Gasp! Could it be that Something Awful forumers are multidimensional people who have members both good and bad? Of course not, all should be judged by the actions a few. GUILT BY ASSOCIATION!

I think we're gonna pull it off.
The Haiti Charity thing got posted to the forums, pretty sure thats gonna be nail in the coffin.
The community will now have no choice but to see us as non-baby killers and non-holocaust wanters.
This will probably be the easiest one yet.

You'll still have to prove you can be good sports, but kudos on the charity. Nice job.

Being one of those evil CFC members I am having a generally hard time seeing the downside of GSF in MWO. I welcome them. And if they want to smash order... the federation... House Davion... frankly that's as much of a 'Capellan' reason as any to welcome them here.

And a lot of other people need to prove that they can be good sports when they lose to Goons, and not just go spouting off about "nefarious" tactics.

Only way they could withdrawl from a game is if a community aimed at them would form. That itslef would only feed their ego, but if those guys pitted the whole gaming community against them, hacked their forums, spammed their team speaks and make their lifes horrible, goons would simply cease to exist. :P

You know that things like that make them criminals and if it was proved by PGI, they could sue those people for a lot of money and no titan in the world would help them. I sincerely hope for them that they don't simply go against the law like that, because in real life, their actions aren't unpunished (like when Mittani got drunk and told them to force someone to kill someone or something like that).

An excellent post which illustrates the sheer hypocrisy of our critics; they take a black-humored joke out of context and distort it to suit their own narrative - the same sanctimonious bleating segments of the EVE community were guilty of - while simultaneously urging actual criminal acts, blind to the contradiction.

At least this post - unlike others in this thread - didn't equate internet robot conflicts or internet space conflicts to real-world war crimes.

3... hours.... 3... bloody.. . hours...

Having read through the flames, the arguements, the hilarity and the comments, i gotta say the whole issue's been blown way out of context. Okay, people are worried they are going to have their enjoyment griefed to **** by a group who have a particular reputation for it, but the game mechanics are going to be no where near as open as examples like Eve Online.

Chill out folks. And as for the Goon-boys, well played, reading through this was 3 hours well spent :P. I look forwards to fighting you all

From an outsiders perspective the Goons seem to be a ruthless, arrogant group willing to do basically whatever it takes to get ahead. But perhaps that is what the Capellan Confederation needs?

Because we're the heroes House Liao deserves, but not the ones it needs right now. So they'll hunt us, because we can take it. Because we're not their heroes. We're the Word of Lowtax. All about the tenbux. Goons.

It is not immoral for your bishop to murder my queen in chess.
Nor is it immoral for you to bankrupt me charging $850 for hitting a maxed Park Place then Boardwalk in Monopoly.
Nor is it immoral for you to unload twin PPC's into my Jenner, killing me in MechWarrior.
Nor is it immoral to rob, extort, threaten or kill in Eve
Nor is it immoral to murder, rob and kill police while playing Grand Theft Auto 4.

GoonSquad is an intelligence outfit. Their strategy is:
1: Learn everything about the game.
2: Learn everything about opponents
3: Analyze everything, looking for advantages.
4: decide upon a strategy
5: Implement strategy
6: analyze results
7: Repeat.

Anyone wanting to beat them will have to use the same strategy, or find a better one. Also remember, these guys are also fans of MechWarrior, and have been with us in MWO forums since day 1, because they freaking love 'mechs too, and have since BattleTech.

How many goons made an MW:O account just to troll post on this? Or just start talking on the forum for this? Anyways this thread is still blowing up in my face, its fun and all but lets tone it down people.

Goons aren´t about playing a particular game with rules and a particular background. They´re not a roleplaying community. They have once been formed from an idea that comes down to: "Lets gather enough players so we can crush any MMO/Realm we choose by ruining enough other players experience." They´re basically the party crushers of the MMO community.

For them, there´s no Capellan Confederation, no Marik, no Battletech. All that counts is Goons. MWO is just another game on their list.

If they can only win by exploiting, they exploit - e.g. by doing server-intense actions to produce lag. If they need to harass other players, they do it - e.g. by opening a private chat every second while the other player is fighting another Goon. If they want a gaming company to follow their will like change game mechanics in a way that favours their playing style, you will soon find that company listed as "holocaust denier" on wikipedia, read seriously looking articles about balancing problems in gaming magazines or - their favorite - shitstorms in forums. If you ever see the Capellans win a fight because the other team got backstabbed by one of their own, that guy most propably was a goon...

Goons are Capellans in MWO? Well.. that´s one faction less I need to consider for joining. That and some hope they might possibly loose interest soon...

I signed up for MWO without even thinking to check if there would be goon presence. Luckily you created this thread and I was thusly alerted that I would have brothers in arms to start the game with. So, I guess you could say that this is all your fault! Hell, I wasn't even going to post on the forums considering I never really got into the Battletech mythos much, I just played the **** out of MW2 and 3 back in the day and was pumped for a new game. Anyway, most goons are good people (although, full disclosure - I never played Eve). Back in my FFXI career I played in a goon LS for a time before migrating severs to play with some rl friends, and I had a blast with those goons, and they never made any trouble. All the hype surrounding goons and their goonery is just that, hype. I think most people will end up enjoying our presence for one reason or another.

Don't be silly, many of us were battletech fans long before Something Awful was even a gleam in Lowtax's eye. Besides, we care deeply about Capella's success, because its ours our home now.
