Been reading the forums for most of the last two hours waiting for a POS client to get back to me (so I can finally head home). I gotta tell ya it just struck me tonight how many of the members of this community...even some of the saltiest and jerkiest of the lot...still often post some really good ideas, solutions, work-arounds, suggestions, advice, etc. regarding this game and ways that could potentially make it better. My whine, is that it just boggles me that PGI seems to ignore both the content of these forums and the vast and diverse potential of that this near rabid community of fans could provide them. Sigh.

I wonder if PGI realizes these forums still exist. Aside fromm the generic announcement threads, does anyone from PGI ven communicate here anymore? and isn't that part of the job of the "Community Manager"?

I have wondered exactly the same thing many times. Or why things like machine guns can't get fixed. I mean they are so bad that PGI had to quirk a mg boat (locust 1v) so heavily with energy quirks that the best build for it is 1 LPL and no mg's to make it usable (and of course subsequently nerf it for being usable).

I've recently come back into the game and boy is it addictive in stretches. I guess the whine I'm getting to is after I've got basic efficiencies on my Misery, I'm basically just saving up C-Bills to get the next Stalker and so on. Once I've mastered that, go on to another chassis and rinse/repeat. Also the fact that each chassis just basically plays like another one in the same weight class. I mean, is there anything really to differentiate an Atlas from a Cyclops or something? I mostly just play QP, haven't really got into FP, but from what I hear I'm not missing out? Any ideas how I can diversify my experiences?

no assault plays like another. the variants of a chassis can do but thats on how you build them.
a atlas has such low mounted hardpoints that its only effective once the big upper part of your mech is shown to the enemy. same goes for highlanders and maulers.

stalkers can fire easily just showing a tiny bit of them because their hardpoints are up high. chance of survival is higher.
atlas has massive structure hardpoints making it one of the best brawlers but this game doesnt support brawling much.

the hardpoint locations make such an impact on a mech....... the higher the better normally.

Mauler does NOT have low hardpoints.

But agree with the rest.

not as low as highlanders, victors or atlai but the ballistics and energy hardpoints are lowish compared to what you have to show from the rest of the mech to fire the weapons.

edit: compared to a battlemaster or banshee-3m.

Play mostly lights....currently an Urby with AC2 and 2 ML's....troll build.

Frozen City - Couple of PBs are already in the enemy's rear. So I try to help by watching our thin left flank and spotting for the LRM boats. HELLO? Anyone besides me know what the "R" key does?Posted Image
Anyway...enemy starts a push into our weak left flank (Me and a Rifleman)....I lay down fire while withdrawing to several assaults who are sniping from behind a line of buildings.

Wham - HOLY CRAP...I kill a very beat up Catapult...Hooray for me !!Posted Image

Uh-Oh...whole push is now targeting me Posted Image

Evade back to the middle of the Assaults....

Enemy is fixated on me....don't even look at the big boys....Excellent!! GET EM BOYS!!

Nope...my whole team ignores the fight not 20m behind them and a couple of Sneaky Cheaters eat my lunch...

FFS!....I was RIGHT BEHIND YOU.....even the Rifleman just waddles by...Posted Image

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Plastic Guru

only thing I can think of is that our teams see an urbie and since it's only two enemy against us, the urbie should be able to handle that without breaking a sweat, it being an urbie and all. so they leave us to it. they really should consider that arctic cheaters break the laws of science so even our OP urbies may have some slight difficulty dealing with them ourselves which gets us killed.

I find it sad that i'm more worried about enemy lights than I am of the assaults. I just about soloed a dual ac20 + lasers king crab yesterday in a 4xSRM4/2ML xl kintaro until his raven buddie picked me apart from afar since I couldn't afford to turn away from the KC to drive him away. it had one torso gone, one ac20 left and a red CT when I died.

My gripe for the week is people taking things too personally and/or too seriously in PUG Quick-Play :T

Sure, I get annoyed at the occasional TKer, Back-Stabber, or AFKer, but bitching at your team after a loss- even a really bad loss- doesn't help anyone. Players have to learn, and they will learn if they continue to lose and notice that certain tactics (like sticking together :O ) have a correlation to winning. Screaming in their ear about their K/D, questioning the sexual relationships of their mother, or otherwise being belligerent doesn't facilitate learning.

nope. there is one thing i learned playing MWO: no matter the tier, they all zerg rush and do stupid things. they cant have learned.
they never will.
you can shove it in their face, they still wont.
not even think about it.
i am one of these guys that try to teach some guys after and during a battle because i damn surely know how to play because i have to. i cant aim for sh*ts (my wrists are shaky as hell) and have to find other ways to play good.
i mainly brawl or shoot ppc's and ac's. thats why i have to rely on my team doing stuff properly. if they dont i gotta rant at them and tell em what went wrong and why they lost.

bloating stats is just BS tho. there are no stat that is any relevant in ingame gameplay behaviours.

Rage quit tonight. seriously what the **** is wrong with this game when suddenly one night every single match is a loss and a bad one too. One match was 0-12 another 2-12 every single pug just kept splitting up and running off doing their own thing and the enemy murder-balls every time.

Seriously the match making system is ******* hopeless. I even just got legged in a locust by super accurate LRM fire and then splatted while running at full speed dueling another locust. There is no way a clan lurm boat could be that accurate when we were fighting between two buildings (no the other locust didn't have tag)

If you entirely reliant on near perfect play from your team in order to what you want to do, you should probably stay as far away from solo public games as possible. No matter how hard you rant, you just aren't going to get what you are looking for on most occasions.

one thing i have learned here is pugs are pugs. kind of like a box of chocolates...

achm

pugs being pugs sometimes they are great and others well, not so much

lately we seem to be inundated with the worse kind of pug out there. The timid PUG. i am not sure how to counter the hiding, shooting past max range, scarred of a few lrm, and general just afraid of their own shadow pugs. but i bet if i wait it out the Leroy Johnson Pugs will be back.

i mean all i want is simple flank supported by a general push...

i know lead by example...

my connection is crap. $500US a month for a 1Mbps line, packet loss and bad ping (from 380-440ms to 420-500ms on NA) recently after my ISP changed lines. and last couple days was the light event. cant seem to touch them sometimes. lead shooting or whatever doesnt work. its also very difficult to hit warpy mechs. the shots feel so soft now. sigh.

really envy those playing with <100ms pings. trading is a huge difference. it sucks to work in a country with bad infrastructure, cant play my favorite game properly.

oh well. maybe i should switch to lurms or streaks :~

Oceanic was down so I had to drop into NA server and I get the same 0.5 WLR unit guy driving an Assault in 3 consecutive games:

1st game: He charges into enemy mass, dies with 100 damage and started to **** talk and backseat drive about how I'm playing the game all wrong. Yeah that's probably why I have a positive wlr and kdr. Every game there is that 1 guy who thinks its all about charging into enemy lines with zero thought, who dies and then backseat **** talk. I mean I agree playing aggressive is necessary in some circumstances but definitely not charging uphill into a chokepoint with zero scouting, information or communication.

2nd game: He sees me in lobby and just keeps **** talking me again. Overheats and blows himself up in Caustic and starts backseat driving and **** talking again. Does like 200 damage? For an assault, that's terribad.

3rd game: Sees me in lobby and just keeps **** talking again. Drops in game and starts to tail gate me so I can't turn and all the while haranguing me. Like seriously wtf. After 3 games, still **** talking. Then he shoots me in the face.

Well at least I learned something, it doesn't mean that if you're a good pilot even if you are in a unit and talk a good game. And I'm pretty sure he's a low tier. How am I dropping with the same player 3 times in a row?

There's no alternative???
We pay about $80 a month and that's the sum total of the LAN, my dad's mobile data costs, phone bill TOGETHER. 500$ a month...holy ****....I wouldn't even bother keeping a connection if it was that costly.

Sure my internet is slow by western standards, but here it's fast. Ok, except when there's heavy rains, and some dummkopf realizes the last repair was a cashgrab (and nothing got done properly) and they need more emergency ones to keep the connection running.

maybe he thinks he's one of those "those who can't do-teach." types. going by how badly he did he must figure himself to be an awesome teacher and wanted to share his near infinite wisdom with you.

but yeah the match long whiners are a real pain. had one guy the other day in frozen tell everyone to stick together away from the edge so the other side can't snipe. ok fine as far as that goes. obligatory one guy of the "you can't tell me what to do!" school wanders off on his own dies and discos. guy now complaining how we've lost because of him. meanwhile (since we're all hiding in the back and anyone moving forward at all gets yelled at) the other team notices they're not getting shot at- push all the way into our position and pushes with flankers. we all die. guy goes on non-stop on how we didn't listen to him etc. like his very life depended on winning this match. first time I ever muted someone. several minutes while we're dying later someone else says "just shut up already." so he was clearly still at it

couple games later- another guy- frozen city again. we start flanking- assault lance stays by base. guy starts yelling at the assaults for not joining the charge of the lights brigade along the far flank of their spawn point. other team naturally reacts since they're relatively grouped in comparison. we get stalled just outside the buildings- cause 12 v 8 at this point (actually it was 10 or 11 I think a couple enemy lights went base hunting IIRC) and their assaults/heavies are present- ours heaviest in the push was a medium. we start dying-guy starts yelling for people to push and we deserve to lose we're all cowards etc.. starts calling off the score after every death as proof of his complaints. I charge a fresh timberwolf in my urbie just to get the match over and not have to listen to him anymore. 2nd muting- urbie outdamaged him (note- I didn't break 100 dmg). we lose 12-1.

trying to get my last KMDD we drop, one guy about 2 seconds after the match starts announces we've lost in a dejected, annoyed sounding voice with a sigh afterwards. we win 12-4. he's one of the 4 that are dead. rest of team asking where mr. negative went- he was already discoed

hey bro

yeah it costs that much here in East Timor to get a reliable connection. the alternatives are even more expensive. there are 3G plans around which are relatively cheap though but have even worse latency and bandwidth.

i usually play more MWO here in the country i work in, but cant wait till i get back home to Singapore for holidays, where the internet is so much faster and cheaper (1Gbps for ~$50usd?). oh well, it was just a rant, after my isp changed their line and routing, theres no way around it :(

I am sick and frickin tired of retardedly stupid mech pilots!!!

River City the whole team hides by the base leaving the light mechs as the only ones engaging the enemy. When the bad guy finally turn up they don't even move to take cover!!!

AAAAAAAARGH!!!!!!!
