Yet another Rube Goldberg patch introducing unnecessarily complex game mechanics to fix simple issues.

Hopefully the "hang" fix has really fixed it.

Edit: Having tried the new Gauss mechanic, I can pretty safely say I'll never use the weapon again. Bravo on limiting the number of effective weapons combinations yet again. People complain about "boating" so you nerf the ability to boat. People complain about poptarts so you nerf the two "best" ranged weapons. Next people will complain about brawlers ... what will you do then? Eventually all of the weapons will be equally crappy and then we can start all over again.

Also I'd like to point out it says we're getting the Protector Orion today, regular Orions on the 10th... then what's on the 17th?

Regular Orions for MC on the 10th. Then for CB on the 17th.

He complains because his builds got nerfed a bit. That's not a proper complaint. That's just being selfish and not caring about the game.

You're damn right.

After plumping down $15 to test the waters of this 'free to play' game, playing hundreds of games and building up 3 Cecada variants that suited my gameplay style and gave me the greatest range of play styles, it feels like its all be wasted. That is not a way to encourage new players!

I didn't see PPC or even gauss being particularly over-powered, sure I got downed by them, but only due to my own stupidity or from being on a clueless public team. As for using them, on a medium 2*ERPPC can't kill anything in one-shot, not unless they are severely damaged already. It was fun to sneak behind enemy lines and cause so disarray with them though and at a push could help in close range combat, though running away is far better. So while I could accept that maybe they needed some tweeking from the general community, what they've done seems to be way overboard.

The problem for me is if this really has nerfed PPC, then two of my 4 hard-worked for and paid real money for mechs have become useless, or will necessitate changing my play style to the deterrent of the team (i.e. staying far away from battles, not scouting, taking pot shots to farm assist c-bills). Neither of which I like and is highly off-putting in terms of sinking any more money into this game.

Looks like a damn nice patch.

The PPC stuff hurts a ton, but will probably make for a more interesting game. I would still prefer if PPCs and ERPPCs didn't have the same projectile speed (say the ER was 1500).

However, a plain zero under 90m? Why not make it 8 at 120-90, 6 at 90-60, 2 at under 60? That would've been nice. And for both ER and regular PPCs, please.

Anyhow, can't way to get home and take an actual combat run through the changes.

This is the first patch I have been excited about in a long time!

It is ironic that after all the changes in heat an damage that we are returning to the oringinal numbres. If I were a betting man I would guess that once everyone moves to large lasers and the Lazpocolypse is in full swing those will be returning to their default values as well.

Anyway I am really looking forward to the new patch, and don't sweat the haters, hopefully they stick around and learn how to mechwarrior.

THIS GUY HAS 1 POST and HE'S POSTING TO COMPLAIN! PGI - are you blind to how you are affecting your clients? His first post is complaining about you.
and his post is just wrong and full of inaccuracies born of inexperience.

PPC's are still far better than their closed beta versions due to HSR. Far better. That was the whole point, PGI buffed them long ago to compensate for how unreliable they were to anyone with a less than ideal ping or when fired at someone with a poor ping. Then HSR fixed that and PPC's became miracle weapons.

Up till now, large laser or PPC? It wasn't even a question, the PPC being far better for only a small increase in size.

PPC's are still good. Now you just need a little more talent and brain to use them effectively.

oh wait...

seems like a lot of the textwarriors will be back to using LRM's

I like the changes except ppc speed... I don't mind the heat, but the speed feels unrealistic for this type of weapon, though if it requires more skill to use it is better, fewer people would use it

PPC under 90m = 0 dmg Heat 10 ... now we can start talking lore.

+1 for this patch
+1 for PGI
+1 for the good old closed beta times

next step:

- UI 2.0
- Collisions and Damage
- R&R
- CW

and I'm fine with you guys again

R&R should never return to this game again.

Ever. I, along with many others, were very glad to see it go.

Ridiculous paint job IMO. Kerensky "The Protector" was in an SLDF Army Green mech just like all the others. At least that image made it easy for me to decide whether or not to buy it.

don't diss the Gordon Freeman HEV suit.

Totally overnerfed sniping.

This patch just killed the (ER) PPC:
- Bump of base heat for both PPCs
- reduction of projectile speed
- PPC damage under 90m has been reduced to 0
You effectively reversed every buff for PPCs since closed beta
PPCs are back to closed beta levels aka. ERs are unusable and standard are actually even worse now with the removal of damage below 90m

The balance wasn't far off prior to this patch, a little buff for brawling and then sniping as well as brawling would have been equally viable.

Instead you decided to kill sniping and make brawling the way to play.

I don't understand why you are not aiming at making both playstyles viable at the same time. If you in fact did aim for that, then you failed horribly - again.

You don't hit a waepon system with 3 big nerfs in one patch guys, you just don't.
When people asked for more frequent game balance changes, gradual & small adjustments where meant, not the biggest sledgehammer you could possibly come up with.

I think is a great move. I mean other than the charging thing, that one seems a bit wonky but meh.... I am glad to see that players will have to learn to balance a mech and learn how to pilot. Standing back and sniping was getting detrimental to the game. People were beginning to give up and go elsewhere for gaming needs specifically due to the cheese sniping meta.

I for one am glad to see PGI get serious and listen to the majority of the community and put PPC back to where they should be in regards to heat. C'mon guys diversify and balance a mech out. Take off one of those PPC's and slap on a missle rack or a few ML's. Best thing they could have done to the game is fix the lame cheese sniping meta.

To all you cheesers.... Welcome to Mechwarrior as it should be, time to learn to pilot and be able to brawl or duck n weave...

WELL DONE PGI!!

Regards

While I sorta agree with the removal of Ghost Heat, there's one problem with that: Dual AC/20s. Removing Ghost Heat will just see a return to half the mechs in every game being Dual AC/20 Jagermechs and that's something I can do without. I will support getting an increase for the PPC though, that should go up to three.

Huh? Where did you see Ghost Heat is being removed?

Very nice patch, it'll be interesting to test out the new sniping mechanics. I don't think it's totally nerfed them but it'll take a few seconds longer to think about that shot before unleashing hell from afar. Looking forward to launch and more information about CW....oh yeah and ORION!!!!

EDIT: On testing the patch briefly I am super happy with the changes. All you PPC QQers, don't panic it doesn't make too much difference to the solid competitive builds and I actually now prefer the guass this way to before. The Orion looks great and the new movement tutorial is a really nice polishing touch. Bravo PGI, my overlord phoenix and saber await, and I'm stoked for launch. Talk about stepping in the right direction :-)

Glad you found back in the right direction.
But don't forgett, trust isn't a matter of a moment Piranha, and many of the good will you guys had at te beginnig will take a lot of time to be restored.

I am guessing you don't run PPC or Gauss builds? Am I right?

I do, and I find the changes to those weapons fairly irrelevant.

Though, I also don't spaz out, holding down the trigger, while all my weapons fire at once. There are 6 weapon groups, y'all should learn to use them.
The nerd rage over this is going to be delicious, I think I'll grab my 'mocking hat'

  • PPC damage under 90m has been reduced to 0.
  • Gauss Fire Delay:
    • The Gauss Rifle requires a 0.75 second charge before it will fire.
    • Once charged, the shooter has 1.25 seconds to fire the round.
    • If not fired during the 1.25 second charge, the Gauss Rifle will instantly dissipate the charge and require another charge to fire.
    • Both the cooldown bar and the weapon group ready light will turn green when the Gauss is ready to fire.
  • PPC base heat increased to 10 (up from 9).
  • ERPPC base heat increased to 15 (up from 13).
  • PPC/ERPPC projectile speed slowed to 1500m/s down from 2000m/s.
  • Gauss projectile speed increased from 1200m/s up to 2000m/s, internal health increased to 5 (up from 3).

  • Reduce lava damage/second by 30%.

  • This is a joke right? I mean...really... If not, then when do we get real DHS? Nobody can be stupid enough to think ERPPC's are viable without 2.0DHS now.
