35 tons really narrows down the possible options- there just aren't that many of them at this point in time produced.

Firestarter has the variants sufficient for MWO alone.

So does the Panther, but it was also stated to not be the Panther.

Misery was released before ghost heat was implemented, the ilya had been the only mech that could even run 3x UAC5s for the longest time, and the Flame has a better hardpoint spread than the DRG-1C.

Yet how many of these do you always see running around? I have not seen a Marmoset or a Flame for months. And only see the misery every now and then.

Must be low ELO. I see Ilyas every single game.

So... ok I figured it out.

Why is it controversial? There's only a single MC variant for it, with zero C-Bill counterparts.

Its a 35ton redesigned Urbie!

It's something I won't buy until it goes on 30% discount... whatever it is.

I had hoped they would be flashing the "Comming soon to the mechlab" promo on the front page by now, but no such luck.

Pgi only has two types of press release:

1: LOL OMGWTF WAY TOO EARLY

2: Day-of-release

I'm mediocre and I see Ilya's pretty often. In fact, the only CTF I don't see at least a few times a week is the 2X.

Ditto. Now if I saw a game without a Cataphract, that would be remarkable.

 bryan in pod 94 around 32:40 mins. Controversial, specialty mech.

Russ in pod 100 26:30 Russ says its a new new mech and when the lady cut him off with "chassis" he said it was "DOPE!' But he didn't think it was controversial.

None mention 35 ton. Although ANY 35 ton would be controversial. and Fire starter would be a "flamer specialist" and not so controversial.

Urbanmech is controversial, specialty and "dope". Also the subject KILLER with the Russ Podcast was the mention of Urbanmech. <_<

Now some tweets from Russ said he was playing the the new hero: "I was playing the new her mech of the new light chassis today. I think this chassis in general is going to be very popular"

That can be a Urbie killer.....unless Russ is a good pilot.

ECM on a hero wouldn't be "pay to win". It's a ridiculous notion, as if the mere presence of ECM guarantees victory.

I have no idea why the collective group of angry whiners chose ECM as their personal "pay to win" threshold, but quite frankly these people need to get over it and move on. ECM isn't nearly the OP boogeyman that some people continually make it out to be. It's just another piece of gear that has a bunch of hard counters.

What's the source for 35 tons?

I'm actually hoping it's the Mongoose. While it had digitigrade legs (one of the few BT chassis that do), the profile is generally humanoid. It has a decent weapon loadout, is very fast and comes with good stock armor.

At least three variants could be made fairly easily, like a MON-66 with four energy hardpoints and the ability to mount GECM (borrowed from the -76 variant which can't be incorporated due to MASC), a MON-68 with four energy hardpoints and one missile hardpoint, and a MON-70 with five energy hardpoints.

It would be a nice bridge between the high speed and light armament of recon 'mechs like the Locust and Spider, and more heavily armed light strikers like the Raven, Jenner and Commando.

ECM is quite possibly the single most powerful piece of equipment in the game, especially for the tonnage. It's not exactly a surprise that the most highly favored variants of every mech that has an ECM variant is the ECM variant. Overpowered? I'm not sure I'd say that, but it rides the curve mighty hard.

I'd thought of the Hermes, but it's going to be hard to fill variants without MASC.
