Many Thanks! Found it right away following the path you posted!

no problem. "Saved Games" is a weird subfolder to use. I haven't seen any other game use it except Win7's Chess.

No, you can get a Savior kill without actually killing enemy 'Mech.

A savior kill means you hit an enemy mech who was attacking one of your buddies at low health and the enemy died soon after, by your hand or someone else's. The idea being you "saved" your teammate (though you may have done it in conjunction with your other teammates). Someone can post a link to the actual description. This is just the jist of it.

Check the following values:

Inner Sphere LRMs
  • LRM-5 - direct fire spread: 3,7; indirect fire spread: 4,7
  • LRM-10 - direct fire spread: 3,7; indirect fire spread: 4,7
  • LRM-15 - direct fire spread: 4,7; indirect fire spread: 5,7
  • LRM-20 - direct fire spread: 4,7; indirect fire spread: 5,7
Clan LRMs
  • LRM-5 - direct fire spread: 4,05; indirect fire spread: 5,05
  • LRM-10 - direct fire spread: 4,05; indirect fire spread: 5,05
  • LRM-15 - direct fire spread: 5,05; indirect fire spread: 6,05
  • LRM-20 - direct fire spread: 5,05; indirect fire spread: 6,05
As you can see, LRM-5 and LRM-10 have the same spread; LRM-15 and LRM-20 have the same spread.

Not a question, but maybe of interest to someone. I've done a few tests in the testing playground. Huntsman Pakhet, Artemis, direct line of sight. I was shooting a Commando light mech from 450 m.
  • 2xLRM-10: 7 volleys to kill = 140 missiles.
  • 2xLRM-15: 6 volleys to kill = 180 missiles. Quite an advantage to smaller launchers if you ask me.
The results were consistent, repeated three times.
I was also looking at the effect of TAG in this configuration, and found none. Doesn't TAG give you better spread? Or is it the case that it doesn't stack with Artemis bonus, so if you have Artemis than TAG does nothing extra?
I've repeated the TAG test on a heavy mech (don't recall which one) and there also was no difference.

And now a question: what's an (I) mech? I think the one I've seen in the game was a Direwolf, but not sure about that.
And a second question: do the colors (used for painting your mech) ever go on sale anymore, i. e. offered at reduced price?

'Mechs with letter identifiers are special variants, usually acquired as part of a package, or for the yearly loyalty rewards. I have a number of (P) 'mechs from my purchase of Project Phoenix, and several (L) loyalty 'mechs, for example. They are identical to the normal variant, but have a 50% c-bill bonus like Hero 'mechs, and will sometimes have special colors and geometry.

This is a 'Mech from the original Clan Invasion 'Mech pack. You can find it in the store.

It has:
  • C-Bills bonus
  • special livery and geometry
  • letter (I) behind the name
Other than having those things, it is just standard Daishi Prime.

TAG does not stack with Artemis IV - nothing does, if I remember. It does still give the better lock-on time and target decay. This is typical of interactions between NARC, TAG, and Artemis; the secondary effects stack, but the missile grouping does not, if I remember it right.

As for smaller launchers, well - yes and no. Smaller launchers' better missile spread does mean that you have better time to kill with those LRMs, because more of your missiles hit close to center mass, dealing more effective damage. You only have so many missile hardpoints, however, and you pay a premium in heat for the better spread and higher rate of fire with small launchers. By the same token, AMS systems are much more effective at chewing through small volleys, so a higher total throw weight in missiles (regardless of launcher size) is generally preferred.

Additionally, size matters: larger 'mechs will have tend to take more of their damage to the center of mass, because there's more mass to be centered on (^_^), while very small 'mechs will even see some missiles from larger launchers missing them entirely. Doing a one-of test against that Commando in Forest Colony (Classic) from spawn, it took me six volleys with 2xLRM10s from my Roughneck Powerhouse, but eight volleys from a single LRM20 - and it's got -15% missile spread.

So there are drawbacks to larger LRM launchers, and in general you'll do better with more smaller launchers if you can manage the heat, but there are benefits to larger LRM systems as well.

I think that you should concentrate on using direct-fire weapons instead of on LRMs to get more consistent results.

With the current state of Radar Deprivation, LRM's are a direct fire weapon that has some indirect capability. If you use them primarily indirect you'll see very inconsistent results unless you have a dedicated spotter mech. Spare the need for a spotter and use them direct fire. 300-400 range they're pretty strong.

Funny you say that, because I've found out that there is exactly one mech of the 68 that I own (plus a number of trials that I've tested) that always works. It's the only one with which my tier rank is climbing up, not dropping down. It's the LRM50 (2x15 + 210) Artemis Huntsman Pakhet. I am in tier 5, and I know LRMs barely work at all in higher tiers, but it's literally the only mech I have a chance of getting into tier 4 with.

I have other LRM boats, but none as strong as this one, probably because they are heavies and assaults. And even Cyclops-10Q or Scorch are hard-pressed to match - let alone surpass - the Hutsman's average damage per battle, which is over 500, if not closer to 600. It's insane, especially for a medium, since 600 is a good match in any assault. For LRM Pakhet, 600 is every match.

Of course, use any 'Mech that works for you.

Just keep two things in mind:
1) The higher you move between Tiers, the better the enemy players know how to protect themselves against LRMs.
2) The Tier system is not some kind of reward. It is a matchmaking tool and its primary purpose is to give you balanced games.

I need to buy an XL engine, which costs quite a bit. Is it cheaper, in some sense, to buy a mech that comes with the needed engine? Or is the nominal price of the engine exactly incorporated in the mech cost and there's no savings to be had?

Mech cost includes the cost of its components exactly

Just a quick correction: TAG and NARC don't work that way since the Lock-on-missile-rework. TAG and NARC apply their bonus only on mechs that you have no direct line-of-sight on. TAG on your own mech only makes ECM shielded/stealthed targets lockable as long as you have the TAG trained on them.

Thanks! Would have been nice of them to update the fracking tooltip ( still says "accelerates missile lock, keeps lock longer and increases missile accuracy.") I thought I remembered reading about the rework, and tried verifying it against the testing grounds, but as you can see it's hard to measure some things without capturing video, and that was more than I wanted to put into it. =D
