I will probably never use the Timber Wolf so i'm a neutral player. I'll do a coldeyed analysis of this mech.
With the new screenshots i think the legs are near perfectly sized. As for their looks i won't say a thing. I only look at it's ability to fight and stay alive.

The snout is stubbier. That adds to it's survivability to being shot in the sidetorso's. The thicker arms also adds to it's sidetorso defence.
The thickness of the lower arms also shields the hips when viewed from the side.

The legs themselves are a bit thick but it's comparable to other mechs in it's "weightly neighborhood" for the lack of better words.
The groinplate area that the torso sits on seems quite wide so it might be the best spot to aim for if you want a sure CT hit.

The missileboxes in the sidetorso's are big but i expected worse. They are the Timber Wolf's biggest vurnerability in my opinion.
They don't seem to have missiledoors either.

All in all i think the design looks well balanced. But the hitboxes will determine it's fate. I'm a bit worried about it's cockpit hitbox.
Not too worried though.
That's my coldeyed analysis of the Timber Wolf as it appears right now.

I agree. The hit boxes look pretty solid. Remove the missile pods and the side torsos are damned near impossible to hit, not that it matters too much since it has a Clan XL engine.

Beside, that could create a marauder! :)

Huh. DOES have the lower leg spike, but it is just toned down.

Toned down for hit box issues probably.

The new screenshots make it even better. It's so much better to show it from different and multiple angles.

Really wont matter what it looks like, or what it playes like. Bottom line is it wont be a clan mech, but some bastardization in order to balance it out in a Battletech universe with no Basic Value system. Either Clan will be a game killer or it will be "ballanced" which will also be a game killer for the long time battletech fan base. The game has turned into World of Tanks anyway so just wait until we get a real MechWarrior game rather than a Tank game where the tanks look like MechWarrior Mechs.

This is the perfect timberwolf. Period. Heavy weapons pod arms. Well done LRMs without dumb mickey mouse ears. Legs of a sprinter.

The new design needs to be put down with a bullet to the head.

Go play World of tanks and check their forums, this game is MILES away from being that horrible.

Not to mention that while absolute interchangeability won't be a thing with clan mechs, the pod system they are implementing will allow you to do something very close to that.

Also, it makes no logical sense for them to release Overpowered (because Clan mechs were NEVER OP -more on that below-) clan mechs and render every other mech played so far useless. Because if they do that, we will have a tier system, and THAT'S when this game will become World of Tanks.

Clan mechs not as OP as people think explanation:

The new design has all of that, and at least looks like it can take a hit. The spindly arms were always the biggest flaw in my opinion with the design. Not to mention that they are an actual flaw. They are too small to fit all the Myomer needed to actually move the arms, AND allow enough space for the engineers to do maintenance. Omni pods were famous for also allowing more room for engineers to work. Those arms look like they would be knocked off with a strong breeze, let alone an AC 20 shot. Not to mention that they are supposed to hold plenty of armor (what was it, about 1.5 tons of armor on the arms?) plus the big guns on them.

TL;DR version: It was the IS mech who were shitty, century's old mech remember?
And the Clan Mech were actually ok, created almost specialy for the invasion.

No wonder why a Timber Wolf can pwn a Cataphract. They have a century of difference.
Try to put a Char Leclerc (french MBT) against a Sherman.

The design is excellent, but if there is one thing I agree with the other's. It's for the arms.
They just don't look right and not enought armored.

Just because graphics technology was awful back then and had it's limitations, doesn't mean we should stick with it. We can evolve, and create new things, we've found new memory cores, and can now make our own stuff.

Yes, the old design was iconic to people (some thought it was awesome, others thought it was scrap). However, that doesn't mean we have to follow that, we can try something different, which again, some think is awesome, and others think is scrap.

I wasn't talking about graphics in fact that old pic has way more curves on it than we have now, irony... and the phrase i'm not buyin' is appropriate here.

anyways a more serious discussion is i'm dissapointed how the posture and profile is for the new mech, very blocky which goes against its decades of curvy sleekness. toes are short, torso is short, arm weapon pods are short even compared to alex's artwork! just felt this being the big draw card pgi would've put a big effort for this one and I feel it could {and should} be better. it's failed expectations which is tough for pgi but that's what happens when you take on an icon. still they got the atlas right for shame the madcat isn't quiet there.

Honestly. I really like it. It is a bit meatier, and it looks like a Cockpit on legs with arms. Much more efficient and less of a stalker nose... The ears of the TW are easy enough to hit, you wish to make the CT easier too, quineg?

The only thing that steals it from me is the limit launch tube texture. Just looks plan vs the detail of the rest of the Mech.

I like this new incarnation of the Timber Wolf. The changes made have been done so for a reason and I think they did quite well. I wish the limbs were a -little- bit smaller but all the complaints about it being too bulky or blocky are remarkably idiotic.

If you want the damn thing to be spindly with a mammoth centre torso, enormous ears and a nose rivaling Pinnochio's then perhaps MWO is not for you. Maybe try masochism?

Yeah, I am really hoping that those textures are only temporary. The missiles just look flat and, as you said, plain.

However, using the Clans advanced weaponry PLUS fully customizable omni hardpoints would just mercilessly break the game simply because the players that upgrade their stock 'Mech now to make them more effective within the hardpoint limitations could just go nuts and create monsters of gamebreakery. No matter how you look at it, when using min/max strategies with both Clan and IS 'Mechs, the Clan design will always come out on top.
