I think they can make a legitimate argument for posting breaking news on twitter before the forums.

Especially if there are server/website related issues that are impacting the servers and doesn't allow them to post to the website.

You all realize they put a notice in there that they were doing extra server maintenance and it would take longer than usual, right?
