Chainfire is go! It resets the timer, but also resets the heat buildup scaling on the enemy side. Not that the scaling on the enemy side even matters all that much; when the base value is +4.5, and the scaling is between 0.0 and 0.5, it's almost always preferable to reset your own heat scaling.
That was exactly what I was thinking, hoping, and anticipating. Great news for my 3M!
/edit: Tests seem to prove this false. I experienced increasing heating per second under chain-fire both during live-fire trials and testing ground experiments. Looks like I'll just have to get used to letting off the gas.
Do multiple flamers stack for heat applied on target? I'm trying to get testing grounds 'Mechs to overheat and failing, but I'm not sure if heat just isn't measured for them, or if the flamers still have the upper limit to heat they'll put a target at, or they don't stack and that allows the stationary 'Mechs to cool faster than one flamer heats, or some other thing I have failed to think of yet.
/edit: Further testing has revealed that the 90% limit is still in place. Also that 12 flamer Novas are very funny, but bad for match score due to low damage.
