@ Modo44: As a statistic: I run the X 5 as a C Bill Grinder, and compared the effectiveness in terms of that to average player C Bill earnings as posted by PGI at one time. (Ie I multiplied roughly 81K (?) by 1.3 to get expected average earnings for a Hero

Turns out that on average my X 5 earns 31% LESS than it should, all things being equal or "average" statistically. Just from feel my Impression is I had the same Problem with my Flame, whereas my Jenner earnings seem to be on par for an ELO within the first standard deviation. (Guessed). Which at the least might mean that skill and experience are far more important to earnings than running a Phoenix or Founder or Hero.

So think about it

Umm...I think you are missing a few points. One is that is the average c-bills earned likely includes players who use Hero mechs. Also, is the X-5 a good mech for earning C-bills? If the answer is no, then you are getting a bonus to a sub-par reward, thus likely to remain sub-par. It still means you are getting more C-bills than you would with out the bonus.

It really sounds like you are saying it's not fair that the Atlas pilot gets more C-bills for damage done than you since you have a Hero mech and should be making more since you have a bonus.

haahaha what??? lol, the Shadow is easily one of the best mediums going.
Large Engine cap? Check.
5 tons more armour than most mediums? Check.
a veritable shitload of weaponry? check.
all 3 weapon variants? check.
Jumpjets on all variants? check.

skill or no skill that mech is boss.
Further more some variants have a shield arm. in fact, a StandardHawk 2d2 is an EXCELLENT zombie mech.

i really havent a clue wtf your talking about.

Edit; Directed at Jonal, for being ********.

if PGI knows anything, it is changing the meta to concur with mech releases. See final sales of ILya and Firebrand before UAC debuff. See release of kintaro goldenboy with srm improvements. See release of Victor, shadow hawk, Highlander and others under the Poptart meta.

Something will change in the days before the saber pack comes out, never you fear the people still spending money on this game are rewarded at all times. It is us dumb **** who are insistent on content before cash flow that get screwed. Ah well, Enjoy your sabre packs. I wish I had gotten a refund on Project phoenix (only the second time I plugged this with cash), that way I would still, maybe, have something to look forward to in this game in the next few months (instead of just being intimately aware that no changes or content of interest will be in game till march/april). No, hero mechs and champions are not worth looking forward to, neither are newly imbalanced maps at a snails pace, or the same 8v8, oops 12v12 death match we have been playing for the last 18 months.

Welp, Archtype, let's hope they don't do something crazy like a Highlander with an AC/20, twin PPCs and a jumpjet as the next champion mech.

You ignore my point about early access, which is what the Phoenix/Saber package is mostly about. You also reinforce my "not superior mechs" point by comparing the results of hero variants of bad chassis with Cbill variants of good chassis. So think about it.

early access should mean we, threeish months after ordering, should have something to show for the investment in Saber. with no info from devs, it makes me wonder if they are even working on them? no progress, no potential release date, nothing. just "yup we took yo money. now sit and weep"
im as excited about it as not, but more than anything, i just want my mechs (crappy or not, meta or not) so i get what I paid for.

id have been happy with a mech every 3 weeks to month for the payout. up front was awesome for a week, like you said, and now, i only run the saber mechs when I feel like it, with no real draw to them.

Locust is still worthless to me b/c of the 150 kph max speed in game (if that mech specifically could break it, it would be better) then putting a km between you and the Lrm Boating enemies would be cake. getting and making a mad-grab knife strike at assaults and getting out would be easier. you'd have any defense against ballistics and could find cover fast enough to make missles less of a thing, even without AMS.
Also, I think most of this game is kind of ruined by the ability to hyper-customize your mech. it is fine to do with one, maybe -maybe 2- chassis, because an individual member of a House Company or Regular military force might get authorization and funding to make a special mech, but really, these things are designed to roll of the line with the weapons they have, end of story.

back th teh main point, though, i'd be perfectly happy if i knew for sure I was even getting the saber mechs before im grey in the face. Even if they just gave some kind of progress report, id be happy with that. it is the lack of info that is worrisome.
I think it would have been a better move if they released JUST the Phoenix variants out there with purchase, and gave the other two of each mech when the mech released, so you'd have had something to look forward to over time.
The whole thing was fairly poorly handled.

Actually the more I think about, the more I agree with the idea, that it would be a totally different game and probably somewhat cooler if we were more limited with the loadouts of the chassis. May be not to a degree when one is compelled to use the very standard stock variant, but close to it.

I'd love a stock (or semi-stock) only game, but it won't work in the current iteration of MWO. As long as you are mixing tech levels, you need to be able to modify your mechs to match. In a game where you can only take stock, mechs that include ES and DHS will be the only viable mechs - a basic SHS model will never be able to compete.

Time for me to float the "trial mech tournament" idea again? We haven't had a tournament or a challenge in months.

100 drops in a trial mech medallion?

A good player wont even shoot your "shield" side. Unless he thinks you have an XL wth an exposed torso.

No, but only because trial mechs are no longer stock mechs! Now you must distinguish and call it Stock Mech Tournament. That sounds like a blast!

On the "mixing the tech" - i unfortunately have to agree. It just feels like most currently run loadouts are heavily... mmm... pardon me... "overloaded" with firepower... It makes the game very dynamic alright, but in the same time every time you are making a bad decision - like to go around that corner and put yourself in the line of fire of 4 mechs - you pay for it instantaneously... or almost instantaneously. Lesser damage output would make you pay all the same but in the longer run.

Yeah, that's been the one thing that has really nagged at me. I look at the classic warhorse of my TT days - the Warhammer. 2 PPCs, 2 MLs, 2 SLs, 2 MGs, SRM6, on a 70 ton mech. With all of the weight saving and heat saving equipment we have, you can almost put that on a mech half the weight. I've run Ravens with twin PPCs on them - it just seems wrong.

Consider it a better Quickdraw that's smaller than a Highlander and isn't gimped with obscene movement penalties.

Sadly, we don't know if any of those fits other than possibly hardpoints (and the Quickdraw's flaws are not hardpoint related for the most part)

Think about it:
  • Speed should be similar (a little higher top range since the Griffin is 5 tons lighter but has the same max engine),
  • Max armor only 32 points less,
  • Hardpoints are similar in type/number (same as QKD-4G),
  • Max jump capacity is better (can carry 7 Jump Jets),
  • Visually it looks smaller (can't know for sure yet, but it's hard to imagine anything but an Atlas being a bigger target than a Quickdraw), and...
  • I'm anticipating it will fall into the "medium" category for movement penalties (unlike the Quickdraw, which is considered to be a Stalker variant for movement penalties).
