With the anemic jump jets mechs are saddled with in MWO, a Cat with 4 jump jets would be hard pressed to climb the skyscrapers in the video, much less one with only 2. Bit of misleading advertising?

not at all, you only see it land with the toes! watch it again...

You generally need 2 JJs to get to get where you want to go (if you're using to to climb, that is).

A coral snake... Not king snake as you can see the red and yellow kill a fellow not red and black friend to jack.

For that?

Actually, yes, here is an explanation: The C1 has 4 energy, 2 Missile hardpoints. The C4 has 4 missile, 2 energy hardpoints. The A1 has 6 Missile hardpoilnts. So you'd get either 3E/3M, or 5M/1E, or 5E/1M. Those are so close to what we already have. I went with all Energy (another dev who plays Catas actually suggested the idea) and basically combined the C1 and the K2, gave it jumpjets, then went with a large max engine. It makes it flexible, and most importantly - different. I did NOT want to make just an existing loadout with shifted hardpoints.

Let's say I went 3E/3M - how different would that REALLY be from the C1, or C4? The Jester is kinda like a C1, with no missiles, but also like a K2 with no ballistics, but JJ's, etc.

In the end it's a layout that didn't already exist, is fun, and unique :)

While large engine and jumpjets make it viable, all-energy layout is kind-of limited in variety of things you can do with it. And with Jester costing almost as much as the nearing Saber package, it still may not be worth an immediate investment (unless one can painlessly afford both).

While I'll probably buy Jester eventually, I still think that you could have gone with 2M/2E/2B layout with iconic Catapult missile ears, and make it a win for everyone. :(

I had actually considered the 2/2/2 until I realsed: http://mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=66 You trade 2 missile HP's for jumpjets and a bigger engine.

I also completely disagree that 6 energy hardpoints is limited. Builds I made:

2x LL 4x ML
2x ERLL 4x ML
4x LL
4x ERLL
2x PPC 4x ML
2x ERPPC 4x ML
6x ML
6x MPL (it's a riot, try it out ;))
1x ERPPC 2x ERLL (This was bizarrely effective)
2x LPL 2x ML

And so on. There's a LOT you can do with it, especially with the extra AMS

I actually have several builds for the Jester I think would be a blast to play saved on Smurfy.

Unfortunately, until they fix the FSWG function they removed, I won't be buying the Jester.

Has anyone broken 700 damage in one? If so what was your load-out? I'm struggling to break 300 most matches.

A few times, using a XL350, 2 ERLL, and 4 ML build.

However, a more common result is 1-2 kills with 200-400 damage.

The challenge with this mech is that because it's so fast, you just want to brawl with it, but it doesn't have to durability for that (it's still a Catapult). So you need to be less aggressive and a bit more strategic to rack up huge numbers.

Yes.

http://www.freeimagehosting.net/wyc7c

Loadout:
 • 2x ER-LL
 • 4x ML
 • XL355
 • 2x JJ
 • 2x AMS (1 ton of ammo) / 2 DHS (not sure anymore)
 • many DHS
Usually get 300-500 DMG each match. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

While I would love a ballistic center torso point so I can mount a UAC5 for that A-10 Warthog look, it would be a bit powerful. Stick ballistics in the side and you have either a JJ AC40 cat or a JJ GaussCat plus LRMS or a couple Srm 6s.

The point is to have something *different*. It is not the point to have a dominant mech or a killer mech. I like it because it is weird and different.

Dual AMS is actually very nice. I like the extra module slot too.

I'm loving mine.

Sadly, UAC is 5 slots - so even if you had one- it wouldn't fit :P

Yes, Lasers seem to be the way to do. Overall I love all the ascetics of the mech, but like many others I find mechs that only run energy to be under-powered compared to missle or ballistic mechs. My A1 can break 500 just by emptying the LRM tubes, my C1 can use a LRM/PPC combo to smash through almost any ECM defense, but being out-alpha'd by a Hunchback really hits me in the feels.

The current state of PPC's is that of a secondary weapon. They don't do enough with the damage/heat for brawling, and they are completely out-classed long range by literally any ballistic weapon combo. So like everyone else seems to have found out, you go LL's first on this mech.

So what I'm saying is it's not the Jesters fault. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful mech in the game, and it's agility makes all those Jager slugs jealous. I even change it's colors every match to keep up with its personality, and if you own one, you must buy applejack blue (it glows on night maps). I hope PGI puts some thought into balancing energy weapons so that it's smile will become something people fear.

If they added two more laser hard points, at least then it would be able to compete with the Hunchback 4P
