This founders stuff is an obvious money grab.

I pitched in for two reasons:
1. They are doing something that I've hoped someone would do for a very long time. That's worth a little cash, in my book.
2. This is the last chance we have for a good MechWarrior game. If this thing flops the entire franchise will be radioactive forever.

If I support it, they get to keep working on it. The more they work on it, the better it will get, and the more likely it is to be a success. The more successful it is, the more resources they will be able to put into working on it.

So if you can afford it, do your bit. If you can't afford it, then enjoy the game.

Either way, spare us the whining.

Guess what.

From all sources I've heard, you can wait for open beta to buy a Founder's Package.

That's right. Try before you buy. Can you imagine that in the days of MW2? Getting a *demo* of a game? Before it even comes out? Unbelievable.

Isn't this obvious and expected? Why would anyone feel the need to state the obvious? After all, this is a money making venture, isn't it? I, for one, hope they succeed fantastically so this game has a long and healthy life.

I've bought many a "dog" of a game for 50-60 bucks and regretted it (Brink anyone?).

So this time I haved rolled the dice again in hopes of finding something good again. At worst I'll feel that I bought TWO bad games in half the time. Perhaps I'll feel a bit worse because it's free toplay and I wasn't forced to spend anything, but did anyhow.

Regardless, If it's a dog I'll go lick my wounds and move on. If it's a GEM, I'll be glad, but I won't rub anyone's nose in it if they chose not to.

I've heard that the Founders packs will stop being sold before, or on August 7th. Isn't that early access for Founder holders, not open beta?

Open beta will allways be after 7th of August, you cant get founders packs after that date.

Lets be honest here, I am a huge btech fan, I ordered IWMetals minis, played megamek, played the boardgame as a kid, begged for a computer to play mw2 and etc.

When I looked into the "mechwarrior 5" team, I found a company that had an extremely mediocre metacritic average, handling mostly generic ports, and mechwarrior 5 actually looked awful. Console aimed, UAVs, distorted looking classic mechs etc.

Reference:
http://www.metacriti...y/piranha-games

They want me to pay 120 dollars for "exclusive" content for a game under strict NDA that is advertised as F2P from an unremarkable company with a mediocre track run. Not only this but once the game is in any way playable, this option will be removed.

This sounds entirely like a money grab, "pay us money based on hype and IP name". Now I understand it's smart to do this, but money grabs like this lead me to believe this will become the norm, "Pay to win, pay for advantages etc". I'm gonna be skipping this game looks like and I just want to warn you all to take off your rose tinted glasses and look at the precedent set by this founders package. This is a "player vs player" game too. Now It's your money, and you can do with it what you want, but I think I just expect more from a developer I want to trust in the least. Loading up a "pay us 120 dollars now or lose out" seems to be milking the die hard fans, instead of making them happy.

Anyway I understand none of you will likely agree in any way with this, but I want some proof the game is in any way a good complete experience before they give a time limited "Jump in now or miss out" offer.

It seems like exploiting the longtime diehard fans enthuisasm rather than delivering anything worthwhile to them. This definitely is a huge negative for me. I never remember paying more than 50 dollars for any other mech game, heck the boardgame box sets costed less, the most I spent was on minis which was optional. What do you all see that I dont?

I think I understand what you mean.

Tell you what, convince me that I have no reason whatsoever to be concerned with the Direction MW:O has taken and I will buy a Legendary Pack for Myself and up to 5 other Forums users that can convice me otherwise.1

Till then, ive got things to go back to. Stay safe & have fun ppl.

JP

1 Limited Offer last from now to July 15 2012.

I can not convince you.

I will say take a look at everything the devs have posted about the game and come to your own conclusions about the direction and intentions of the game and its developers. See their presence on the forums here, heck in this thread alone. If these things do not give you faith in the direction and intentions of the developers then nothing I say will convince you.

I understand your distrust after SWTOR entirely. While I did not have the same experience as you per se I saw many of the same things. Which led me, as it did you, to stop playing the game. Similarly I've played WoT since beta and gave them more than their fair share support, even in instances where I shouldn't have. However I also recognize the differences in both approach and communication in the aforementioned games and this one.

One way or another you'll be able to play the game and see for yourself if the game lives up to expectations or not come open beta.

Hope to see you on the battlefield.

Personally I'm just a supporter of the MW franchise and think that whoever is contributing to it is a saint. MWO looks incredible so far and I can't wait to get in. Gladly gave to the cause.

Exactly. Personally I think it's nice that you don't have to pay anything and can still get the same game - something that will attract newcomers and casual players. But at the same time you can still support what is looking to be a good title that deserves money.

Of course the Founders packs are cash grabs. Free to Play games always have preorder deals like this, this is not news. The developers did this to generate some money early and there's no law against making money. If you want to buy a pack, then buy one. If you don't, wait until the game launches and then play for free. Outrage not needed.

I decided to buy a founders pack after researching the game and I am a long time Mechwarrior fan. I think this game has lots of potential and a lack of a track record from the devs isn't anything to worry about in this day and age, see the earlier reference to Wargaming and World of Tanks.

Every game has something like this usually they're called as Collector Edition. This is just so good example why I like about F2P games. Hell, even now, some people can play it for free. They just need to balance it right between free and paying customers, and of course those who take CE etc.

This is what worries me and i see it already starting with you...i have seen it happen in many games ''player buys or pre-orders so and so before time for whatever amount'' '' player then devlops a self-entitiled self imposed Delussion of granduar demanding things from the game and Devs'' "' Blah blah blah i payed this amount blah blah blah so i deserve this!!! give it to me now!!''

Point being you got what you piad for and knew what you where buying before hand.. don't start thinking just because you paid *** amount before hand that you are any better or deserve better treatment then Joe Shmoe who didn't

If you don't like the idea of a preorder, don't buy it.
The idea that it is bad for a company to put out a preorder without letting people play the game is ABSURD. Nearly EVERY major title that has preorders doesn't let you try the game out first.

This really sounds to me like someone complaining because someone else might have something that he doesn't have, or at least doesn't want to shell the money out for. Founders will NOT have any advantage on the battlefield, they will just earn money and exp a bit faster, and you can earn exp JUST as fast as them, and money just a touch slower (if they are running the founders mech) by buying a premium account.

Also, after 3 months, their premium will run out and they will have to buy it just like someone who didn't get a founders pack.

The Bounty Hunter is wondering what your point is? They are a company. They are out to make money. They are doing it with a Bonus structure that does not effect game play. You have a choice of buying into it or not. The Bounty Hunter is not buying it (long time Btech fan as well) but that's The Bounty Hunter's choice as it is the choice of MANY MANY other to participate. The Bounty Hunter thinks your just upset because you might not have the disposable income (as The Bounty Hunter also does not. Hey, sometimes it tough being The Bounty Hunter) to be part of the club, so your angry.

The Bounty Hunter is tired of these ridiculous posts. You have the right to your opinion on there matter....but good lord. Keep it to one bit***ng thread. There are like 12 now. When ranting be respectful to others on the board who have to sift through all of the same rating threads trying to make the same point. Keep it to one thread.
