1) Use lighter mechs instead of assaults only
2) Use proper engines instead of just cramming your stupid cheese mech full of weapons
=> Problem solved.

So am I the only guy that loses to cap and goes, "Well played Sir, well played."?

/Would seem to make more sence to fight for a base in the middle to take over the area, than to have 2 bases on a map. just saying

If you kill the other team you get rewards, if you take control of the base and win you get some extra goodies.

Just started playing tonight, but almost every match I've played so far ended in the complete and utter destruction of the other team (with only a few casualties on my team... if any).

Haven't seen one match that was one by capping...yet.

This has not happened to me even once. Besides, that what Beagle Probes are for.

I've done this 6 or 7 times. Oh look the last guy is an atlas sitting on his base. Well screw him, going to hide on this hard to get terrain in my Jenner, power down, and watch TV.

Do you honestly think you'll ever find me once I run into the mountains in my Jenner? Without JJs you can't even get up there without circling around the entire map.

Stop trying to shift blame. It's your fault if you get capped all the time. Reconsider your positioning/strategy to better counteract base captures.

This is entirely an issue of learning to play. You have to learn map awareness, positioning, and the limitations of your team. It's trivial, but you need to put in the effort.

I am also deeply amused by your sig Jman. Just saw Pacific Rim and Charlie was surprisingly awesome in it.

Players who do not understand that bases need defending are ruining the game.

That's sort of like a simplified Conquest idea, but I like it for Assault.

No offense here, but your statement has the smacking of a little ADD. "...you would still have to wait AN ENTIRE BLOODY 15 minutes for the match to end." A match only lasts 15 TOTAL, so it would not be waiting for 15 minutes. More like fighting for 7-9 and waiting the rest. God help us should we have to wait a few extra minutes...And capping is not the answer to ADD.

So then the people wanting TDM, can simply always defend their base. There should be no problem for them to wait the 6 to 8 minutes for the enemy to get there.

Unless both team just camp their own cap. Used to happen every so often in closed beta. Nobody moves, or scouts scout and everyone else falls asleep at their cap while the lights fight it out.

Why do this tho? (Yes, sorry, only a tangent on the thread.) You don't get paid (cbills or xp) for living, but you do for damage done. It seems you'd get more out of at least taking some shots at the Atlas.

I never saw that happen. Either way they won't be losing to a cap which is their main beef right?

You get more xp for a win, though technically I didn't get paid any because I had to kill my DCed partner before the other atlas could. And who likes losing?

I also only had one leg horribly damage and a completely wrecked CT, lost arm (so only a tag and medium laser remaining) and only one srm4 left.

I'll also note I had full support of my team and not a single one ratted me out for the 7 minutes I was holed away (I was pugging too).

If I notice my team is made up mostly of heavies/assaults, I usually suggest we don't stray too far from the base, enough that someone can get back during a cap. If that doesn't work, i'll hang within range for a minute or two (most of my mechs have some sort of speed to them, exception is the atlas) and watch for any lights. If no lights have shown up by the time the teams start exchanging long range fire, I'll come up to support - and can still turn around if there's a cap.

Lights capping isn't the problem - this is a valid tactic to pull some of their team back to base. The problem is, 8 idiots (I chose another word at first, but realized it was going to get * out) sit there watching the cap drain down, expecting someone else to go back because they 'want to fight'.

If you're the one complaining about it, and have seen this in half your battles, then perhaps you should be the one to reach the team a little slower like I suggested. It's very satisfying to step into that light that doesn't think anyone's around and isn't paying all that much attention in the first few seconds they start capping and are standing still :)

Tip: If you get there, and they run, start walking off....and be prepared for them to come back again.

Ah, yeah. My brain said "his team was going down in flames, and he had a full mech in hiding"... assumption, biting me on the a$$ again. ;-) Players that are fully functional (if not unscratched) doing the same thing kinda irk me. Without both legs, you couldn't even try to tease the Atlas away from his base.

He eventually came looking, but ya. He was basically full health with all his guass + ppc goodness, and I was in shambles from taking down 2-3 people solo prior. Was on the cap, got it about half way, he showed up and I was like screw it I'm hiding, its 6-7 and I'll get the win.

Then I realized we had a DC and if the atlas found him it would be 7-7 so I quickly heatshot him and hid in the far end of the cave behind the waterfall and powered down.

I watched two Liao in jenners the other day try to hide. One was under their base in river city (in the underground tunnel area) the other in the water. We had 9 minutes left....both powered off.

I said "Really? You're both that worried about KDR?"

Well, enemy got too close to the one in the water, so he up'd and ran instead of fighting the lone cicada, ran into the same area the first was powered off, and powered off. The Cicada followed him down, killed the first powered off jenner, then the second powered off Jenner. I laughed my butt off and took a screen shot.

That is hilarious, I love it.
