I would also like to add that it gives a step up to warriors that do not seek to progress into the leadership role. A veteran mark if you will or a way to show progression beyond the clans standard Point Commander rank

We decided to make a slight change from the standard rank system. Instead of Point Commander 1-4 and then Star Commander, where Point Commander 1-4 is an internal pecking order sort of deal more than any formal rank progression, we utilize Cadet, Point Commander (second class), and Point Commander 1st Class, and made it so that to become a Star Commander you need to first be a Point Commander 1st Class (and, of course, that there are even eligible SCom positions available).

As it takes a minimum of one month to trial up from one warrior rank to the next, it means you cannot climb the ranks too fast, gives the pilot time to integrate firmly into the Nova Cat way of doing things in a manner beyond that of the probationary period, gives them a chance to prove to the command structure that they are capable of leading, and proves to everyone (including themselves) that they have the combat prowess to carry their starmates should unfortunate events occur mid fight.

Also, it shows absolute dedication to being a ristar that they would spend so much time and effort to climb up the ranks to the basic command rank. We want that sort of dedication.

Even so, combat prowess and dedication alone does not make a commander, so we want to make sure the warrior is capable of leading, as well. An idiot can be a crack shot and a great fighter, but that does not mean they can lead. A great tactician might have all the right tactics down in theory, but if they cannot implement them then they are about worthless as the dangerous idiot in that role.

cool beans, i think a lot of units who play clans and play to the standards of lore come to the dilemma that lorewise rank is deciding my killing X amount of mechs in a trial of position. But a lot of us in RL know it takes a lot more then just destroying another mech to lead. I would then suggest maybe granting trial of positions only to those who earned or prove it. maybe have like a promotion board or something

We restrict it, honestly. I mean, aside from the limited number of command ranks available, we simply will not support the claim of someone with poor leadership qualities. There are several very capable members of CNC that we would not allow to be command just based on what we see of them, but we generally find those who can lead, try to, and those who do not do not try.

Agreed. As much as I love the lore of BT, when I was considering joining the Ghost Bears & was told of their rank policy, I thought it made a lot of sense. You are only allowed one opponent in your ToP. If you defeat him, you become a warrior. To advance however, will be up to the Keshik based on your actions over a given amount of time as well as the recommendations of your immediate superiors who would have been observing you. A good soldier does not necessarily make you a good king. Fighting is one thing, leading is another.

It makes sense indeed. If a cadet kills two opponents in a ToP in our Clan gets a chance for Star Commander training so it is not quite automatic. And it is rare enough anyway. Usually commanders are promoted later in their "career" when a spot must be filled but of course promotions are based on ability to lead. Many warriors like me may never rise in rank, but this does not mean that we are not good :P

There are a few that dont wish to rise in rank / trial and we understand and dont pressure them any. ^_^ like myself i may not want to go any higher possibly.

Well, it cannot be said we are easy on our Sibko cadets. Great effort all around last night by all who attempted to rank up, I am sure you will do better next time around.

Remember, if you wish to have some specific sit down and focus training time in using, say, lasers, or tracking a smaller mech at point blank range, or just generalized duel practice let us know. A little practice can go a long way.
