Atlas Not As Great As You Think

For me in just about any mech chassis I play, this is the order of Assault mechs to the degree of mechs I get nervous of dealing with.

1: Highlander lots of guns JJ quick turns, armor.

2: Stalker. If it's not a Trial or Champion stalker, or a stock variant, that much firepower in one place from ONE mech can be utterly terrifying to deal with.

3: Atlas. In the hands of a good pilot, ..it's 100 tons of Skull and Death. It carries solid pin point damage, lots and lots of armor. The hit box adjustment really helped the Atlas, because for me it went from Fatlas, to Atlas. And from 5th on the list to 3rd. (Tied with the Victor) I just know which one is going to die first when I get into a position to actually engage the hostile mech. And it's not going to be the Atlas that dies first if piloted by two equally skilled pilots, and I know which one is going to result in me losing more armor.

4: Victor JJ quick turns, great speed, decent firepower. The victor almost plays itself when I bring mine out. It's just barely subpar to the Atlas in my book, due to lack of ECM variant, and a lack of armor.

5: Battleturd... I mean Master. I really don't fear this mech, ever. It's too easy to pick apart, on every torso, provides only medicore mobility, and armor that doesn't even compare to the Atlas, or Highlander. Unless I'm like in a Dragon, or my Centurion, I just kind of point and laugh at this mech and if I'm in a 65 ton or better mech, I'll gladly exchange punches with one.

6: Not Awesome. If the Battlemaster is easy to rip to pieces, the Awesome might as well just hand an 85 ton kill over to the enemy for even being fielded.

That's great and all, but this is a video game and most people will flock to what is most powerful with least resistance (skill, time, etc). If its clear that a large percentage of the population of a game is mostly using a very small percentage of content it seems like a waste of development time also. Balance is needed to keep things in check, not merely chivalrous attitudes.

Yes I will continue to run my non-meta builds in pug drops because I enjoy them and the challenge, but if dropped in a 12v12 group game I have to meta.

And you've got to meta because you know that the other side will. I changed up my Victor to use a STD engine and dropped the AC5s for the 20 so it modified the way that I play but not drastically. I can still poptart if I want but I'll be less effective. But, I have better close in damage output and survivability which is good. It just takes a bit of doing to want to actually close in. My rambling point being is that you can't non-meta the Victor. The stock loadouts won't really work and you can't turn the Victor into an LRMer with brawling power (I tried and failed mightily).

atlas got the nerf bat when PGI removed (and rightly so) the cockpit rattle from triple UAC to the face (something streaks still do) and gave BAP the ability to punch through ECM.
the DDC variant switched from being a gundam that does it all, down to the level of the rest of the assault mechs, so you had to expect some tears there

in fact it's still a great mech, the tier list between assaults isn't clear cut, most people will rank them differently, i for one don't fear any except the durability on the battlemaster, and the sheer firepower on the misery, but that might be because of my pretty wacky playstyle

You mean of course apart from Mechwarrior (the LOWEST rank of pilot) Rodney Van Kleven who piloted the Boars Head mentioned as a 'notable pilot' in the very first edition of the 3025 handbook published by FASA.

Or maybe Captain Danielle Rondema of 5th company Charlie Battalion Beta Regiment Wolfs Dragoons as published in the Fasa Wolf's Dragoons source book 1989.
