just teach you more

They also teach people about Classic BattleTech and why a COM-2D, CTF-1X, and many more are the way they are in stock form, which factions utilized/introduced them, which 'Mechs they were commonly paired with in lances, etc. Requires more digging obviously on sarna or in catalyst books, but not much information in MWO has stuff to read about the Mechs, introduction dates, why it was built, etc.

the lack of Lore or at least links to lore on the "official" sites is troubling. Would love under the Game/Mechs section, for instance, to see each variant listed get a hyperlink to a canon source, complete with fluff, with stats appended for MWO.

A bit of fluff would be cool for Mechs and even just giving weapons a brand name would be fun.

I'll be keeping all of my Clan mechs stock for this :o

As for your question, I'd pick the Orion or the Cataphract. I was actually looking at them both myself to fill my heavy stock slots!

Intredasting. I'm going to give it a try next Monday.

How does the factory config JR7-F do? Is it a total heatbox or usable?

I can imagine most mechs that use ammo will run out in short order. Most stock configs rarely load more than 2 tons of ammo for any single weapon. Quite a few have just 1 ton per weapon.

I ran the F for the first few matches. The second match I ran we were in Tourmaline and I did have to run redline a lot during a large brawl I was skirting around, but it has the speed and jets to get it out of trouble to be able to cool down for another run when it needs to.

The only time I overheated I knew it was going to happen and it was toward the end of the game when a spider had been legged and I launched everything I had at it's other leg. Didn't kill it, but the spider only made one more jump before being shot out of the sky by the rest of my team.

I know people are shouting for that stock queue in match maker, I just don't see the community using it much as a whole. However please do give that option to me in private matches. Maybe draw the armor back top in those matches. We have ammo problems because the armor values were doubled lol.

View PostBishop Steiner, on 07 May 2014 - 05:39 AM, said:

yeah.... I remember the QQ in CB about dying too fast...... thing is...we have ammo problems, but if you get focused, you do die pretty fast even stock..... and some mechs like the Jager with pinpoint aim and convergence? DOA. If they would ever add some of the situational induced CoF I have pushed for, and reinstate the heat effects, like buggy HUDs, I think a return to stock armor could be doable. Now? NOt so sure.

Well, the issue with the armor is the fact that weapons are doing 3 times damage for the most part compared to TT, against armor that was doubled. So, 50% more damage for most weapons, some at the 1.0 mark, others at the 2.5.

Ammo was increased from TT to varying degrees, so if we go stock armor we would have to cut ammo amounts as well.

Have such a good feeling about this. Might actually make this game very fun.

Are there filters on private matches to limit mechs and load outs?

Free Private Lobbies will - eventually - be governed by 3/3/3/3. Premiums are no holds barred.

Currently, (as of 5/7) neither have any limits so we just ran with either tonnage limits or by adhering to 3/3/3/3 by our own agreement.

For Stock Mech Monday we've simply allowed every Mech except ones that have double heat sinks in their stock form. Loadouts are all "as is" from when you purchase them (or retrofitted to match their stock loadout listed on Smurfy). Check out the "Master Mech List" for some ideas on what to play!

I've wanted a stock mech mode since CB,and this sounds like a lot of fun(barring MWO's goobered up heat system anyways),but how do you enforce stock mechs? how do you know no one is sneaking in DHS,endo, whatever?

Trust me when I say you can tell. They stick out like sore thumbs and the only way to hide it would be to nerf your playing style to the point that you might as well had kept it stock anyway.

I tried running a topic keeping that up - but I lost it in the last forum shuffling. :o

Honestly, dude, we've been able to rely on people to just be grown ups about it, haha. Not really any way to enforce it...we have had people drop in the wrong mech by accidents a couple times...

...they volunteered to go to the garden and do the honorable thing. xD

Besides, if someone has to plop in to a SHS match with DHS to get some wins...?? They probably need all the validation they can get...

I'm sure it's a completely different game.
Will be a reason to pick up some wolverines, griffins or restock up on Hunchbacks.

Made a post about that and some other variants that are missing last week but folks were too hung up on my including some mechs with ecm.

Maybe I should tweet russ about it. :o

The big thing that makes this a lot of fun are the default armor values. This is a big part of differentiating the mechs. A HBK-4SP has something like 8 points of armor on each back section so you better be able to twist and other mechs like the TDR actually have more armor then the Victor. Playing stock is just plain out fun. A huge improvement over the boring meta fest that is MWO main. I have a hard time playing anything other than stock mechs now and wish more people were playing ALL the time. I don't want to have to keep dragging myself over to main to play :-(

On the path of the OP, I've been playing the Thunderbolt 5SS and it is great as long as you're careful with heat. The flamer alone has saved me 3 times at least already.

@russ_bullock Any chance of the return of the centurion CN9-AH to mwo?

@Barantor There is always a chance ! But don't hold your breath. We just need to have a conversation about it internally. Will try to.

So there is hope, told them that I would buy a YLW if they put it back in. For those that don't know the CN9-AH was actually in the game for a bit before the YLW came out as a hero.

The CN9-AH never really got a chance to shine.

It was removed from the game before manually controlled missile bay doors were added. So using its secondary weapons was a total PITA. I hope they re-add it so we can see how it works without that bad firing delay.

I had fun driving one in CB but it only had an AC/20 and a gigantic engine like a 350XL, because its secondary missile weapons were useless with that missile door delay.
