That said it's nice to have a Draconis Combine mech.

The KTO sin't exactly a Snake Mech, but a Star League design. The Dracs got some KTOs from ComStar, though, but they had to purchase Rasalhaague in exchange for them.

It's to bad it lost the monkey look of the original graphics... I think some of the MWO mechs are loosing some of their iconic looks.

You want more mechs to look like monkeys?

Honestly I'm a kintaro hater but that concept art is really good, and I can't wait for a 55 tonner spewing srms.

I just hope that the screen shot of golden boy is a pov trick (not sure what to call it) because the arms look really awful for the ingame model vs the concept arts good looking arms..

Posted Image

Just.. the arms look like they go down than out than down than out like a pyramid.. :S

edit: also don't care for the laser stacked on a laser on the arm.. wish they'd done the over under approach

They have always taken the TRO art and made it look like a real machine of war. With all due respect. The Kintaro didn't look like a machine of war, and I don't think the original could even be modeled to look at all like something that could really walk around.

I think your right for the most part, although; I do think they should have came a little closer to the original look. When I first looked at MWO's version of the Kinyaro, I didn't know what mech it was until I read the name tag at the bottom... It's just sad when a mech loose it's iconic look...

So if they basically just made every mech in the game 100% identical to the original sketches from the 1980's, that would be the best?

Yes, that is the ugliest mech in the history of everything.

Glad Alex did better.

Seriously? Another surprise mech? When you have lights falling behind and already passed over the Orion, which pissed a lot of us off, myself included. Plus you were teasing the Wolverine on the news, so you have two 55T mechs lurking.

If anything the light pilots deserve a mech this month and if you can't do that then Orion, after the stunt you pulled before. Jesus Christ PGI, I'm normally very patient but this is getting rediculous.

I would like the 1980's mech updated, although; I would like them to maintain it's classic look... So, when you look at it you know right off what it is...

The problem is, this is Kintaro we're speaking about.

It's a design that noone knows about and those few unlucky souls who did ever use it have it defined by it's total ugliness.

xengk explains it in this thread; go over and give the post a like. I thought it was a Power Instinct 2 reference B)

You are close.
Kinta Kokuin from Power Instinct 2 is actually based on the Japanese folklore hero Kintaro 金太郎, often shown as a baby in red and gold belly cloth. Visibility of dangling bits depend on the artist.

Kintaro 金太郎 also literally means "Golden Boy".

I usually agree with posts like these, but the pic was probably drawn months ago and the little piece of fiction took them five minutes to write. It's just fluff to keep people interested in the game. I'm more upset that they're working on unnecessary stuff that actually takes resources, like 3PV.

I've played pretty much every Battletech video game released since Mechwarrior 2. It's one of my absolute favourite video game series, up there with the Tie Fighter / X-wing games, Wing Commander, X-Com, all that.

Before MW:O, I had no idea that many of these mechs even existed. I don't care if the Kintaro looks like a monkey, a walrus or an upside-down squirrel. And I'm pretty sure that I represent a larger demographic than the TT fans who are still rocking mullets, jeans jackets and leather pants.

There's lots of awesome sci-fi art from the 1980s, 1970s, even the 1960s, that still inspires artists and looks great to the general sci-fi fan even today. But unfortunately, most of the Battletech is very much hit and miss, and only a certain number of designs are actually iconic. A lot of the mech designs would look right at home in any 1960's sci-fi comic book. Compared to other sci-fi universes, like Warhammer 40,000 or Transformers, I think the Mechwarrior franchise has been remarkably faithful to its original concepts, despite lacking a strong aesthetic or unique and interesting background. With universes like Warhammer 40,000, if you look into the older art and older background, you'll often find something more unique and interesting than the modern redesigns or rewrites, but looking at the older art and older background in Battletech, a lot of it seems like it was created by teenagers.

It's actually quite remarkable how well the Battletech franchise has done, all things considered. Just goes to show the appeal of huge stompy robots, I think.

This Mech looks so generic, just like the Quickdraw was. Come on, Alex Iglesias is awesome at drawing Mechs. Give him some more varied Mechs to work with than humanoid designs with no defining features.

I'm with you on this, it maybe that I'm trying to relive my youth (I was in my 20's in th 80's). I played mechwarrior 1 on a IBM 8088... I remember when battletech was only a box game... I maybe the only one here, I just would like the updated MWO mechs to look closer to the classic mechs. Then again, I'm a old fart and grow up with the old out dated artwork...

I thought this was just an announcement, people who think this announcement of a new mech will automagically push back the release of other mechs that are in design and production might be a bit off the mark here.
