okokok i have come to terms with not being able to participate.

anyway, if possible if we can get all the tourney recordings from the individual groups consolidated in a thread in MWOmercs.com and somewhere open for all to view (in hale) it would be much appreciated.

all im saying is, i would love to watch the games but please make it easy to access.

Anyone to face off against the Blue Star Irregulars, keep in mind that we will be available for evening PST timed matches. Looking forward to the tournament! Work before play, as they say... we all have lives so we'll be hoping to obtain evening slots against other teams as we progress.

"Some portions of the site may be adjusted as we continue to tweak the interface.
This will be the first online tournament we've run for MWO, so please be patient with us as we learn the ropes, and explore what works and what doesn't.
We're trying out a variety of ways to organize the tournament, whether it's match rules, or how to schedule the individual matches. There'll be hitches along the way, but with your participation and your feedback, we'll continue to polish the tournament system. " You're welcome.

nice to see the first "real" tournament taking place in MWO. Sad to see, that it is only for the U.S. people. Next time, I'd suggest to run 2 versions for both EU/Ozeanic and Americans.

As for now, EU teams would have a hard time participating and for oceanics its quite impossible.

What about a team that fails to show up with 12 people? Will they be allowed to play? Will they be penalized tonnage for the missing player(s)?

What about handling any sort of crashes at match startup (yes, this still happens to people)? Will teams be allowed to call for a rematch before engagement or do we have to suck it up and deal with it?

What happens if teams cannot agree upon a time? Will one be assigned to them or will their be an arbitration to determine which team forfeits, or do both forfeit?

Lotta questions about the process, and those are just off the top of my head.

Still don't have any answer about this. That first one is really super important, as it makes a huge difference for scheduling and attempting to form a team. The threat of playing one or two men down is way less than the threat of forfeit because people had stuff come up.

How are they dealing with the teams that are skirting the 15 man / substitutes rule with alt accounts?

How is this an issue? They still need 12, and if they are using an alt account they don't have a backup in case someone can't make it.

Awesome effort but yeah as stated feel left out as an EU player :P. Would've been better to just schedule this stuff weekend only and shift back the timeframes to match up for more timezones. I'm sure everyone would be extremely suprised if it turned out PGI wasn't working weekends :P.

Either way, if push comes to shove, I'd definitely be up for organising the EU element. It can't be any harder than organising CS:GO or League events I'd hope :).

A single elimination bracket is a suboptimal system for public tournaments. A Swiss system is much better for the participants. In a single elimination bracket, half the teams will only get to play single match. Not a lot of fun for all the work that goes into setting up a team. A Swiss tournament guarantees a match for every team, in each round, and takes the same amount of rounds to derive at the same results. Not only is a Swiss system better for all the participants, It is also a better platform to promote MWO with too.

Lets say 1 in 8 of the teams is activity promoting their involvement in the tourney via social media. So at the start of the first round there would be 4-5 teams promoting MWO. After phase 1 you're down to half, 2 teams promoting. Which means the lead up to phase 2, sees half as much social media promotion and the finals see half of half. It's the exact opposite effect you want in terms of promotion. With a Swiss tournament, since there is no elimination, your promotion levels stay constant through out the event.

Swiss tourney are also better for the participants because after the first round teams are matched based on their previous performance. Thus the quality of matches tend to be better, as teams of equal skill tend to get pitted against each other.

An elimination tournament only really works if there is significant interest in the teams playing. In case of MWO where this interest in specific clans/teams does not exist, a elimination tournament is the worst format. There is an old saying that is true. A elimination tournament is for the fans; a Swiss tournament is for the players.

Not happy that you changed the timeslot halfway through the tourney. You must like lots of forfeits. Don't do that in the future. Keep one time range in one timezone.

Not happy that you scheduled some tourny dates on a major travel holiday. You must like lots of forfeits.

Not happy that you only allowed three alternates. You must like lots of forfeits. Whatever the team size there should be alternates of equal amount so a team of 8 would have 8 alternates.

Hmm if you can automate a beta tournament then you can automate a CW map and let players arrange fights over planets. Show a planetary map with owner status. "2D community warfare".

Oh did I say I predict forfeits?...

Big change is I would probably allow more alternates. That also helps with the time zone issue. A little.
EU timezones also a concern, as are people who work odd shifts, night shifts, late shifts. Et cetera. But that's not an easy fix like allowing at least 8 alternates. The important thing is just to keep people from playing on two teams.

Although obviously with say, 8 alternates, you could simultaneously be the best and worst team in the tournament.

Time slot was impossible to our players.
So no teams from Aseveljet.
Also notice of world wide competition was bit short.

Hopefully later on, there will be something for European players too.

We can expect to achieve the appearance of "Participant the first tournament," as a reward for all participants? And correspondingly, "Winner of the first tournament," to win the tournament for the team?

Skye Rangers Brigade, http://www.skye-rangers.net, are submitting 2 teams and I cannot imagine any of the groups from RHoD/MCW not considering entering a team. There will be enough teams to fill the 32 spots.

Best of luck PGI in getting this BETA to work and to getting an automated Tournament set up for all the players across the world that could not play in these restricted time slots (Shout out to my drop mates in F8L, TPL and 25th SR!)

If you are looking to join a team check out the House Recruitment and Barracks Subs. If there is a large enough move to teaming up and group play (we are in an era of 12man public group play), it will strengthen the case for more MWO Tournaments.

Good Hunting to all those teams that do get to participate!
