I'm really diggin the turrets, I really think they should be implemented on more maps, with varying density of placement.

So then, maybe I am not used to the new UI yet. maybe it is not finished yet.

Right now, the new UI is a mind bending mess in a spaghetti strap dress.

it is not intuitive. At all. I have been playing for a long time and know what I am looking for, and it is a PITA to find it. I can not imagine a new player thinking

"Yeah first mech(if they can find the one they want to buy) time to put a bigger engine in!"

goes to loadout

CT selected, engine tab.

"holy wall of text! look at this solid block of copy pasta'd engine graphics with tiny text next to each one! Wait I thought I bought a Xl300. scroll, scroll,......XL300....hmm, maybe I equipped it already."

I personally have 70+ mechbays. Going to select mech at home page, without a filter on it, is a waste of time. Not only is the massive blob of stock painted mechs hard to look at with all the tiny text on them, but they arent in any order as heroes got seperated, champions did, pheonix did, etc, and the rest are not in any kind of alphabetical or otherwise order.

I feel that applies to the store too. If you are a n00b, and want to browse the available mechs, would you be applying filterls left and right? no, you would just want to look. And what a huge blob to look at.

I guess I thought we would see tabs for weight, but then all variants sorted by chassis. Even if chassis had it's own tabs.

Maybe I will get used to it. but PGI, you need to figure out how to organize it better. Every page/tab is a massive blob of small pictures with even smaller text in the picture. Hell I had to squint to see what variant of battlemaster I was selecting before a match, sure cant just look at the paint in the thumbnail to tell.

overall, I give UI 2.0 a "C-" not as good as average, but a solid effort and functionality is there despite having to look for everything way to hard. If you guys can organize it with more menu tabs, or better tab/page transitions or even just color schemes so they dont all look the freegin same, I would up it to B-.

I agree with other about the blue. it looks nice, but grey/reddish, green like MW2 and MW3 pc titles would be better.

Also, some nice uber Sci-Fi computer blips and beeps(see same games) for mouse function would be better. We arent playing I-Battletech. Its merc corps stompy robots massive scale civil war future style. MW3 green style with monitor lines in it is much better then cool-blue soft sounds like the interface was taken out of Portal. Theres no soft-white egg shaped mechs with a polite womans voice in Battletech.

I just had this thought, know what would work better for mech selection and store? if you had ONE picture, a little bigger maybe, of the chasis. thats it.

Then, you say "hmm that stalker looks neat-o!" and click the stlaker pick.

Then, it goes to a new page with the stalker variants in a row. No, seperation by hero/champion/whatever. Just a list of ALL the variants, hero and otherwise, maybe in a standardized order, like

Hero Champion A B C D ETC (or better make it verticle instead of left to right blob, see below)

This would certainly reduce clutter, and make the filters more effective at it also. Only mediums? Ok here is the list of chassis(what is there 6 now?) instead of every variant of every chassis in a mega blob.

Better yet, dont even just put the 6 chassis in mediums in a left to right blob. Put them in a column, with a verticle scroll on the right if they dont all fit on a page. EASIER TO LOOK AT because: all of internets is like this(see, every search engine results ever) and thus more intuitive.

FYI.. If any of you guys are getting the game locked in connecting screen.... The game doesn't like any modifications to the system.cfg file now. For instance changing your field of view. run the repair tool and it stops this crashing in the connecting screen.

I really love the new UI. Obviously as has been said multiple times it needs work.
The social button needs to move or be on always. Maybe put on the right side of the screen and enlarged
Closing the social menu should be easier (maybe two places? or always on?)
There should be a ready button somewhere other than under the social menu for a group.
Saving your mech should not be a "checkout" button. I was trying to modify my mech and found this un-intuitive.
The tool tip should pop up more quickly OR it should be displayed in the side info like the other stats - at least your weapon loadout.
The filter button should be enabled pretty much everywhere. (especially in the engine list)
Alphabetize mechs? It would be nice to have sort order.
Remove trial mechs from owned. (Available as a filter maybe?)
*Request: Would appreciate seeing the speed of speed tweaked mechs shown with a different color or something to let you know it is showing you speed tweak speed. I was looking at my mech and I was used to it NOT displaying my speed tweak max speed but was surprised when it showed it.

Other than some bugs in game- mechs not being targetable/lockable or some odd ghosting, overall its a great step forward.
Thanks guys!

ok so a few hours into the new interface ...

My Thoughts are quick and simply ...what where you smoking? The sad part is... the senior staff though this was good.

Reasons for that rather brash comment:

1. From the main selection screen I cannot see what modules are on a mech. That renders that screen useless.

it does not matter that you put all that useless info on there, it does not matter how many hours you spent coding it ...it does not tell me the one thing I need to know... is it battle ready? if I cannot make that determination from that screen.....get rid of the screen its useless. or fix it. and get rid of the useless fodder someone thought was cool to put on there.... that's the crap you bury 4 menus down under additional info some where. all it does is take up valuable space and make the text font smaller on the real information we need to see.

2. unbelievably painful to hunt down a module now. See above.

That's it thanks for all hard work. Lesson here....My dad taught me this years ago ... if your going to do some thing, do it right the first time. No one wants to pay twice for one job. This will have to get redone ... fixed. So who is paying for this twice?

1.5 years ... umm PGI help me out here... how do you spell embezzlement?

Are you kidding me?
You developers actually play your game (not just for QA), right?

I won't go on about how bad the U.I. is now or how obstructive you've made the mech lab. Everyone can clearly see that already and personally I can't imagine you guys to be unaware of how bad this is.

On that note, please just fix it?

A reminder, the only way to find an engine is to click each 'mech that is capable of moving and then hit Configure -> Loadout, check the engine, then hit Back -> Back.

For those of us with 30-60+ 'mechs, welcome to the 9th level of hell.

okay i like that ui2 has been released and as of now im yet to see any technical problems with it (except for lots of crashes anyway  )

but there are things i miss or dont like in there so here it is:

1.Store
- well there are no filters to speak of in there 119 mech variants isnt funny could use... the old light/medium/heavy/assault/hero should make it better
-currently there is no info about the mech im gonna buy before pressing the buy button kinda like yea im gonna buy atlas-D but i dont have any idea what can i mount in there or its basic loadout or even its tonnage
- i dont see aviable mechbays... this should be displayed IN STORE especially there, the only time i saw it i think is while browsing mechlab. Can you please add it so we can see it either permanently or in store?

2. Skills
- only thing bad here is its not sorted by anything, either by tonnage or by name is fine... but its just minor

3. Mechlab
- armor specification please make it as an separate tab doing it the way its now is just bad
- could use smurfy like look at mech
- make SAVE button more noticable(aka bigger) and rename it... CHECK OUT isnt so good
- for camo/color make the bar longer so we can see more patterns/colors

4.Social
-would be nice if open tabs could be minimized and accesible at any time not just while i have social panel opened

Please, revert back to the old UI. The new one is such a pain to use.

The old UI really wasn't great, and I really wanted a new UI... but not this. Uhhg.

Can't view equipment tonnage/slot requirements by selecting or "mousing" over them?!

Again I appreciate the efforts here, it looks nice But it as if someone built a fast new sleek and shinny car, but forgot to put in a speedometer, fuel gauge, RPM meter. Still has a gas pedal and a (tiny) brake, in the lower left hand corner.

Its not just a matter of "use to the previous model" syndrome, as the previous model had more function over fashion.

repetitive, but the horse deserves it:

critical
-no ability to view equipped engine or modules from mech bay
-limited detail inside loadout screen

moderate
-no ability to sort owned items in loadout

pet-peeve
-Lack of interface sound adjustment compounds frustration
-requiring all group members to queue in the social tab only is a step backwards

edit
UI 2.0: dual monitor with smurfy may be required.

Please get rid of the incredibly annoying noises in the mechlab. I want a check box to get rid of the mouse over noises before I lose what little bit of sanity that remains!!!

Please go back to the old UI and FINISH this one.

I am sure i has been said but you can't filter the buy menu you can't even see what is on them, when i looked at the new hero mech to day i got ticked off trying to find out what was on it and as a result didn't buy it your loss.

I would like to see the quick select boxes for your mechs back and maybe 8 not 4 but hey i can live with out.

And if you want to get group involved OVERHAUL the Friends interface, the current one is for lack of a better word useless.

you need a mini view of your mech in the mech lab showing what part of the mech you are working on or highlight it on the current view.

These things are not all of what is wrong but i am sure others will pick up on what i missed.

NOW TAKE IT AWAY AND FINISH IT PLEASE

You guys, this is not good UI design. It's not elegant, not structured. There is no natural flow. It's just grid after grid after grid with tons of mechs / items / modules poored into them. We knew it, you knew it, you released it.

And WHERE ARE MY *** MODULES? Are you seriously thinking that if I have to open up every chassi I own in the mech lab (and THEN click on modules), just to find out where I last put em, I might BUY more of them at like millions a piece? Come on, it's not happening. Not for one single player I bet. It is bullsh*t.

Ok, to be more constructive: Have the first "target decay" module cost 6 000 000, but if I want to by another one, make the price like 60 000 so I can put it on every mech I own at a reasonable cost. Or simply change the freaking UI so that if I want to put a module in my Jenner, and it's currently assigned to my K2, just MOVE the damn thing from the K2 to the Jenner (unless the K2 is currently in a match, naturally). Look, we are here to play a game and have fun, so please at least TRY to make just that easy for us.

There are many, many, many more issues, but I can't spend my entire life here trying to help ...

So figured I'd take the time to write up some proper feedback.

I skipped over the intro, not sure why you can't use spacebar anymore but it came up in the feedback you can use esc now and less abuse of the spacebar is always good I guess.

main screen.
- where is my quick list for mechs? I'm going to be generous here and assume you removed it because we'll have this again with dropship mode.
- Please add quick select mechs underneath the "home" menu options, looks like it could fit two columns of 4 easily.
- full pic of mech, nice but why can't I rotate it?

Select mech.
- This isn't the store, so it should *not* have mech sales here. bad.
- what are my loadouts? (pops up while writing) font is bad. pop-up is annoying, what you should have displayed is the mech loadout! that would have been super useful. The fluff should be buried away somewhere else.
- WHY is there a little box bottom left describing the big thing im looking at far right? this box feels very much out of place.

Configure.
- I'm sorry but there is a TON of wasted screenspace on icons for things that would be much easier presented in a list. Engines for example, 3 pages for something that could fit in half a page.
- Equip button is nice, but if you equip an item there should also be an "unequip" button to remove it.
- Why do we even have a mech model if it serves no purpose? at least let me click on it to select a location.
- "owned" items should be easier to discern from un-owned items. If I own a piece of equipment or module, make it BLUE like an unlocked skill. I want to be able to easily identify what I own without squinting at the screen. They should also be prioritized over stuff I don't own.

- REMOVE ALL THE CONFIRMATION BOXES EXCEPT FINAL PURCHASE/SALE. if I accidently equip something, it would take just as much time to unequip it as it would to click a confirmation button. Assuming less than 100% of my equip choices are not mistakes, that would save me a lot of time.

- BOTTOM RIGHT BOTTOM RIGHT BOTTOM RIGHT. ask any newspaper layout designer. people read from top left to top right to bottom right, stuff bottom left doesn't get looked at that much. Your final point of "eye line" journey should be bottom right, not bottom left.

- fiddled with loadout, but didn't change anything. Stuck in a loop trying to access weapon groups now because I don't want to save changes I made, yet it wont let me go to weapon groups unless I save changes. had to fully exit configuration for the mech back to mech bay, then reselect mech to view weapon groups.

Statistics
- it opens a web browser. why not just open it in client? it seems tacky having web pop-ups from ingame unless they are to purchase currency. Maybe sometime in the future as a low low priority that will be added, you could even just create an ingame web-browser that the MWO page can load into maybe.

Skills
- overall I like the layout, however (and this is a recurring thing) REMOVE REDUNDANCY. Either add a tab called "owned mechs" or change "all" so that it only displays mechs I own. There is no point wading through a list of 50 difference chassis when I only own 3.
- click the mech. left click or right click does nothing. the mech tree button itself is redundant, because your already in the mech skill section. Just remove the button and click the mech directly as the button is on the small side. Its a usability convenience niggle.
- WHY does clicking on a skill open up an identical duplicate to the right? I can't work that out.
- It still says efficiency multiplier 2x when I click on elite skills. Do these get 2x bonus as well? If not reword that from "Efficiency multiplier" to "basic efficiency multiplier"

OK I just noticed the bottom of my client has a blinky blue light. Please enable the ability to either left or right click to stop it blinking (DONT put a confirmation button, just click - done).

*edit*

Store.
- Weight classes !! you have them in mech bay, put them here

In summary.

I don't think enough time was spent looking at the overall picture from a usability standpoint. There is a lot of redundancy in terms of drag & drop and those confirmation boxes EVERYWHERE. This isn't windows 95.

Also since its now in the same window, unlock it !! allow for us to dynamically resize the window like any other standard window. 1600x900 window on a 1080 desktop has the taskbar overlapping for example. This isn't a MWO issue, but its awkward when you can't easily resize the game client to suit.

When do we get dropship mode? that would alleviate the problem of only having one mech to choose from on the main screen instead of four.

This UI needs a lot of work.

I thought at first that maybe I'm just getting used to the new interface, and the frustrations I'm experiencing are caused by unfamiliarity.

After further use, it became apparent that is not the case.

The UI has serious problems: it is very confusing, it is covered in "BUY now" distractions that make it feel like navigating a giant web advertisement, and everything that was somewhat fragmented before has become totally granular (there is no centralized information or way to use the gear you have available).

Please get a professional to help you fix this UI: if the interface stays this bad it's going to be intolerable.

Congratulations on making the deadline.

Hire more engineers before the customers start rioting.

My 5c:

Pro's/Con's linked to match up.

PRO'S
  • New loading screen looks great
  • Visually it is exceptionally crips and the mech renders look great aside from some minor glitches
  • Full screen - YES!!
  • Inventory is great - much easier to see how much excess rubbish is lying around. One gripe though and that is con (3) re: modules.
  • Great being able to see where your friends are e.g. training/mechlab etc
  • New graphics look great!
  • New menu for cockpit items and modules is great
  • Good to have the stats at the base of the mech but con (2) text is tiny!

CON'S
  • Still get black screen wait; why not keep the loading screen on until the game is ready to load?
  • At the highest resolution at least, the fonts are just tiny - Text should be easy to read
  • Switching between mechs is tedious at best. I spent at least 15 minutes earlier trying to find an engine to switch out for another mech. I expect the same pain for modules.
  • In relation to 3 - when you select a mech the display should list the engine size along with the other stats - instead of guessing based on speed or going right into the mech bay to take it out.
  • Having to keep clicking back is tedious; when you select a mech it should open with a default screen e.g. loadout, rather than blank space
  • Apparently only way to save loadout is to select 'weapons grouping'.. ..if im missing something here then its either a bug or not implemented clearly
  • 'Lobby' button is really small and insignificant
  • Popup is annoying when it obscures the mech + does not always show, should really should be up when the mech is selected, but maybe centre screen
  • No quick select mech for regular mechs
  • No easy way to switch modules etc

GENERAL COMMENTS
  • In the inventory, modules etc you own should be listed with the mech they are equipped on
  • Testing grounds may be better placed under the play now button rather than home, seems a bit superflous here, same for tutorials, redeem code and stats. Why not have all of this on the top bar??
  • Why not use the little grey corner box to denote the mech class to help with filters and searches?
  • Friends list - possible to add game mode friends are playing?
  • Awesome if stats could be integrated into the UI rather than to the website
  • Remove configure button and allow access to the mech on the click of the icon
Overall while I have listed a number of cons and some comments, it is pretty cool. Can tell there has been a lot of work put in and it still is a significant improvement from the old UI, although some features of the old UI were better - mostly the mech loadout section, but Bryan is fixing that in March with a Smurfy style layout, so really excited to see how that comes out.
