Just got the pirate's bane today! Really like it!

It is a really nice mech. I have tried a couple builds on it (2ml & 2 sl right now). But so far the 4sl & mg's that come on it have been the best for me. :)

I wonder how 2MPL, 2mgs would be on the pb.

I'm running 2ml and 2flamers so the damage profile should be very similar, bar the distance. I have a lot of fun with it as an interceptor, swarming the enemy once they have engaged. Prior to that point, I'm a jammer and AMS bot. I've been thinking of crit not build (2mg, 3 flamers and ML and drop AMS). Should at least be a fun build.

Now my question-how do you survive the trench maps? The Canyon map just cramp my style because if I'm inside of the trench, there is simply nowhere to zigzag, and I take massive damage. The nastiest thing is that I can't even flank the enemies because I can't cross the lanes. And if I do, the enemy lights (or even medium with jump jet) can really stick on my heels.

Hmm... Would be interesting same damage output as 4sl, 2 mg but you get the added range of the mpl, but pay for it with 2 extra tons of weapons...I can't recall how small laser duration/cool down compares to mpl so I dont know which has the advantage there. But I wonder if you are going to run that much weight if you wouldn't be better off going full knife fighter with 4spl and 2 mg.

Locusts are light enough that you can just run up most of those slopes, no jump jets needed!

Just had one of the most exciting matches of my MWO career.

Frozen City, Assault: After a prolonged battle along at the crashed dropship myself and a badly damaged Stalker are left facing off against 2 reasonably fresh Mad Cats. We fall back towards our base intending to use turrets and the surrounding buildings for cover. The first Mad Cat charges in recklessly fixated on the stalker. I fall in behind him and blow off his right shoulder before the arrival of his partner forces me to break off.
The 2nd Mad Cat pursues me deeper into the buildings that surround our base but gets distracted by our turrets. I loop around behind him and take his leg. With one Mad Cat out of the fight, at least for a moment, I double back to meet up with the Stalker. He goes down but not before doing significant damage. I finish off the crippled Mad Cat and then go back to find the one that I had legged earlier. I find him attempting to cap our base and proceed to play "hide-and-seek" with him, whittling down his remaining leg. Sadly the final killshot went to a turret.

The question is not "where can I zigzag?" it is "how can I zigzag without accidentally running off a ledge and breaking my legs repeatedly as I shoot over the hills and through the woods like an NES dirt-bike game on speed?" Seriously, you just fly over those hills when you have max speed.

Holy CRAP! That match was so freaking GREAT! An absolute nail-biter!

Seriously. We were down to my KTO-18, Catra's Stalker, and Hlynka's Locust, when I bought it via one of the Mad Cats in about B4 or so I think, as I was trying to fall back to the base. Spent rest of the match glued to Catra and Hlynka's screens alternating.

Catra was missing I think at LEAST one side torso, and both arms, and had BRIGHT glowing red torsos remaining. No weapons left but a single SRM6. Shutdown hiding behind our base to try to preserve the win for us (the absolute right move based on the condition of the mech, 07 Catra).

Hlynka was circling in and out of the buildings around our base. I warned him off of the first Mad Cat since I noticed it was all Streaks (Locust Death Magnet ;) ), and he really skillfully circled around and got the other one, which was more LRM based, while it was trying to take out our turrets.

Catra couldn't see what was going on, and I think because it seemed hopeless, opted to try to do whatever possible to support Hlynka, and powered-up, JUST before Hlynka killed the other one, I imagine hoping to get a few SRM volleys or what-have-you in.

Hlynka took off running at that point since we were up 10-11, and headed for the downed dropship in the center, but it was too late, the other Mad Cat had noticed Catra, and all it took was one volley. I know everyone still watching HAS to gave been on the edge of their seats, at least I know I was.

I think the clock was down to what, 35 seconds or something at that point, and it looked probably hopeless. But then, BAM, our turret nailed him.

What a match. Glad there's a screenshot of that one.

07 Blue team, especially you and Catra!

I ran some matches with the fall damage module, for the exact reason you note above.

It actually seemed to be pretty useful believe it or not. Pretty sure it'll be a permanent addition to my loadouts when I unlock that last module slot.

How do you guys play the 1V.

I love the 1E, play it as a SL-boat. Works better than I thought it would.
I made a Streakcust with the 3S and go hunting other lights. Not as good as the 1E but I had some good matches.

But I completely fail to find a usefull build for the 1V. I tried 1 MPL + 4 MG and 1 ERL + 2 MG and only 1 ERL. The problem is that MGs really suck for hit and run attacks, because you got to keep them on target. And staying close to the target always gets me killed. And only one ERL is not really usefull.

What is your experience with the 1V?

I already thought about selling it and getting the 3M instead.

I really like the 1V.

I run the MPL+4MG version and the ERLL+2MG version. (I actually have 2 1Vs so I can run both without bothering to switch)

I run both as agressive harrassers, making swift passes, usually firing the MGs and laser constantly as soon as in range, make a partial circle, then disengage, generally putting an extra shot or two into them as I go.
Don't sweat focusing one part with the MGs, just supplement damage against the laser targets best you can.

- Also, really, why sell? just get both. :D

I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here by saying the Locus is highly overrated.

If we were able to bring 12 Locusts (240 tonnes) into CW, then the mech would be viable even without quirks.

I've just mastered my 4th Firestarter and find haven't met even one Locust that was a threat to me. I had some tough fights against Jenners and Spiders, as well as Ravens (well, Huggin mostly).

Lucust is a free frag for me. Just yesterday I one-shotted a fresh Locust using 5xMPL. It has a huge CT that easily takes damage. Having said that I've just bought 3 of them little buggers on sale. They are so cute I enjoy just looking at them in the mechlab :-)
