My final match with the wonderful Tagmaster 1M turned into one of the funnest matches I've ever had. A good salute to a build I didn't get to use long but that I'll definitely miss.

SNIPPED go read the OP as it was worth the read

Definitely a good sendoff. Thanks for the build, Fox.

the 1m tag was not well known but it was great while it lasted

goodbye littlest tagger #neverforget

Flamer Lolcust LCT-1E is go.

XL190, 5 SPL, 1 Flamer.

And so is Flamer Lolcust LCT-3M

XL190, 4 SPL, 1 Flamer.

With the updated visuals, you won't blind yourself running the flamer on the 3M either. Makes it all that much better.

You won't blind them either.
Nor does it look like a flamer anymore. :(

I need to try em out in a live environment, but atm, I am sorely dissapointed with my forays in the training ground.

In a 1v1 light duel, it jams up their guns so quickly it's not even funny; you don't even need the visual blinders any more. Go against an ACH and see if he can alpha more than once before subjecting himself to an easy cockpit kill.

Additionally, is the chain-fire test a go or no-go? Anybody tried it yet?

Chainfire is go! It resets the timer, but also resets the heat buildup scaling on the enemy side. Not that the scaling on the enemy side even matters all that much; when the base value is +4.5, and the scaling is between 0.0 and 0.5, it's almost always preferable to reset your own heat scaling.

That was exactly what I was thinking, hoping, and anticipating. Great news for my 3M!

/edit: Tests seem to prove this false. I experienced increasing heating per second under chain-fire both during live-fire trials and testing ground experiments. Looks like I'll just have to get used to letting off the gas.

Do multiple flamers stack for heat applied on target? I'm trying to get testing grounds 'Mechs to overheat and failing, but I'm not sure if heat just isn't measured for them, or if the flamers still have the upper limit to heat they'll put a target at, or they don't stack and that allows the stationary 'Mechs to cool faster than one flamer heats, or some other thing I have failed to think of yet.

/edit: Further testing has revealed that the 90% limit is still in place. Also that 12 flamer Novas are very funny, but bad for match score due to low damage.

Yeah I think the problem lies in how they've changed the heat mechanics for flamers. Just did live-fire testing again, my problem was that I only ever used a single flamer to do this with, hence why I never really observed an increase in heat (as it used to).

That being said, if you are going to use flamers - put them all on one component. Once a flamer gets destroyed, it's marked as not in cooldown, and that causes the 'heat timer' to keep ticking. Eventually, just tapping any flamer will cause you to immolate yourself :/

One nice thing about this though. You can have two-man hit squads of lights. Bring two flamers and rest SRM6 or other massive-burst-damage weapons. Locate enemy, shut them down to 90%, and just smash their faces in. It's extremely potent.

Got an upgraded machine, upped my graphics settings, and I'm now running at 40+ fps. It's like a different game. Even my damage numbers have almost doubled

I sooo need to do this. My computer has been "spiking" down to 7 or 8 fps randomly for the past month or so, but I never get above 20 or 25 fps. I know I miss shots/die often because I can't track targets very well at that rate.

yep a new machine is in my future. this 5 year old toaster is just not cutting it. i do believe it is one of the reasons i am so low in the tier 5, well that and i like non meta builds, going beserk, making bad position mistakes and many more stupid things i do. but for right now i am going with 5 year old toaster with inter graded graphics Posted Image

That is a really bad bug. Posted Image

Also, that describes my first couple of flamer matches pretty much perfectly. I'd heat them up, and a nearby friendly ACH would light them up.

I'm planning to try a Dragon Flame with AC 20 and 2 flamers next.

Question for fellow Locust enthusiasts:

In light of the range nerf what are you doing with your 3Vs?

Not there yet, just not sure what the point of the variant is now that it is essentially quirk-less.

Yeah, without the range quirks there is nothing special about it. The PB and 1v make it completely redundant and it isn't the tankiest locust anymore either which was its real selling point for me. I suppose an ac2 troll build is an option.

Its either an ac/2 with a half ton of ammo (I'm not stripping it) or embrace the troll and pathetic remaining quirks and do 2 MG and 2 tons of ammo (as if you will ever burn through it), 2 flamers...and maybe a beagle or AMS? Then hang out by the fatties and try to heat up and crit whatever they are engaging?

That's about all i can think of.
