The K2 And It's Itty Bitty Ppcs (And Other Weapon Scale Silliness).... Can We Please Get The Old Game Models Back?

Though I would not want to knock the skill levels of the best Russian, German or Israeli pilots. In fact, I would not be shocked if Israelis Jocks in "antiquated" F-16s wouldn't keep up with or exceed the F22s in dogfights.

Okay I'm completely confused.
Because the A1 should have 15 missile slot pods on each side, not a larger 20 missile pod that you can't even fit 20 missiles into unless it is a LRM20, which would make the 3 missile hard points wasted.

Ah, but lñet me stop you with this GEM of Dev logic.
"The scale on the Catapult is fine, because the "ears" are largely made up of empty space."
So. Not only did the military engineers make a mech with unneeded dead space (a big no-no in military vehicles) but we have lots of empty space in them. SHould be plenty to add an LRM20! http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__2306861
(Just goring the PGI bull with their own horns, sorry for this one Dennis, but, well, not one of your better researched answers, my friend. =/ )

The Cat needs its twist back honestly. In the face of mechs like the Cataphract it needs every advantage it can muster. Hell I'd go so far as to say the TDR is a better mech than the Kitty Cat at this point, barring MAYBE the Jester (if it's built as a fast laser boat)

I'd call it a tossup. Thud has better hitboxes, so can certainly take more damage, if used intelligently, but the Cat can lay down WAY more FLD. All things being equal, I'll still take my K2 over one, but only just.

I certainly seem to have a better kill to death rate in my TDRs versus the kitties. my Jester is certainly close, if only because it's very hard to take out a 95 kph mech that has a 38 alpha, 2 amses, JJ and solid cooling. That ST redux they did for the hit boxes and the Twist Nerf was and remains nearly Damning for the Kitty. It's way too easy to blow out their STs now. To say nothing of the aesthetic first degree murder of the A1, C4 and K2.

Oh the glory days when you could turn the torso a full 168° Kiting was never easier, and getting in those Parthian shots was soo satisfying...

The current PPC look would be awesome for lasers, even if they are oversized for small lasers. It would be much better looking than those flat emitters. They make the arms look like twigs.
It would be a simple change I think but simple does seem beyond PGI at times. Like why is TAG still not toggable? Why do we have to install 3rd party software or come up with keyboard macros for something as simple as making a piece of equipment toggle on and off.
Please PGI make the K2 look like a K2 again. Let the Jester look like it has real lasers on it and not like mounted boobs.

In the past, we had very little time to pump out 'Mechs and so, although weapons had a standardized look, their sizes were often skewed.
Most of the time, while building a 'Mech, the modellers would refer to a completed one (within it's class) for scaling, from which the weapons would be taken. The risk with this technique is the passing forward of possible scaling oddities and over time, creating bigger and bigger scaling inconsistencies.
Since we began retrofitting the 'Mechs to have dynamic visual load-out swapping, we have since created a single Weapons file (with all models being standardized in design and scale) for the modelling team to resource.
Now the caveat: Considering the drastic scaling differences between some light and assault 'Mechs, the weapons (in the file mentioned) are standardized per class. That is, an AC20 for a light 'Mech will still be smaller than one for an Assault, but not by much; ~1-4%/class depending on the weapon. This is necessary as some smaller 'Mechs just don't have the real-estate to carry an assault sized weapon, as well as that sometimes, it just looks goofy.
As the team still must continue to pump out 'Mechs on a regular bases, the modifications will occur when each modeller has the bandwidth so don't expect a global change over night.
Also, the 'Mechs that have a hero variant added will have the entire line retrofitted at the same time so it won't be uncommon to see newer 'Mechs being addressed prior to older ones.
I hope this clears thing up a bit.
Thanks,
DdK
Again thanks for all the input Dennis. I think 732 posts, 132 likes so far shows how passionate we are as a fanbase, and how much we miss the sheer rugged beauty of the old K2. I honestly at this point don't care WHAT I woul dhave to do to get it, be it have purchasable cosmetic geometry packages, etc, I think we all just really want the Kitty2 to purr again!

Selling Alternate Models, Skins, Armor Kits or whatever you want to call them is something I have been promoting PGI to do as a means (hell, a primary means) of monetization since the day I booted up into the CB.
I've also always believed that those Alternate Models should be the only thing Chassis Locked and that Camo Patterns need to be Universal just as Colors are. I would have been compelled to purchase several Camo Patterns over the nearly 2 years this game has been selling them if I didn't need to purchase them again if I wanted to see it on a different mech.
Reasonable Skins and Camos in both pricing and what's provided are a gold mine. League Of Legends pretty much made it's millions not off of selling Champions, the Avatars of the Players and what our Mechs are. No, League made it's mark by selling several skins for each Champion. Selling Cosmetics to allow people to show off and making awesome themes to it, you didn't just trounce someone with Gangplank, you trounced someone with Special Forces Gangplank which replaced your Cannon Barrage with WWII Bombs and your Flintlock with a Colt.45
I'm fully willing to admit I have spent an embarrassing amount of money over a long period of time on silly cosmetics in games that I enjoyed. I would like to do some in MWO if MWO offered such things in a reasonable fashion (and NO- Having to buy Sherman for my Thud -and- Sherman for my Shad and so on is not "Reasonable." We are talking about just a pattern of colors, no model work. If it changed the actual modeling and artwork of the mechs in question then I wouldn't blink, but for their price getting Camos by Chassis is not reasonable at all.)
Hate to derail this thread but there is a massive market, desire for a product that MWO -could- offer but continues not to. Minimal coding, heavy modeling, doesn't delay core features and gives a means of tapping a desire that is not being met. Seeing this just has me asking "Why?"
PS: Bishop, I'm not a Goon. I'm a Cappie for the hats

not sure what is more amazing, how great that catapult looks or the number of energy hardpoints it used to have
that was likely the old bug we had in CB where your armament stacked..... usually presaging you getting a CTD. I dropped with 8 SRM6 on my Awesome 8R one match, and 4 Large Lasers. With SHS.

I wish they would have put them back in considering that most heavies around the same tonnage have more hardpoints than the Catapult.

yeah, I think they did have the 6 energy, got changed a bit before I became a founder, but some older founders commented on it having them, anyhow.
