I don't program games. I manage tens of millions of dollars and play the stock market for a living. I also write science fiction. When I'm published, maybe you'll read my novels, maybe you won't. Who knows?

I don't have to prove anything to you. Nothing. I owe you nothing. You are dirt to me. Just another bag of air blathering on a thread on the internet. Except in your case, you hold yourself higher than anyone else because you have a degree and work in the game industry.

But guess what? There are people out there smarter than you and you'd never even know it. Good day, sir. Find another thread to waste your time in, please.

I love how every time I challenge one of your assertions, you tack on more things that somehow make you more respectable and knowledgeable. Just skip the crap and cut right to the part where you're a billionaire astronaut writing your science fiction autobiography by flying around space and punching monsters to death with your bare hands.

It's baseless argument from authority. It's meaningless, as is my equally baseless assertion that I program games for a living. I might be an industry veteran, I might be an 8 year old girl who's never touched a compiler before in her life. You'll never know, and that should have no effect on the validity of my argument. It's the internet, we have no way of proving credentials. Thumping your chest about how smart you are does nothing to advance the conversation.

I've very carefully explained my point, and you've very carefully ignored it in favor of waving your genitals around. We are at an impasse, sir.

This thread is off track. (If you guys want to argue who is teh smartestest take it to pm plz) Anyone want to take a stab at convincing me pseudo-guided SRMs are the way to go?

The way I understand the descriptions so far they sound like gimped streaks: all the spread, none of the lock, and currently less dmg per missile.

No, seriously. I may be biased, but I'd love to hear a solid case.

Oh well, I got Russ to respond to me on twitter about SRM's needing to be higher priority. He said he'd bring it up to Paul.

Lets hope it leads to something.

I'm not a happy person, but I'll throw down for this community.

Contrary to white knight belief, this place isn't toxic. We just need a real dialogue.

We need a community manager that ACTUALLY responds and is active within the community.

I've been saying this for a year. It took about of month of interaction with Garth to realize he was not the "One".

I've already got a reputation with the mods, and i'm probably too blunt.

Docbach would be AMAZING at the role in my opinion. He's very level headed.

And thank you by the way, appreciate it.

Garth barely interacted.

Actually to be honest what they should do is simply assign a few people. Im sure they could get volunteers from the community. like... 1-2 people per time zone, players that are on the forums alot and have there ear to the pulse of things. Bring them up to speed and as long as its a volunteer position allow them to help disseminate information.

TBH its almost so simple I wonder why they havent thought of it themselves.

unless they dont want information disseminated.

*insert conspiracy theories here*

Well the problem is, whoever does the job is going to need to have interactions with the dev's and be able to report.

It's one thing to read the forums. It's another to be able to compile the information, present it to Paul, and have Paul actually acknowledge it.

So while hiring a community manager is important, PGI also has to create a culture within it's company, where the community doesn't need to be feared.

I dont agree with everything you have said. Who knows what the code looks like? Who knows if what you want is even possible?

What we do know is that the meta sucks, and this is due to short range weapons like pulse lasers, medium and small lasers, SRMs, LBX, all sucking a_s.

agreed. but they are kind of avoiding this.

I actually wasnt kidding when I sorta mentioned conspiracy theories.

I mean honestly either they literally have everyone of there staff utterly inept when it comes to public communication and socialization or they are being purposefully tight lipped and a little suspicious....

Hmm...I'd say it's a mix of both really?

Russ isn't really tight lipped per'sae, I've had a bunch of interactions with him on twitter. But he definitely doesn't have the "pulse" of the community. And says/retweets things that would drive a PR person crazy.

Paul likes to start fires. Like NARC Thread/Nerf Gun Thread, he comes in, makes a post that's going to make people go apeshit, then disappears into the night.

And Paul HATES community feedback, ECM is a huge indicator of that, and his recent post that LPL and MPL are fine...good lord dude.

I want (really really badly want) to hope that it is indeed just that.

But I still cant help but feel there is another shoe waiting to drop down somewhere since I do still feel they are being way more tight lipped as a company then they should be. But hey who knows. Maybe they are in fact just really bad at public communication. If that is the case can only hope someone gets these ideas to them somehow. There are some really dedicated people in this community that really want to see this game succeed.

Well here is the tight lipped part. Based on their older posts regarding the matchmaker/premades, and then the recent podcast stating that only 10-15% of players drop in groups....we are hemorrhaging the kinds of players this game needs to survive.

This also jives with them being very leary of adding a 3PV queue. And being very slow about adding new game modes that may further split the population.

I think the game is not flourishing thus far.

I think it was for a time. Then they dropped the ball several times in a row. First by having a sub par release, then with the whole utterly delay of CW and then further with the initial clan package. It was a fairly decent community last year thats just taken hit after hit after hit.

That said I dont believe being tight lipped will help there cause. Even if its a controled release of info. I think it could greatly help. I know many of those I play with have at least been encouraged to see themhitting there release dates and playing again. I think knowing whats going on behind the scenes is something that could help the community want to be here.

Honestly man, they need some good PR. You can't give away free mech's every weekend.

And I don't want a trash CW to launch early (like UI2.0), so it's just going to take time.

But what they can do during that time is communicate...but they can also fix the more simple things.

This of course means Paul needs to do that "ACTIVE BALANCING" that he announced would happen....but never did.

It means that instead of adjusting LPL and MPL once and declaring them fixed (they are not), it means putting the fix in, then actually reading our posts...and determining we still don't want to use them. Then in the next patch adjust them again.

Show some effort on the balancing front to hold us over till CW.

well I think its a tell of two cities there.

I for one was at least happy that they tackled pulse lasers abit.

Now could they have done other things.. could they have tweaked them more.. could they have done alot of stuff.. YES... but that said it was only what... 1-2 weeks ago? So I wanna see what they do with time.. if a month goes by and they say "hey there still needing some work" and then they tweak them again, im going to be very happy. But thats too soon to tell. But at least thats a step in the right direction.

Thing is... I feel they should talk to us about this stuff. As you and I are both saying... communication. Simply because without it we have no idea whats on there mind and where they are coming from. We can only assume at this point. And thats always bad.

Now regarding CW, totally agree. But they shouldnt have pushed a release until they were ready.. but then that was probly a publisher issue. But I sorta feel like... there should be some way for us to know about this.... Would be nice.

I was cool with it till Paul said "They are in a good place" or whatever bull crap, then went on to talk about the Timberwolf to distract people.

Then I was like "Here comes another 4 months of pulse lasers not getting looked at".
