjoy this.

The odds of people who poptart being paying customers? Low.

You not knowing that Niko is not just a "Mod"...priceless.

Take a look at the terrain your traversing while playing the game and then look at your mech / HUD, Notice any shake? There is none. There is tons of undulation in the terrain and if you are not shaking on the ground while moving you should not be shaking in the air while moving.

I feel there should be minor mech / HUD shake from any movement. In the air there should be minor vibrations through out the mech at most.

A better solution for poptarts would be more damage done when landing without jump jets to cushion it. And an automatic fall when landing while shut down.

Really though, poptarts and missile boaters, are only a problem for players who are slow and always caught out in the open.

I remember reading an article about novice game creation when making a first person game and one of the most underlined rules was NEVER change player view. You can create the illusion of shaking by moving the cursor and/or cockpit/helmit but never the actual camera.

This is exactly why I can't play the most recent Call of Duty. It has a million cut scenes and about 10 minutes of actual game time, and it makes me physically ill. Everything shakes the camera.
