I don't think anyone can really compare a founders/phoenix purchase to a clan package purchase at this point. It is the difference between trusting someone BEFORE you learned that they outright lied to you about work they were doing and continuing to trust them AFTER you learn the truth.
This is indeed about trust. But why did you trust PGI for so long I suppose is the question at hand? Trust, at least from my perspective, is earned, not given. There are some developers out there who've earned the trust of their fanbase based on the quality of their previous products.
PGI was a gamble. I never heard of them before, and they didn't have as much experience in the industry. But it was MechWarrior, of course I was going to give some cash to see this happen.
By the time Project Phoenix came around, PGI had yet to earn my trust. I do enjoy the game play, but not enough to give more money yet, so I decided to wait and take the c-bill route.
After all this discussion, it's rare that something on the forums actually changes my mind. I came into this thread pissed off at both PGI and then the folks who bought PP because I had a feeling PGI would make a clan bundle sooner then working on the other stuff because of how much money PP came in, although I had anticipated maybe next spring, not setting a date this early. But now I feel bad for the folks who did purchase the first bundle because although I didn't trust PGI, some folks just really wanted this game to pan out. And yea, this new package is a bit of a slap in the face, for me mainly because this means PGI is going to spend a good part of next year implementing omnitech, attempting to balance it, etc.
But I can't join N.O.P.E., because I didn't get the chance to buy the classy Urbanmech last Christmas.... I am still a fanboy after all lol.
