Skills are tied to the 'torso' pod.
You will need to skill up 3 foxes, but you only need one set of arm/sidetorso/legs.
Buy the C arm first to get the ECM....yay.
Yeah you will need 3 bays if leveling simultaneously.

Does it count if I have mastered the Clans if I already have mastery for IS lights?

In other words, is mastery separate from IS and Clans or they are treated as the same category?

Heres one kit-fox build that I've been using successfully over the past several days.

The build uses 4 SRM4 artemis with 7 tons of ammo to sustain long matches should it survive long enough.

It is a good imitation of a lethal shotgun and works very efficiently at short range.

Armor pts have been allocated and balanced carefully to meet the ammo hungry requirements. While not entirely maxed out on armor, It's something you have to consider sacrificing should to follow this build. Feel free to tweak the armor to your liking.

Specific omnipods (besides the arms needed for the build) are irrelevant. However the 8 set bonus from equipping all identical omnipods of this variant is recommended for a slight Mech XP boost.

For consumable modules, I mainly use UAV for support and cool-shot 9 should the build somehow managed to overheat.

Radar depravation and for those who mastered the variant, target info gathering for mech modules.

Weapon modules is optional but a little extra range couldn't hurt as ghost heat is barely noticeable if you fire all 4 srms at once. Overheating is highly unlikely in small, short battles.

I enjoy playing this mech build because it is deceivingly powerful for a light mech. One real weakness to the build is if they lose both arms or ran out of ammo, they are pretty much out of the game. Plan your shots carefully and you should have no problem.

I used the 50 win prize money to buy my first clan mech today. I played one game with the standard S loadoaut, then tried the double UAC2 build, and then tried this and never looked back. I finished all the basic skills in a bit over an hour (granted, I had those 7 days of premium time active).

AMS is for wussies.

Those machine guns are worthless. Not worth the weight, or the slots.
We were up 9 to 4 so I found an atlas (after having LOST the 4 SRM6's I read about here) and dumped an entire ton into his left leg, from the back. I ran out of ammo and it turned yellow
I've got a number of matches over 500, and a few over 700
doesn't seem to matter really what I try (I will NEVER use MG's or SRM's again) acthis, LRMthat, various lasers, they all seem to do well.
ECM is mandatory, AMS is a waste, wrap your brain around its a fragile support medium and stick close its an earner.

Yeah when you're running the SRM24 build you have to work hard to protect your arms till you can get close, esp since you can't use ecm. When running this build, I'd just hide behind everyone else until the enemy's somewhat beat up and then run around throwing alphas.

That said, I agree ecm is a real life saver for the fox and I find I die much less with it. Your fatties will also thank you for it.

^ Yup, an amazing little mech but you MUST change your play style.
Initially I was very disappointed in it. So used to my cicada/raven methodology. Its neither a fast medium armored well enough, nor a fast light scout...it sucks in those roles. It IS a great support mech. Arguably one of the better ones in the light/medium class.
Hug a fattie- provide ECM, steal kills as needed, LOL
my KTD ratio isn't bad, .98/1.14/1.38 in the variants, with .98 being the prime I got first before I figured it out.
Almost 150 battles so far the win to loss ratio is 1.09, and climbing now that I got the various quirks under control.
Its not for everybody.
For me, its as crucial in pugs as my banshee can be- requires sacrifice, paying attention to the minmap, hustling to areas to provide ECM..cause if the heavies and assaults die, you're a pitbull chew toy last man standing

Why did you shoot his leg instead of his rear CT? How far away were you? If you are gonna hunt Whales, do it from 30-50m away.

SRM24 Fox is a surgeon, not a pit fighter.

You cant just run out trowin alphas. You will run out of ammo and likely lose an arm or two(or worse)

You have to view yourself as a punch in a boxer's combination:
In a three piece, the heavies are the jab and right cross, YOU are the unseen left hook to the jaw or liver.

In a five piece, the heavies and assaults are the jab, cross, hook, right body uppercut. YOU are the last left uppercut that either takes the head off, or pops it up for the right cross to smash it.

Again, keep a low profile the first half of the match, hide behind heavies, around corners, in the middle of the huddle, etc.
Later in the match when armor is missing and components are bare, you will crit like mad and chop off limbs.

Also know when to run. If you hunt Atlas and Whale, realize this: You alpha their rear CT(or rear RT) from 50m away, they start to turn around. You have a choice:

A. dance with him and finish him, he cannot turn fast enough is you are a decent pilot.

B. he has a friend nearby turn to you, you either put the Atlas between the two of you or
you run and hide. This is where the map kinda determines tactics. HPG or Canyons, jump over him or run behind a corner.
Caustic, well, not as much vertical cover there- choose wisely.

A. and B. both achieve something.
A. kills the Atlas - glory to you
B. keeps him from shooting your teammates- this doesnt help your personal stats but may help win the match. Hell, ive had Atlas turn to get me and my team shoots hit stripped back and kills him...this is a good thing.

As far as MG, you dont use them as a brawling weapon like Ac40, etc.
MG is for damage during cooldown, and for hitting bare components(the crits are random so they wont be consistent-may the RNG Gods bless you more than they curse you)

So try alternating lasers and MG, this at least keeps constant pressure on the target to twist and move for fear of a crit.

Also, dont brawl with IS lights unless you can kill them with one alpha, their speed makes you a fish in a barrel.

Maybe this helps or maybe Kitfox playstyle just isnt for you. For me i just cant do LRMs. The more i try them the more i suck with them.

I love the ECM + ER-ML in right arm and 2 ER-LL in left arm variant. Use it as a medium support sniper and you'll do fine.

The clan Kitfox is one of the first mechs I have really designed within the role warfare suite. This mech is not a brawler, its not a jenner, its not a spider.

When I play the kitfox, it is a pure support mech role and I have had groups thank me in game for the support the mech brings to them. There likely isn't a dire wolf out there that wouldn't enjoy having my kit nearby.

ECM is integral, as is the AMS (I carry 3 with enough ammo to make LRM boats cry). My weapons payload is minimal because I'm not meant to be fighting unless necessary. I sacrifice high damage scores or kills for the team. UAV is also critical, and I find a lot of players forget to jam/counter enemy ECM. Throw in a narc to make sure any LRM boats on my side have friends to play with and you can be a deadly support/cover mech.

I'm not providing the complete specifics on here, but I think its amusing that everyone is trying to build DPS focused Kit foxes. I see too many players build these light mechs with a big DPS focus to run around the map solo and off the radar to snipe or potshot. Most of those mechs being outside of Radar range anyway, defeating the purpose of carrying the ECM. ECM is a team utility.. covering 6 to 7 mechs at once instead of yourself can turn the tide of a fight especially since we know how many mechs pack in the LRM love.

Offensive weapons? Couple lasers, couple MGs. Play smart, let the big boys do the damage.. if I need to throw down, I'll drop in my Dire Wolf.

Prime right arm, one jj leg rest D variant

3 machine guns
one jumpjet
3 srm6 with Artemis

mini splatfox

first match I did was over 600 damage on the test server, great urban brawler, bad in alpine.

If you are willing to go without ecm that is

This is pretty much what i made as well after i got my kit foxes. I use this one the most and, yea, averaging 500 dmg a game with minimum 2 kils.
It's crazy how many people ignore you. I've had atlai LOOK AT ME. Then TURN and shoot my team mates. while I shot their back and kill them. Stupid stuff like that are great, but as a brawler light you really want to look out for who is going to ignore you, and exploit that. Or who is distracted - I've ran up for a black jack who was rocking our team mates, and I got as close as I could and then popped through their front line, alpha his CT, MG's blazing, alpha again, then my MG's took him out and I was outta there. He was definately sniping and zoomed in so I made sure to come up on his side

I like that thrill of hit and run. It's a fun build, and probably my favorite light mech.

Mostly agree but I find the AMS wasted tonnage when I preform my role as a support mech. ECM+UAV+ARTY covers support very well, toss in 3X ERML and an UAC5 and you have a support mech with teeth. I'm not looking for top damage but this build can pound it out at times, satisfying my blood lust as I sheppard the fatties.

I find the Kitfox, very underwhelming, tried many different builds and haven't had any success. Unless I play in a group then I narc em up, but for pugs a Kitfox is hard work and disappointing, give me an Ember any day.

ECM, ER PPC in one arm, 2 ER MPL in the other, as many heat sinks as you can jam in. I've had very good matches in this thing, even going above 5-600dmg (which for me is quite an achievement, considering my aim is poop).

I have great success with this build

[smurfy]http://mwo.smurfy-ne...49c23e2dbf875d4[/smurfy]

Its mainly focused on supporting your team assaults with your unbrella arm and it can become a very ferocious when brawling (got 562 dmg and 5 kills in a mach :) )

That build has way too many heat sinks. As a kit fox you shouldn't spend a lot of time staring at an enemy. You hit, run, hit again, so heat won't be a problem if you drop two or even three heat sinks to upgrade that SRM4 to SRM6 and add more ammo. You also have two separate half tones of the same ammo (AMS) That's just wasting a slot.

my build that I have alot of success with:

2 Clan med pulse lasers
1 Clan lrm 15 w 4 tons ammo
2 Clan MGs w 1 ton ammo
ecm
jump jets.

good for long range fire support. Keeps you away from the fight until you burn your lrm ammo. By that time the other guys are beat up and you CMPL and MGs can really way lay some mechs. easily 400 to 600 a match with this load out.

I enjoy the stock builds for the A (Gauss, 2x ER Medium) and B (UAC/10, ER Medium, ER Small, SRM-6). The A allows for some staying power even after running out of ammo and the B is suprisingly hard hitting against heavies and assault mechs. Both are great on heat management as well.
