I'm not really a fan of the 1E either, I find that I am rarely able to make use of the 6th energy slot without running either too slow or too hot.

As such I stick to the 3M for it's superior torso-twist, and option to run dual AMS.

LCT-1E 6SPL is amazing.
A rapid-fire, short range, lightweight AC20.
Can fire all of them 3-6 times (depending on map) before overheating, or alternate 3's to extend the life of it. (Though generally, if you're sticking around long enough for it to be a problem.... what are you doing!?)

Congrats, you're like the 12th tallest dwarf of all time ;)

Speed is a beast tho. I was in his lance in a pug once, he got at least 4 kills in his Locust

On the 1E, I've been running it almost exclusively with 6 ML. I tried SPL but I get frustrated with range (dunno if I wanna drop 6 mill on the range and cooldown mods right now).

After about 70 games in, the 1E is my most highly damaging Locust, at an average of 354 per round. Man, if I can get that up to 400 I will be the king of midgets

LCT-1V
Loadout: ER Large + 4x MG
Matches: 14
W/L: 3.33 (wow)
K/D: 0.27 (lol)
Avg Dmg: 132.14

LCT-3S
Loadout: 4x SRM2 + MLas
Matches: 16
W/L: 1.29
K/D: 0.47
Avg Dmg: 159.56

LCT-1E
Loadout: 5x MLas (still too hot to secure kills AND do decent damage... I open up a lot of rear/side torsos/legs and lose the kill to kill snatchers )
Matches: 92
W/L: 0.88
K/D: 1.25
Avg Dmg: 271.92

GRF-1N (the other mech I'm playing in the chassis tournament, ranked at #37)
Loadout: 3x SRM6 + 3x MLas
Matches: 158
W/L: 1.45
K/D: 1.28

How in heck did you get an ER Large AND all four Machine Guns on that thing?

that's actually one of the "standard" builds. think you need a 170 engine and armor under 100 with FF/endo to make it work. the ERLL one that is- i used it for a while.

and the 1E i tried the ERPPC version with the xl 170 for a while but actually found i did better with a LPL and SL (had a spare half ton so figured why not). lose the range but can fire more often and heat's not as bad.

wanted to try out the Locusts for the contest but 1) i can usually only play fri/sat and was hanging around the top 10 in kintaros both days (was 10th when i stopped saturday ended up 35th overall with no further play after that), 2) vindicators were under represented so that was my next option and 3) i don;t use arty/airstrikes and i know of a lot of locust pilots do for contests so was never going to get close to the top.

Looks like I'm in the minority in that I like 5-6 M over 5-6 SPL. I'm willing to give them a try and work on it tho. I think the range module would help immensely as that as always been my main issue with SPLs. I just never have been comfortable with it and sometimes it's frustrating not to be able to poke and distract (and get assist insurance ;))

6SPL in a Locust (or jenner / firestarter) is pretty brutal.
You're basically in a light, going 150+, boasting a rapid fire, infinite ammo, double heat AC/20.

Apart from the overall range limitations, each is only slightly less damage than the MLas, with half the duration and less heat.
A mix of 4SPL and 2MLas could be interesting though tbh... (or even 2MPL instead)

Dont know about minority one just have to pilot it differently. Imo mlas is more universal build - with range and more volley damage, while with splas you shine if you have created opportunity and cant do **** if you haven't. More often than not i find myself on cant do anything part of the deal, so i usually go with mlasers.
Edit: plus i usually cant resist shooting ct back when hostile mech is facing me with it - hoping its too occupied to notice (dont happen very often). i know i should shoot leg intead so that i dont give enemy clear directional hint on where shooting is coming from, but just cant help it.

Today quirks for locust are published... Well it could have been worse - 1e gets small laser oriented quirks, 3m gets splas oriented quirks - so using mlasers on any gives one only half of benefits from quirks.
3m ofc gets better part of the deal (with cooldown bonus), since heat dissipation on small lasers for 1e - wtf? i think it would make more sence to give it range for small lasers and heat generation for med (if we are looking at canon variant, but i dont know why we should)

Quick review of the Locust Quirks now they've fixed the post:
Locust 1E - Tier 4 Brawler

I doubt it will though.
I'll try it with 6SL instead of 6SPL, but I think that SPL may still be better.
Can still run it with the SPLs and just have +30% and -10% though, rather than +60%, -20%.
Should still simply improve the build I already run regardless.

Locust 1M - Tier 5 Skirmisher
(2E, 2M - common loadout 2 ML/MPL, 2SRM2/SSRM2)

It'd be nice if this covered Medium Pulse aswell, but like the 1E it's doubtful.
The missile ones are a nice overall boost, and even using Pulse It'll still just improve my standard build.

Locust 1V - Tier 5 Support

This... makes no sense.
The ERLL build is a rarely used build, and has no relation to it's stock build or purpose either.
With an ERLL, you can either fit:
An XL190 and no other weapons.
-or-
An XL170 with 2MGs and a half ton of ammo (need to drop some armour too)

+50% to cooldown, -25% duration and +15% range isn't bad for the ERLL, but... a sniping weapon on a mech that dies when it stops moving?
I feel this is the first real miss in the locust quirks.

Locust 3M - Tier 4 Brawler
(5E - Common loadout mixed Small and Medium lasers)

Overall the boosts seem fine, just the 3M and 1E should switch quirks, and I don't know what's going on with the 1V...

so the 3M is getting quirks for small pulse laser with range and cooldown bonus
but the 1E is getting standard small laser quirks with range and heat bonus

do you think standard small lasers could actually be viable on the 1E ??
or will you locust pilots just stick with 6 spl on the 1E regardless

sweet! more range and less heat for my 1E....perfect...

and with the TAG bonuses...the LRMCust it a lot fun. Sadly 2 tons of ammo doesn't go far but I'll take 250k bills for 7 assists, 1 component, and 175 damage.

keep running out of ammo but I just keep on tagging

maybe they figure 6SPLs would be too much for the E heat/wt wise so they gave it SLs which would fit a bit better at max slots. then with 1 less slot in the M and not wanting to repeat the E quirk they gave it the SPL one?

Like I said, I'll try it with 6SL.
I think I have 4-8 of them anyway, so it's less than a matches worth of C-Bills to try it (even if I needed 6).

If it isn't as good, I'll switch back to SPL and take the half boosts.
