Pretty simple actually, if we make Assists a traceable stat increase the requirement up to 5-10% minimum damage to qualify. I don't want credit for 2 points of a kill.

It shouldn't be simply percentage-based. It should be based on damage that actually contributed to the kill or destruction of components that hampered that enemy mech's function.

If I shoot a guy in his left leg and never penetrate the armor, and ultimately the damage that kills him comes from teammates coring out his CT, I should get zero credit for that. I shouldn't get any assist at all for that kill.

If I actually hit his CT, or maybe I opened up some armor on his weapon arm and crit out his autocannon, I should then get credit toward an assist when that mech ultimately is destroyed by my team.

Now this I wasn't aware of. I noticed someone did this during a match I was in earlier today. At first I thought he was LD, but he would have had to shut his mech down if he was LD his sensors should have been active. (One person was LD though) Personally I rather fight it out even if it does look hopeless.. After all.. they could be really horrible shots. :(

There's a difference between making a tactical and incidental use of a game mechanic in the heat of the moment, such as the example you provide, and outright consistent abuse of one by shutting down and hiding at the beginning of and throughout a match several times.

As to shutting yourself down when you're near death, like our illustrious admin stated, thats a perfectly valid use of the mechanic. After all if you're pretty much dead why make yourself an easy kill.. I should have done the same thing myself today, my atlas had both the right and left torso destryed, but like a goofball I kept charging them, never occured to me to run and hide, lol.

12 Assists?!? Good Lord man.. Nice shootin tex.. My best so far is 8. Trust me, you're doing fine, not to mention you did considerably good damage for not getting a single kill, you were piloting a Raven of all things even and "Alive" at the end, showing you didn't do anything stupid during the match or at least stayed mobile enough to minimize damage to yourself. Nice, I pilot an Atlas and my #s aren't that good (Mind I'm a really big target and not hard to miss). KDR isn't everything, Sure its nice to get kills, but at least with assists/damage we show we're contributing to the success of a match.

You also got 0 deaths, which means that your KDR didn't go lower. I doubt anyone considers 1.0 KDR games horrible, if you kill as much as you die, you at least aren't dragging your team down. Even if it's no kills for no deaths. You can get assists for just scratching everyone, so the most valuable thing in getting those is the money/exp bonuses you get. Statistically tracking those would make little sense.

Frankly, 434 damage spread across 12 mechs means you did an average damage of ~36 per opponent, and so it's not really surprising that you didn't get kills. But for example as an ERLL Raven, you take the shots you can and stay alive. You did decently, and if you do this consistently, dealing 400+ damage and staying alive to the end of the match, you're bound to get kills every now and then. In time, your KDR will reflect your overall performance.

The results of separate single matches is insignificant. There is always some luck involved in matches, sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you get unlucky, sometimes enemy team just plays better than you even if you played well. I've got matches where I've done 800+ damage, 0 kills, 12 assists. I've got games where I've done less than 250 damage and got 6 kills. I've got games where I've done close to 1000 damage without me and my whole team getting anyone killed.

KDR doesn't directly measure how skilled you are. But in a game where you try to kill your enemies while staying alive yourself (someone staying alive is part of all the the winning conditions), getting more kills than deaths is indicating that you're doing something right.

Thats going in a really good direction Yue. I like it. Nice way to improve idea instead of just cut it down! :(

As long as c-bills are so low, I do. Having to do a fair amount of damage to get an assist (which I would be all for, under other circumstances) would significantly cut earnings - especially if it also limited those all-important saviour kills.

Seeing that I helped keep a team mate from dying is reward enough for me... guess I still have a hero's heart and so few do any more. :(

Mercenaries don't do heroics unless the c-bills are involved.

That's the opposite of what I was saying anyway - if you really made a difference to saving your team-mate in your system you'd get the credit, wouldn't you? If you popped over a hill and got the last shot with a medium laser you didn't really help anyway, but currently would be rewarded with thousands of c-bills. Without those c-bills from glancing shots suddenly everyone's winnings drops by 50k.

Of course the answer to this sub-problem is to have c-bills be properly earnable in a less dubious manner than tagging every mech on the field as much as possible, but hey. Currently we gotta work with what we have.

Among us Lawmen If I pop over a hill and kill an enemy a fellow Lawman is hacking on, its called confirming the kill, and we move on. I usually say thank you over Comms when someone confirms a kill for me. I guess the issue for some is how much team work is to much!

I disagree. A heroic Merc needs a paycheck to take the job, not to be who he is. :(

By extension, a heroic merc still doesn't take a job if there's no paycheck, regardless of who he is. I am obviously not saying that I wouldn't bother firing at people who I did not believe would provide me with enough credit for a payout, I am merely saying that in the current system your proposed idea would make it even harder than it already is to grind money. And again, I am qualifying that by saying this point wouldn't be an issue if there was a better way of assuring financial gains at the end of a match.

Edit: I actually remember taking some jobs that didn't pay in MW4: Mercs in order to be heroic, but it's not like buying mechs was the only content available in that game or had the other economy problems this game has.

THIS: This is actually a perfectly sensible answer, though it would make becoming a Philanthropist even more difficult! (Everytime I get to 10-11 assists, I always end up killing someone.... and have to start all over...... :P )
