@ Rubidiy
Yes they do patch's at that time of the day, allowing for monitoring of the install and if there were any problems or issues that may need a 'Hotfix' right now. And giving themselves most of the day to address any problems.
But that does not mean that there can be a tournament consisting of 32 teams organized with 480 separate pilots standing by to play, on a Sunday or Monday let alone the following Friday. All normal work days for some people.
I mean really, in some cases, this tournament may require some players to take a sick day or more from work, just to be able to participate.
And in some cases that means clearing a full 12hr time window, till the match time is announced.

MWO Tournament Series (beta): First Engagement
We're excited to present our first in a series of team-based tournaments! We'll kick the First Engagement off with the new Launch Module system, which allows for groups of players to choose their opponents in a pre-match game lobby.
This tournament structure is single round elimination by team. Form a team of 15 Players (including 3 substitutes) and have your Team Captain submit an application for consideration. After we've received your team's application, each team member will be contacted via email with a request for more information.
Submit your application as soon as possible on May 9th at 1pm EDT for your best chance at getting your team into the running. A link to the Application Page will be posted at that time. Keep in mind that this is our first tournament of this style and we'll have more opportunities for teams that are not selected, to compete in future Trials. 32 Teams will be selected.
Match Scheduling:
In order to offer the most scheduling flexibility for participants, teams will coordinate their match times with their fellow team members and the opposing team in each elimination round (bracket). We require that Team Captains schedule all formal matches between noon-midnight EDT. Matches are booked as on a first come, first served basis within the two-day bracket window. In addition, applicants must ensure that all team members will be available for the semi-finals and finals on the evening of May 30, should the team advance. See the calendar for the available time slots in each bracket.
Participation Criteria:
Applications for participation are open to all players who created an account before May 7, 2014 and have a group of 15 players (including 3 substitutes). As per the scheduling procedures outlined above, players must be available to play subsequent matches as their team advances in each bracket. Team members can't be changed after the application period is over (application period ends 3pm EDT on May 12, 2014). Players with currently banned accounts, and those who have been disqualified from previous challenges or tournaments are not eligible to participate.
Additional notes for Team Captains:
We will provide all Team Captains with Premium Time to facilitate custom options in the Launch Module. Team Captains must coordinate with the members of their team, and the team captain of their opposing team in order to reserve their match time slot. Team Captains are responsible for taking a screenshot of the End of Round screen as additional proof of the match results (we'll verify results with server logs). Screenshots must be emailed to events@infinitegamepublishing.com within 6 hours of the match completion.
Team Captains will be responsible for ensuring that match options in the Launch Module are set to the bracket's required criteria (see Bracket information for game mode, map, and other specifications).
Bracket Information:
Matches are to be scheduled on the hour or half hour within the bracket times. In order to facilitate live-streaming and commentary, we will not allow the scheduling of two teams within the same half-hour slot.

As a participant and administrator for the Marik Civil War, a lot of this seems similar. I love it. That being said, the scheduling will become an issue wherein games are not played yet both sides will say they did their due diligence in making themselves available w/in the given times, yet not enough overlap existed. What is the resolution for this?

While its good thing overall, but tourments of this type will "isolate" a dominating (or near it) group of players - lone wolfes. To fix it, there should be free-for-all ELO-based life rating tab, with monthly awards for top-10 or so. Is it so hard to manage this?.. Looks so, an it looks like its even more harder then make "launch module" work as intended. As for me, whole ELO-system, that was anounced wery-wery long time ago, still uneffective and was added just to have an official reason to say "oh, look, its here!".
Same time, there is too low difference between 1st and 2nd places, especially for players who dont like/use Victors.
Ah, and ofc P.S.: looks like devs forgot about time zones - when its time to play in USA some of european countries have ther sleep after long and hard work

I'm questioning the lack of EU segment of this tournament.
10am PDT, not a tuesday. PGI's at work. it's 17pm GMT or 21pm MSK. What exactly cann't be done here??? This ammount of teams can be managed by coupla people without any software involved.

Team for scheduling between 18:00-21:00 EDT
...
3 PM PST? This seems sorta inconvenient for those of us with full time jobs on the West Coast USA to me.
I can't speak for others but I don't think my boss would approve of me leaving work a few hours early, multiple days in a row, to play video games.
Perhaps you folks at PGI might consider in the future when planning these things that you have customers on both coasts of North America?

Anyone else running on NA Comstar Teamspeak that wants to organize some matches and is signing up please hit up myself or one of our other members on that TS server. We'd love to practice and scrim before matches or help any comstar teams that would like scrim opponents this month let us know.
Thanks all. Great idea PGI.
