Why is the Search bar totally worthless?

Most forum search tools are worthless. My guess is they were written back in the old days of the internet, where folks assumed if you were on the forums, you knew regular expression syntax. You could quickly craft some entry filled with AND, OR, NOT to pick exactly what you wanted, with date limiters and all kinds of wild stuff.

With the advent of google, knowledge of that magic was lost, and forum search tools are useless.

Is there a thread with a guide that shows new players how to fight against certain mechs?

An example would be the Bushwacker. We played a match and one of them came in amongst half our team and wrecked two of us. He would NOT go down even though he was gettin pummeled by half our team. In another match I finally figured out how to take a really tough King Crab by sweeping its legs out from under it.

What are the rules regarding warhorns? Can they be freely swapped between mechs, removed with an MC penalty or are they permanently installed?

Unfortynately all the hitbox guides I know of are badly outdated. Bushwanker is notorious for being hard to kill unless you aim for the legs. King Crab is notorious for having hugr hitboxes that make it really easy to focus on whichever component is damaged.

Swapped freely. Once you own one, you can place it in any cockpit you want. And remove it and place it in another mech.

You can get reinforcements without getting the hero, as well as choosing to get the hero without getting the reinforcements.

Powered down mech can't be targeted unless player has BAP. Playing quick play Incursion game mode if the radar sweep gets powered up can you power down to avoid being spotted? Playing Faction Play if the tug-of-war bar allots the other side Radar Sweep will powering down prevent you from being picked up?

If I get what you are saying, the answer iirc is yes: powering down will mask you from the radar sweep in FP. I don't know for certain in incursion. Generally, it's Not Worth It compared to the time and distance lost, to say nothing of the chance a flanker finds you. It generally isn't terribly difficult to see that a mech out in the open s playing dead. And just because the enemy know where you are clustered doesn't mean they can or will do anything about it.

If you are an assault way out of position, a light might take that as an invitation to kill, in which case shutting down is hardly a good idea.

I've tried to hide from the radar in incursion near enemy base by powering down, and they found me. I think they got me with radar sweep but I can't be sure.

I didnt' have ECM and our team took a whole beating so it was my only chance to wait for them getting closer to our base, and them jump on theirs. I wasn't close to the turrets yet and I hid behind some ship where I had complete visual cover, so either they got me with the sweep or someone saw me go hide there. But then as I was looking at the enemies about 700-900 range Im sure some of them had LRMs and I wasn't being fired, so at least I was not targetted by some scout under ECM before I powered down.

ECM protected mechs can't been seen by the radar sweep on incursion, that I know for sure.

Just finished a game on Grim Plexus with my Stalker Misery. It felt like I was stumbling around over boulders and having to go around hills rather than up them. Will Hill Climbing help this? Even if it does, should I still put the skill points elsewhere?

1) Yes.

2) Matter of opinion. I would still generally say yes, because you should really be hitting all the heat containment and cool run nodes in that tree. Which means you will need to pick up a few other nodes... hill climb is (imo) more worthwhile than speed retention and gyro. Quick ignition is perhaps better than hill climb. Whether those are better than anything else depends on what other nodes you are or are not getting as a result, and your own play habits, etc.

hill climbing:

I think it does help somewhat, but I only have taken nodes which are required to take more important nodes. You should at least get 2 nodes from the normal amount of investment into operations tree to get the cool run and heat contaiment nodes up to half way.(up to cool run 3) If you really want to, you could take the third hill climb node as well since it's right next to it.

Now I don't know how much it helps actually as that's the standard amount I take on most every mech, so I have at least 2 of them from taking the heat management nodes.

What engine you have one the Stalker, most assults should run about 55 km/h to be functional in QP. For Stalker LFE 275 would be kinda minium. 275 spesifically gives you one extra heatsink slot, the next valid step is 300 with two slots. On some configs I've had the max 310, but I have only the energy&missile stalkers, Misery is quite a diffrent in that.

I'm not sure what all factors are involved with the hills. Locust can "nearly" climb direcly uphill but I'm not sure if it's entirely based on the weight of mech or does bigger engine help too. I have plenty of assults without JJs and I've not found Grim Plexus really difficult to climp those hills. IMO the worst map with rocks and stuff is the Canyon network, spesially with my Dire. It will get stuck on really small rocks, and it can't climb out from the small river on many places.

Hey,

I took three of the hill climbing nodes and she does seem somewhat more responsive. I should take her on Grim Plexus and see how she does on the hills.

My Misery has Std 300, 2xPPC, AC20 and MPL, and a bunch of double heat sinks.. Playing around with LFE300 would give me 2 more MPL, but fewer heat sinks. I could drop the PPC for ERLL, but like the PPC.

If you find yourself getting "stuck" on debris than Hill Climb will be helpful. Often times, Hill Climb is more helpful the heavier your mech's movement profile is. As such, you will notice more of a difference on your Stalker than, say, a Locust.

Are those ERPPCs or normal PPCs? If normal, have you considered upgrading them to ERPPCs and trying to use the LFE to get more heat sinks instead of additional weapons? Though, 2 PPCs an AC20 and 4 MPLs sounds like a hard hitting (if not hot) build...

One of the glories of this game is, give it a try. All it will cost you are some C-bills and some time. Even checking out new skill possibilities doesn't really cost you much, if you are willing to place the resources into it of course. So go and play around a bit. Experimentation is very important I find in this game.

I have updated mine to LE300, UAC20 and 3 LPL. Runs smooth.

Because you are IS (Davion) loyalist, and they allowed to pick IS only mechs in battle. Night Gyr is Clan mech.

Please stay away from Invasion till you get better in the game (learn different basic stuff). Join a unit and take some training, without this Faction Warfare would be nightmare for you and, more important, your team.
