They are also ostentatious, gaudy, and cluttered. Nothing clan like in that. Functionality and minimal waste is the Clan way.

Have you ever read the novels which describe the ceremonial masks Clan councils wear or seen pictures of their dress uniforms?

And in absolutely no other situation do they dress. Ceremony is ceremony, but military emblems are clean and simplistic for a reason. It helps with clarity in the field. It helps with mass production. Less is more for a reason.

Besides which, again, it would fit the aesthetic the prior faction logos have set. The current set is not only a cluttered mess in game, but is a dramatic departure from the established look.

The fact that it is different than the Inner Sphere emblems set the feel apart and helps define a contrast between the two factions. Again, it gives the Clan sigils a more aggressive feel to them. These are just forums avatars - I expect any sort of Clan crest decals that would be released for identification on the battlefield would need to be cleaned up and not waving like they are on banners, quiaff?

Still, i think the new emblems do not give me the feelings i would expect from them.

From a warrior society, i would expect their emblems to be militaristic and spartan.

Besides, these new logos are bad enough in their own right: the wolf looks crazy, the katana is barely visible, the bear is sneezing and the jaguar is black and too cartoony.

Katana? You mean crowbar, which would have been hilarious if we were talking Snow Raven, not Jade Falcon.

This is how they should have been in the first place.

Went, voted, and am pleased as can be! The new old ones (wait, what?) look fantastic! Definitely better than what was offered before (in my not so humble opinion).

As I figured I would be, I am very torn on the vote. I like some of the modern ones, some of the classic ones, and wish I could mix and match features of all of them...

I voted for classic almost exclusively because the Clan Wolf classic version is SOOO much better than the modern one, and my CGB classic version has the better head angle, even though the rest of the modern CGB logo is better IMO.

I still think there should be a parade/stylized version for forum and cockpit items, and a spartan/simplified version for player icons and mech decals....

I figured even if I liked one of the newer ones, none of the traditional ones are bad. Better to do all traditionally than go radical at the detriment of others.

I actually disagree about some of the traditional ones, as CSJ and CJF look pretty bad to me, but I had to exclude them from my decision because I won't be part of either of those factions - unless absolutely required for some reason, of course.

Five hours in to the vote and it's looking like your new signature is a little redundant already Odanan. :(

I don't doubt it will happen. Obviously I'm sure people will have their complaints about the new-old ones, even I do, but they are more-or-less what we were wanting.

The funny thing is had they not changed their Modern ones so much they probably would have had more support.

Either way, I like how PGI responded. It might be because the Clan community is relatively small, or they felt bad that we were waiting for two years, or they honestly want to improve their player interaction (which, judging with how freely they tend to answer on twitter lately, I tend to believe now more then ever). Either way, the emblems are back in track.

Sadly, there is no way to prevent those who do not need to rep Clan tags from voting, but it has been holding at a solid 72/28 split more or less all day, in favor of the new-old emblems. Er, the traditional ones that is. I am more interested, now, in the total vote count. Keeping in mind that people on the forums only make up a small chunk of the player base of any game.

Edit:

Poll: Clan Logo Poll (1074 member(s) have cast votes)

As of this edit.

Agreed. It seems to me from the way PGI had been acting up to around Dec last year they had some kind of quota or something that they needed to reach. I honestly think they may have been on some kind of leash up to that point because ever since then they have been relatively productive in comparison. Also their community interaction has been a hell of a lot better.

As to commitment to the brand I have some news to share with the community that honestly we hadn’t decided yet on how or when we were going to announce it, so let me share it with you here now. On Nov 8th 2013 PGI and Microsoft finalized negotiations on an extension to PGI’s MechWarrior license. Whereas before our license ran out mid 2015 we are now ensured rights until mid-2018 and also if certain criteria is met will have until mid-2020 to continue to develop MechWarrior products including MWO. Needless to say this was something I had been working on for a very long time, Microsoft is very happy about how the MechWarrior brand is being re-invigorated with the new art work and gameplay advances. This extended license deal gives PGI many of the assurances we were looking for to justify continuing to spend large amounts of development funds on the game, we know we now have the runway to make the investment logical.

EDIT: Found that post I was referring to. I fattened up the particular part in question.

Maybe IGP finally realized that constantly sticking their hands in the development of the product they are trying to sell instead of leaving it in the hands of those who actually do the work was potentially hurting their bottom line? I find a lot of the decisions made up until December odd from a developer point of view, considering it is a work of art to them. They work day in and out for it, so why would they want to half ass anything?

Marketing, though, may have been overreaching their boundaries, resulting in pressure from above, leading to rushed or incomplete development, unrealistic target goals, and, accordingly, community backlash for the prior.

Coupled with the developers' at the time incomplete understanding of the CryEngine they were working with, errors were made. However, this recent trend is very, very positive. I would like to hope that they turn the public perception of them completely around and make this game successful as a result.
