You got cover
You got AMS
You got ECM
You got a visual and auditory warning system
You got spotty hit detection

LRM's are OP?

L O L

THIS.

I've been running a battlemaster with 4 LRM15 and 4 ML and it's been pretty effective but as stated above there are lots and lots of counters to it. And to be effective it takes more than just sitting on yer butt waaay in the back spamming missiles at targets you have no idea are going to be hit.

Those LRM Stalkers can't defend themselves. The other team wasn't paying attention.

Of course, LRM Boats are why you have working PPCs, DHS 2.0, and Gauss Rifles, but wait.. PPCs and Gauss Rifles kill mechs, we can't have that in MWO, it's that meta thing. These Mechs should all be sipping lemonade and singing old Mech Ballads, right? Therefore we should replace DHS 1.4's with lemonade coolers and LRM pods with lemonade squirters. :D

MOAR!

Spamming LRM-15s!
ROFLpult

ROFLwalker

Enjoy! (Reduced thresholds would stop this spam by reducing the potential of the ROFLpult by half, and thusly the performance of the ROFLwalker would be cut by close to half. So would reduced firing rates, but to make up for reduced firing rates, damage for the LRMs would have to raise.)

Your 6x LRM15 Catapult would have 2.5 tons of armor with 6 tons of ammo and a 225 XL, meaning it's a one shot kill for another heavy and a 2 shot kill for a Spider.

I can't play MWO for other players, but if someone shoots LRMs at you, you just duck behind something and check their loadout. If they are a boat and the map isn't Alpine they are dead even if they put more than two tons of armor on their mech. You just get withinn 180 meters and take them down while taking no damage from them. You could send Lights or even a fast Heavy. Every loadout has a weakness and a strength, but especially an LRM boat, and that Catapult with the 6xLRM15 you could bring down with 3 LRM5's, it's a joke.

250 XL and you can dig through videos, it sometimes takes heavy mechs up to 5 shots to kill it. It can and has taken a spider up to 2 minutes to kill. But that's all in where the armor goes.

This is an absolutely terrible, terrible build.

You know what else would stop it? Learning to kill these things.

I am absolutely not kidding when I say I can routinely obliterate these 'mechs in a Shadow Hawk with a third the missiles routinely.

Of course. But the point is it's a joke build, kid. Ever tried having fun?

Counters to one LRM boat is different then counters to 4 or 5 on a single team, and I think that is the whole point of "LRM's are OP". They need a damage nerf because they are overpowered in large batches. Pack to Awesome 8R's in a 12 man team and watch death fall from the sky, I have seen Assault Mech's die in about 4 salvos from two of those things thanks to the OP advantage that is UAV.

I think this thread has run its course. Lrms are not the flavor of the month in any way shape or form.

I run 4 LRM 15's and 4 Medium Lasers in my LRM boat Stalker and I have no problems defending myself.

I just did a drop that had two Atlast D-DC, two Catapult A1's (both running two 15's and two 10's) and two Stalkers with dual LRM 15's. Thankfully more then a few on my team had AMS, but we had no ECM cover. It was still annoying having several Mech's trying to LRM you into the ground even with multiple AMS coverage.

And if they were all HGNs you'd have died very quickly rather than being "annoyed".

Yes everybody has games like this sometimes but that still doesnt mean they are flavor of the month.

Conversely, I was in a game last night where a 4xAC2 CTF-4X scored 1300 damage, 8 kills, 3 assists, and took no damage themselves. They were so far away and the 4xAC2's were so stealthy I don't think anyone even saw them. LRMs can't do that and are harder to use than AC2's at 1000 meters. Anyway, there is a long range weapon comparison that humbles any LRM boat. You can't duck an AC2 and with an LRM at that range you have about 5 seconds to get behind something and you see the shooter instantly.

As for Stalkers, they have always had superior CT hitboxes compared to other assault mechs. We'll see how they fare after the hitbox rebalancing, but they are granted alot of long range toughness at the moment which should not be confused with LRM abilities. The Awesome can technically run large LRM launchers more effectively (firing single volleys of 60 missiles or more) than the Stalkers, but I don't see a sudden Awesome revival out there.

Be glad that the A1s couldn't build - they'd have been better off with two 20's & two 5's to avoid ghost heat.

A 50 missile Alpha is a waste of ammo no matter what the configuration. Just chain fire whatever you got, keep em in pairs, and suffer no GH penalties.

Perhaps my reading comprehension is failing, here.

What I'm reading seems to suggest that you believe that if 4-5 Heavy/Assault mechs focused on a single target can kill it quickly, their weapons need to be nerfed. You wouldn't really say something that absurd, would you?

You're wrong. There are reasons to alpha, despite GH. Not always, but if you think the answer is "just chain fire," then you know little about the proper use of missiles.

I have zero problems endorsing joke builds.

I do have problems with bringing joke builds as evidence to a conversation like this.

Chain fired LRMs are AMS fodder.

You can run up to 60 missiles on the right Catapult WITHOUT Ghost Heat (20x20x5x5x5x5), but you are better off with 20x20x5x5+TAG+Artemis any day of the week.

Chain firing them is still an awful idea if you encounter AMS though. You can ONLY afford to do it on unprotected targets.

Also ALL of those configs are better than 6xLRM5. That config is really terrible and it's popularity is baffling. All noise and thunder and no results.

I disagree.

Obvious elephant in the room: ECM.

Oh, but didn't PGI fix ECM? Nope, they didn't. They just made a few changes that made LRMs less relevant and ECM not as big of an issue. But after several nerfs to direct fire weapons, people are bringing out their LRMs again and people are starting to remember why ECM was such a big issue.

If you find yourself and your teammates being destroyed by LRMs, have a quick look around and see how many ECM mechs are nearby. The Raven 3L on your team has been replaced by a JR7-F, the Cicada has been replaced by a Blackjack or Shadowhawk and the Atlas DDC is probably replaced by a Highlander or Battlemaster. Your ECM Spider is probably on the other side of the map, instead of giving ECM cover to your team.

Teams that still rock the ECM are doing fine. Teams that are dominated by Phoenix package builds are being pummeled by LRMs. How many people are actually using the dual AMS builds these days? Atlas K? Nope. Stalker 5S? Nope. Locust 5M with dual AMS? Nope. Jester? Maybe 25% of the Jesters I've seen have dual AMS.

Give me two teams that both have LRM boats, while only one team has decent ECM cover. 9 times out of 10, the team with ECM wins.

i still use my atlas K linebacker with just 2 LL 2 ML and an ac20 standard 350 and 2 AMS 2 tons of ammo, wonderful mech for the push to win ;).

sold my stalker 3S when i picked up misery sigh....lol, one of the worst things i did, i will still probably buy it back sometime. :(

would get the jester if it had more JJ, i already have every other pult and i need my JJ lol .

lol those stalkers are offensive. He actually shot that locust.... why did the locust not go under the tunnel? I stopped even bothering to shoot at light mechs with LRMs cause they did about 10% hit. Is this the bad hit reg people talk about or was i shooting at players with a clue?

Its hard hitting lights (with lrms) due to their speed, everybody knows that.
