Yeah. And I hope it's that (or some XP/loyalty/c-bill granting thing). It just sounds ishy.

PGI has been pretty good about avoiding P2W scenarios, in fact, that's one of the few things that even the harshest critics can grant them.

Didn't PGI say in the past that they would end up making some new mechs of their own?

That would be pretty darn controversial...

While that would be controversial, I've heard nothing to confirm that. I'm inclined to not believe it, as if it were true someone would have been on these boards blowing their lid over it the second it was even hinted at.

Indeed. And it's a very good thing that I'd hate to see get messed up.

I'm just concerned by the language. OTOH, they proved they don't know what "exclusive" means with the Flame/Hotrod pattern, so maybe they don't know what "unique" means either.

I thought the "exclusive" pattern was supposed to be the (P) paint job?

The "flame" (now "hotrod") was also listed as "exclusive" as the final loyalty award.

It really was a tempest in a teapot and not a big deal, just careless enough that I am always cautious of believing too much in the precision of their words.

Fingers crossed for Powerman.

SECONDED

You could pick up your buddy's mech (with all the armor on the front), carry it around.

Like some kind of f**ked up Voltron

One of the Phoenix promotions was if the limit was reached, an 'exclusive' Flame camo pattern would be given to the phoenix mechs... this wording was changed just before thier release to include the Hot Rod pattern as they decided they'll rename it and then release as the month's camo. Whilst phoenix mechs got Hot Rod for free... it was never exclusive...

I'm still laying odds on the Javelin, although the Firestarter could be interesting...

To answer those asking where '35 tons' comes from - it was stated by either Bryan or Russ on NGNG #99 or #100, respectively. Give 'em a listen if you have the time. (80% sure it was the former.)

The Venom or Eyrie is my best guess.

The Eyrie would certainly be controversial!

I'm willing to bet it's "Grinner", The 35 ton Wolfhound that Phelan Kell of the Kell Hounds (later Phelan Ward of Clan Wolf) piloted when his unit (and the Inner Sphere as a whole) made first contact with the Clans.

Yeah, probably, to drive interest in the clan mechs. If it's a clan hero light, that means no engine changes, right?

Misery was released before ghost heat was implemented, the ilya had been the only mech that could even run 3x UAC5s for the longest time, and the Flame has a better hardpoint spread than the DRG-1C.

The Wolfhound isn't an Omnimech, so the Omni restrictions probably wouldn't apply to it.

It isn't an Omni. Which means if they bring out Grinner with clantech they will be making some decisions on how clantech meshes with non-omni mechs. ANother thing that would make it controversial would be if they did go clantech with it this far before the actual release of the clan packages would be, well, just releasing it so far before the clan packages. And having gear that, as far as we know, would only be equip-able on this mech until the rest of the clan mechs go live. Not to mention it would trigger the first credible P2W accusations for the game.

Releasing Grinner with clantech would be a massive poop storm. Releasing it without will have purists nerdraging everywhere. No good could come of it.

The wolfhound was a clan rebuild of an IS mech... so... maybe that's why controversial? And "Grinner" had clan weapons as well as ECM (at least according to the novels, need to go check sarna) so... clan er mediums and ecm! I can see it being as hated as a spider.

AH I was just reading the blood of kerensky trilogy, I was fixating on the post-capture grinner...
pre capture... doesnt sound as exciting.

NGNG Podcast 100 : https://soundcloud.c...00-russ-bullock
Start at the 26 minute mark.

After Jessica says she wants a kitty.

One of the guys says it'll be 35 tons but Russ never says what the tonnage is.

Dun! Dun! Dun!

35 tons really narrows down the possible options- there just aren't that many of them at this point in time produced.

Firestarter has the variants sufficient for MWO alone.
