I am actually of the opinion that this same reason is behind the lack of additional game modes.
Right now, you can specify Assault, Conquest, or either... Thus splitting the MatchMaker... If they added Deathmatch, and Dropship options... Two more splits.
Additional modes could very well be already done, but the player base is too small to activate them without breaking the MatchMaker worse than it is already.
