While its nice to finally see a picture of what we would be spending half a grand on can we get some clarification on oh idk... spec info, warhorns, modules, targeting computers, clan tech, etc? I almost pity anyone who buys something before they know what they are paying for (tries to cover up Phoenix tag and complete lack of promised loyalty points).

I really care about the overpriced gold mech cash grab and am not just asking so that we have some info on clan mechs sometime before they come out.

4 more where that came from, totally real money I swear.

I dare to say the "Paint" is fixed to the Variant, so, no matter how you interchange parts, it will allways be a gold mech, and others, will simply have the basic look, even when equipping parts of the gold mech.

Why would i think so?

Because paint/cammo is fixed, you cant mix and match those either.

Good call and thank you for the input, I would happen to agree with you aswell, but I was hopeful.

Star Citizen does this too. "Get your alpha slot before they are all gone! Wait, we're almost out? Here, lets add a few thousand more!"

Heh, that's because half a million people kept giving Chris Roberts money and kept wanting to buy into his idea.

Quote

Then again, they finally stopped with that. And then again then again, they made an additional pay-for option to be able to get in anyway.

And again.. it's because there's demand for it.

Turns out, people give you money if they think you are going to give them something they want in return.

That's why we once gave PGI a mountain of money... and why we no longer do.

Will not be spending that much for that big of a target and a very visible one too, but would gladly pay for new maps. Been 5 months now, we get candy mechs, candy paint jobs, just candy lately.

When we gonna get the main course? When is CW coming out (with more then 10 maps to cover the some hundreds of different worlds we should be playing on)?

Already feel my previous purchases have not helped you get this game going, debugged, etc.

I'll be waiting for PGI to make changes that profit the whole community, this might make me want to BUY into the future of a GREAT game.

The funny thing is, at 1000m you can't tell if someone has Sulfur or PC Gamer Grey on their mech. You think Gold will stand out?

i'm so glad i'm not on this boat, i stopped at a uller because of the state of the game/plans. if everything was well organised and on track they would've got a masakari out of me right away.

thing is... for a pixel shiny i just think about charities and people who NEED that kinda money. i'd feel so sick and guilty putting that usefull money towards a mere skin.

i feel pity for those who buy shineys not envy and i'd feel ashamed if i'd thrown that kind of money which does nothing but line others pockets for the sake of pixels not even boosters for the future playability. hope the bonus module works out for you goldies.

Gold Mech exclusive invite only tournament for cash prizes.... Only reason I would consider it, if my budget would allow it in the first place.

Yes I have 500 bucks laying around, no you wont get it....

That actually looks more like piss than it does gold, just saying.

enjoy your 500$ urine mech.

I would pay 500 bucks for all the content that was promised since the start. Still waiting on my loyalty points that I paid for...

$tar $itizen: Paving the way for generating revenue schemes for all games here on out!

Star Trek Online did it too.

"Buy the collector's edition and get all this exclusive stuff!!"

And then within a year all that stuff was being given away as event prizes and then ended up on the item shop.

And then there's that whole "You never actually own it" issue with these "collectible" items.

Also, I like the whole "jealousy" card. Like $500 is an enormous amount of money and everyone should be totally jelly over $500. Everyone aspire to be just like someone who can spend $500 on digital game content!! I spend $500 on toy airplanes that every time I put in the air, there's a chance that I can crash it and be out $500. In essence I'm gambling that money every time I fly.

I can reasonably assume that since almost everyone here has a fairly decent computer to play the game to begin with, most of us have a disposable $500.00.

It's not the money that's the issue. It's the fact that you aren't getting anything tangible for your money. You don't even own what you're paying that money for. You're paying for the right to use something Piranha still owns. They call it a collectible, but it's not limited in any way other than their word, and they can make changes to it or legally take it away any time they want to. You cannot trade it like a true collectible, and when the game goes away, so does your "collectible".

Spending that kind of money on digital content is just dumb. I'd rather use my $500 for something I can actually have fun with. Like another toy airplane.

$500.00..

That's a car payment. On a nice car. For some pixels that only had to be put together once and then skinned once..

$500.00...

No thanks. I may buy the T-Wolf and Nova for $100 combined, maybe... But I can't see spending $500 for shiny when $500 can get you something significant and tangible..

Of those 50 left, that's $25,000 you guys are looking to make on something that's already been modeled and a reskin.

Knowing how 3D modeling works, I KNOW it didn't take $25,000 in company resources to make the T-Wolf, all of it's variants and all of it's reskins combined...

and $25,000 is a start of a mortgage, for a home... something that is very real

not pixels that are fake and aren't worth anything...

If CW had been out, they could have gotten a Dire Wolf out of me. If the Clan tech wasnt SUPER nerfed, you could have gotten me for everything but the Gold mechs. If CW was out, the Clans werent trash and millions of people were playing the game, you could have gotten me for a Gold Dire Wolf.

However, since PGI is 2 years behind schedule and doesnt seem to have its act together in way, shape or form ... they got nothing. More than that, I had support refund my Clan purchases. I also had IGP refund my Mechwarrior Tactics Founder package as well. Hard to believe that MWT is behind schedule and having problems coding their --> browser <-- game.

It's remarkable that people are willing to shovel money at a company that now has a lengthy track record of misleading their customers and completely failing to deliver what they promise, either on time or on quality. My money goes to causes I support and companies that do good work. I can't imagine what "good" people see in being tricked and lied to for 2 years. If MWO folds and disappears before these gold Mechs even take the field the suckers who paid will get exactly what they deserved.

All the comments about paying for things like pixels where you don't have physical items being dumb. Laughable as I guess you never go to the cinema, buy any software, rent anything, go on holiday.... or many of the real world transactions grown ups do.

It does sort of paint you as users of pirate bay/iptorrent, liars or freeloaders.

That or you're unemployed and/or sitting in your parents basements.

The only thing you get from buying a gold mech is being called primary in every match you play.

Some of us like to own the things we pay for. which is why I'll never lease a car.

When I'm renting a movie or watching something on pay-per-view, I'm being advertised a service, not a product. When you rent a movie, you know you have to take it back. You know it isn't yours. The fact that you have to bring it back and you don't have permanent ownership is clearly understood when you walk out the door, carrying your receipt that says "Return by ##/##/##", with a disk that says "PROPERTY OF ******** VIDEO". A disk that was specially licensed for rental, by the way.

A product is clearly being advertised here. A product that you'll never own. Being marketed as a collectible. Without actually being worth anything, tradeable or tangible in any way. All you have is PGI's word that they'll never release them again. The same word that won't tell you how many there were to begin with.

When you buy a Ferrari 458, it has a number plate on it that tells you "This car is #50 of 10,000", for example. Because it is something that is valuable, collectible.

Will each of these include a "## of ###"?

Every game I've ever played that offered "exclusive" items has later gone and sold those items.

Hell, World of Tanks had a Sherman tank (M4A2E4) that was given exclusively to closed beta testers when the game went live. Not only did they turn around and put it up for sale (on the Russian server), they also nerfed it. Several times...

Exclusivity at it's finest. At least it didn't cost $500..

This is a friendly message to IGP and PGI, listing many common F2P practices both good and bad. It also describes two models that are very detrimental to the industry. One, which alienates the company by giving shortcuts that remove the enjoyment of the game (Battlefield's 'packs' do this one as does MWTactics) and the other alienates the players by making them feel compelled to buy and eventually become nervous with constant sales yet little progress.

MWO started fantastically with players happy to throw money in. It didn't need sales or special deals back then, but progress was frequent. Tweak here. New mechanic there. Open-ended developers sharing their thoughts, plans, etc.

But then something changed. Sales became far too frequent. Prices getting obscene. Many devs stopped sharing information ahead of time unless it was in the next patch. Some went completely silent. It's unsettling.
