I agree. But with this experience in mind (it was my first attempt to help a newbie) I will think twice next time to do so. I feel like he just wasted my time and good will.

Ditto Postman, after consuming loads of info from the very helpful, more experienced players on these forums for 4 months, I wanted to try and 'give back' a little, ho hum. Let's put it down to practice!! At least we have a good thread here we can copy and paste from in the future :)

Holy crap if that's what it takes to get into this game I might have to pass. Why is it every game now a days requires you to read a ******* book? I tried playing natural selection 2 and got a similar set of a billion.
The best thing to do is play a little, then read/watch a little. There's a basic starter video on the main site that's like 7 minutes long and does a fairly good job of explaining the fundimentals (targeting, grouping, firing, heat, radar, and movement). From there, there's more videos that go more in depth, but they'll be there when you need them.

If you're not familiar with Battletech or Mechwarrior, then you're at a bit of a disadvantage in some terms. In that case, I suggest reading a bit more.

Mechwarrior online is not a plain old shooter, it's a teamwork game built around a tactical wargame, so there are some terms and mechanics that are very distinct about it. It's not an easy pickup and play, but it can be rewarding when you grasp it.

Don't get discouraged about helping new players from this thread guys. You have to expect this from time to time sadly. If anything it does show, along with many other threads in this forum, that there are plenty of players who are willing to help anyone new with even the most basic problems.

Kudos

I don't understand how you play Battletech the TT, yet the level of complexity here is difficult for you.

I like little mechs, can I play a little one with gauss rifles?

Truth be told, you actually can. Not soon as you'd need to get some funds, but Raven 4X, Spider 5K can both carry a gauss rifle. But it takes a lot trade-off to carry one since the rifle is half the spider's weight, and the Raven 4x can only carry 5 tons more than a spider.

I want to drive a raven, it's the only good mech. Well, honestly the catapult, Atlas and Raven are the only decent mechs in this game. I have no idea why they would hand pick the worst mechs from battle tech; the dragon, awesome, spider, stalker, and commando are some of the lowest rated mechs of all time, hell the Awesome was voted, and won, worst mach ever made.

Ok this is a misconception. The only good mechs being the ones you like or had success with I will assume. I am not good in light Mechs myself, but I know players who can kill multiple Assaults in a Jenner.

The Dragon an Spider I will agree got a bad draw on TT the Jager was a throw away in my experience too, But a Stalker an a Awesome... Well the Awesome got shafted with bad hit boxes but the Stalker is the main Meta Mech right now. If you know Battletech, try what is in MWO you may be surprised how the Mechs stack up in this game v TT. I know I was.

You want easy .... buy console games, this is not meant to be an arcade game. It's a skill based game, you need to develop the skills to play it. I'm not trying to be a big meanie, but why should a skill game most of us enjoy for that fact have to be dumbed down to suit someone who wants a generic arcade game to play. I'm sorry, but I think you have a choice to make, work at the game like the rest of us, or go play something that's already easy. If you want to play MWO then you need to learn how to play it and spend the time doing the work to get better. People who want MWO to be easy are the people who tend to ruin the skilled game play by convincing the devs to dumb it down for them, like those that cry about OP weapons and systems till they start rewriting the rules of the game to help the helpless (BAP counters ECM..BS). Learn to play with skill

natural selection 2 is actually insanely easy. Commander is where its more difficult even that once you get the gist of what to do its easy

If your marines dont travel alone, help build buildings as best you can, repair your teammates with welder bought at armory.

if your aliens hit B to evolve into other aliens using resources or to add traits to your current evolution ( skulk which is your default alien can upgrade traits for free the other versions have to pay for each trait.) other than that its just a normal FPS. Each alien has its str and weaknesses.

now as far as MW online is concerened

stick with your team mates, do NOT run off alone, never stop moving and stay behind cover unless you are about to fire at someone or moving to differnt cover.

Actually, that Dragon goon build that was voted as the champion mech would probably be the best start for you. It's fast enough to move, and the 2 x large laser + gauss configuration is simple and effective.

They stole that build from me. :D

I actually love that configuration in the Flame. :(
The shoulder mounted Gauss is a dream for sniping over ridges and the speed together with the 2 LLs makes it deadly.

You're already 99% of the way there- and you even made it to the forums- the first part of the last step. I hope you're ready for the last step towards "making this game as easy as possible":

You need to reach deep, deep down within your heart, and close off the part of you that loves all that is good and fun in the world.

Now you must go to the general discussion forums and complain about EVERYTHING that kills you. Continue to do so no matter how many people point out that whatever you mention isn't a problem. Persist against all logic and reason.

Eventually you will get your way, and things will get nerfed.

Alternatively, you could stay the reasonable human being you are now, turn away from the dark side, and try something along these lines:

And never go around a corner that a teammate hasn't gone around first.

I tried playing this like many months ago but I've forgotten everything about the expierance only that it was bad.

Wait, everything is color coated? Ahaha oh wow, well I'm not sure what to do. I have monochromacy, so unlss there is a mod to change the arrows to black for friendlies and bright white for enemies I guess I won't know who is who.

You do spawn with your allies though, right? Well after they all leave I won't know who is who.

Press R this targets enemy mechs by putting a box around enemies. It won't do this for friendlies.

Suggestive 9/10 rating. We just need some posts from white knights to get 10/10.

I mostly play tabletop games and battletech, and I wanted to play a game version of this. I tried playing this like many months ago but I've forgotten everything about the expierance only that it was bad.

Don't take this the wrong way but it really isn't that complex, it just seems that way at first.

My first suggestion is to go to Options and look at the key mapping. This will show your keybinds and what they do. For example you look there and you will find that "R" locks a target and "N" engages night vision among a slew of others.

Second, go to the training ground and run around for a while. Get used to the fact that your legs turn independantly of your torso. Get used to the fact you have two crosshairs that have different ranges of motion. Get used to the fact that mechs have momentum and can't accellerate or stop on a dime. Basicaly just get used to controling the mech.

Thrid, make sure to unlock your arms from your torso. Locking them makes it easier at first but you will end up never becoming competitive.

Fourth, turn your mouse sensitivity down in the options. It is much easier to aim with a less sensitive mouse.
