Cyclone, one thing you and I agree on (among many) is that the immersive atmosphere is something PGI could do a great job of, should not be something they are scared to work really hard at(regardless of how they decide to implement Clan Tech), and will likely be integral to the success of the game!

Sure..Today i was dreaming about this.. Imagine you are in the Community Warfare tab of the game menu.. You are about to switch faction.. You click on "Clan Wolf".. A message pops up: "You are leaving the Inner Sphere, your home and your friends. The Clans are inhuman. They worship death itself. You will be remembered forever as a traitor to your family and your kin. The path to become a Clan warrior is not easy, especially for an Inner Sphere MechWarrior. Are you sure you want to do it?"
You click "Yes".. The screen becomes black for a few seconds.. and then you hear a familiar howl..

Not quite accurate, that opening is set in 3057, but you get the idea.

Because I do not expect to be playing MW:O much after July, I am foregoing any Clan packages. I can re-direct those potential funds to computer components or peripherals like a HOTAS setup and pedals or a newer video card.

(as an aside, I don't see how PGI is going to keep IS players from bringing Clan tech to a match against the invading Clans. It will just be Mektek's ladder leagues all over again.)

Of course, if there was a way we could avoid playing IS at all, say, in the Homeworlds vs our Clansmen trothkin, I might buy a mech or two.

They should not have allowed everyone to purchase ClanPacks if they intended to do this. That is central to why I doubt you see 12v12 reduced to 10v12. PGI simply chose a path that will not allow for it if they want to keep enough paying customers...and denying those that paid real money from using those items because they want to be IS is not the answer.

Flavor balancing will end up being the name of the game. It is merely a question of how many diehards the game loses over that issue that really comes up...and again, given PGI's clear goal of attracting a broader playerbase.....it is probably not an issue for them. What few diehards leave the game over this "final straw" will pale in comparison to those that elect to stay (since, hey...it's the only real MW title out right now) and the broader, casuals they attract.

And what will you do if the use of clan Mechs will be possible only when it reaches a fraction of the Clans?
Joining the Clan is not in the mercenaries - come and mercenary, is required to pass a test to prove their loyalty and usefulness of the clan!

if they kept with tonnage values as a balancer then you could designate the matchmaker to handle different scenarios such as a full 12 IS team being 950 tons and a "salvaged clan" team being 700 IS tons and 150 Clan tons against the full 550 clan 10 member team.

but of course balance rules over all gameplay experience so we're getting 3 of each chassis regardless of tech because each tech will be so simillar and any other factor like factions is mere pathetic decoration. no tactics or varience in team composition, you'll just have 3 of the best for all catagories on each side both using the same method over and over in deathmatch.

Sounds incredibly easy doesn't it? Yet, I believe that will be too complex for them to accomplish. They will struggle to balance Clantech at all as it stands. To determine the vagaries of tonnages vs tech as you propose....I will just patiently wait to see how they introduce all of this stuff and CW and worry about it then.

I doubt they do anything elegant at all, especially in the beginning.

lol we're talking about pgi, the kind of people who'll need months of persausion to acknowledge "perhaps we should change checkout to save and play now to launch" and then some more months to implement this change cause the UI is very difficult to work with. it will be YEARS before we get an immersive tab let alone an in game video representation of what the faction is about.

shame but true.

Why should MW:LL not be a real MW title? It was even developed with the official MW license..

It is only not considered a real MW title because said person never played it. :(

IT did actually have a non-profit license from microsoft to develop the mod. As for the second part, sadly, no. The Dev team was given a year to cram as much content as they could in to it, as the lead members of the team worked with Crytek and it was considered a conflict of interest.

They have people who want to develop it more, a couple of those people are in my unit. But alas, no work is being done on MWLL, aside from maybe some community made maps.

No "maybe". New maps have been created and some of them are really awesome.

Seriously,. New Roland is incredibly beautiful (quite more than Crimson Strait) and catches well the atmosphere of a Capellan city IMHO. A chinese-styled castle in the middle of a beatiful park, a parked dropship in the spaceport, a gym with a pool in which you can enter with a Battle Armor, parked Bushwackers, CBT illustrations placed in big screens on the skyscrapers, a not oversized HPG building, a different variety of building not getting boring to see.. These things are priceless. Play it an believe.

Ok, i went too far from topic i think lol.

I agree it had alot going for it. By just cements my point...not licensed (no longrr at any rate) and not supported. MwO remains the MW title for the forseeable future.

Only because it is mainstream and far more people play it.
Many refugees from MWO keep MW:LL alive :(

The clan mechs look awesome as expected, but once they are available for C bills, there will be no one left in the inner sphere for them to fight. The clans will take Terra in days with no loss of life except other clanners fighting each other.

You are quire mistaken, the Federated Commonweath will stand against the clans.

That being said, I want a Zeus, and a Bushwhacker, and a Champion, and both Crabs, and the rest of the unseen 'mechs and harmony gold can eat poison and die

I do plan on picking up some of my favourites though, Black Hawk, Mad Cat, Uller, Savage Coyote if it ever gets released, but only for C-bills

Oh I get it. You like to argue semantics instead of the point. MWLL is not licensed or supported. It is not advertized or monetized. It is fun in its own right but it is irrelevent to the discussion here. MWO remains the only relevent MW game on the market in regards to my point earlier (about how many lore hounds leave the game vice those that stay).

Were I incorrect in that comment, MWLL would have a much greater following than it does now.

And yet here are the majority of the lorehounds.....not MWLL.
